play the newest version!

why does everyone seem to be playing 1.23 and not jj2 1.24 the secret files? 1.23 is almost impossible to find now but 1.24 TSF is practically free. and yet, nobody seems to have 1.24, what's with this?

Because The Secret Files is an add-on. It's not a new version. 1.20 is the original game. 1.23 is a patch for it. We just like to play the original game with the patch on it.

Compatibility. 1.24 players can join 1.23 servers, but 1.23 players can't join 1.24 servers.
You're right that it makes no sense, but lots of people would resist an attempted switch to TSF. (And it all depends on the time of day anyway.)

Thing is, TSF is still hard to get legally in America, because it was only released in Europe. America didn't get it, I bet G.O.D games (the publisher for the states) decided against it. That's the main reason people want to stick to version 1.23: it has a greater audience.

People do plenty of things legally, which makes me question how you got your copy of 1.24. But, it is hard to get in America, where a great majority of the Jazz 2 players are. Instead of you recommending people to get 1.24, why don't we recommend you getting 1.20/1/2/3?

I think it's weird that Epic stopped making newer versions than 1.23. Those add ons like 1.24 and 1.24X are just weird and unsupported on this community, And that Lori character was a nice found to see, but not nice to play with. So is Epic still going to make newer versions than 1.23 (not add ons)?

Do we have the source code for the game at this community? Or otherwise, can we get it?

TSF has it's own community (well, kinda) and only younger people (to be more specific, 9 years old kids) still play it. Sadly, those people barely host anything better than hotels, tests, buggy races or unfixed versions of DW.

In my opinion:
TSF > 1.23
But more skilled players play only at 1.23, so I am also there =)

A very good reason for me to play 1.23 and not TSF is because the 1.23 JCS is better. If you edit a level in TSF and save it, you have to do alot of work to get it back to 1.23. If you just never touch the TSF JCS, your level will stay 1.23, which is better in my opinion.

I have no idea....but I've come to the point of realiziing that whenever we figure out a good way to make 1.24 be able to join 1.23 servers easily and without glitches then there willl not be a need for 1.23 anymore, also people will hopefully stop complaining about trying to obtain 1.24 illegally. I've come to the conclusions that 1.24 is better than 1.23 as it can do everything 1.23 can do and more. I can just open up 1.23 and 1.24 levels in the v2.03 JCS, I didn't know this before.

But 1.23 has so many more single player levels than TSF.

True, when i was young i only played 1.20 and mostly TSF. I remember that i started a server to try out and there came around 10 players online at only one minute, and there also where around 10 servers online at one time! The most where 1.20 players in that time (1.23 wasn't released i thougt), i didn't knew TSF was allready released or not..

Let me just say that I agree that TSF is better, but I find a lot of players on TSF to be annoying. I sort of see 1.23 as a filtering device; all of the good players end up playing 1.23 more often than TSF. Maybe TSF will replace 1.23 one day, but I'm not convinced to completely switchover as of yet.

I wouldn't have a problem to switch over if i was an online gamer, but then everyone needs to have TSF and everyone needs to do the same.. So i think that can wait for years.

You know, the one reason I didn't buy TSF was because it was released after I bought the first version. And I'm too honest to get an illegal version. (I actually did own an illigal version but I didn't know it was illegal. I got rid of it.)

I just noticed this. Getting 1.23 is immensly easier then getting TSF. It took me forever to find TSF, but 1.23 I find in numerous shops and online stores. Sure, it has gone down over time, but 1.23 is more supported for that reason.

You need a program for that. And if you do join a 1.23 server with 1.24 TSF, you will appear as messed up sprites to all of the others with 1.23.

What I'm wondering is why there isn't a patch to upgrade to 1.24

I think at one time someone posted a (illegal, mind you) 1.23-1.24 patch on J2O. Once people realized it was illegal it was taken down.

Then they'll jsut make more money out of people that like it and (-)(-)(-)(-) over the majority of pennyless hardcore fans.
