Jazz 1 has christmas menu

Question: I have the original Jazz on CD, and playing it on my Windows 98 computer in dos. But whenever I launch it, it has the christmas themed menu. I would prefer if it just had the regular menu. Is there a way to change that?

Hi!

Christmas background in main menu appears only during winter months, in Jazz 1.3 (the most common CD release). There is no in-game or setup option for that.

Ideas:
  • Set the system time to July before running Jazz.
  • Find executables from one of the Jazz 1.2 releases and put them into your 1.3. None of those versions check the date. I don't know how the 1.2 executables get along with 1.3 files. Maybe you also have to put MENU.000 from the 1.2 into the 1.3 to avoid crashes in the episode selection, maybe you don't need to.
  • Hack the binary to disable the check. I doubt anybody has done this before with the date check; you would be on your own entirely.

Oh, thanks. If it's only temporary that's fine.
