keeping server up

Is anyone willing to help me keeping a server up?
I cant always host the Zeal Alpha server.
And plunk cant host the beta server so often.
So if anyone wanna join this "server team" they are welcome!
The servers are very popular .
A normal day (12 hours) there are 800 joinings. (not unique players)
And at weekends ALWAYS over 1000! And the players seems to appreciate this.

I dunno but.. If we can host good servers 24/7 then maybe something good can come out from it?

800 joinings? Is that counting the people who have to re-join 'cause they lag out?

I wish I could help, but nowadays, I use my PC for a lot of different things. When I get my laptop back, though, I can host on my laptop and do other things with my PC.

I will only serve under the name Zeal Omega Server, and as I said, when I get my laptop back, which should be in a week or so.

The idea is to have a server team that keeps atleast one server up all the time
Do you think theres a problem giving servers names like this?
And no.. they dont need to share same admins, levels and stuff.
But it might be good to do that.

Yes.. if hosted at same times then diffrent gametypes are good.
And this thing with admins I talked with you before.
Admins for alpha is for the moment: Grytolle, plunk, Jimbob, Hitch and Valmango

Hello All. Ive sortve been absent from the community lately cause my computer went on fritz and my schedule got way more busy.

I will try to be much more hosting active over the next while. I will mot likely host DOM and LRS. ive downloaded all DOM maps thatve been posted so far, along with a few of my own to throw in.

and if its okay i might change the server to something like Zeal Psi or Zeal Tau just for the heck of it.

I can try hosting a server that's on for a long time. I can't promise anything, but I'll try to keep a server (with either the name TMA or Brave New Worlds) up as long as possible. I have no admins or anything, but at least people would be able to play something.

Sorry. I don't know of any admins who are availible at all times, and I can't sit at my computer 24/7. However, I will try to get new levels and set a time limit. Thanks.

If your interested, you could become a beta tester for us and in turn have a Dedicated Server.

At Digiex, were experimenting with JJ2 running in a Dedicated Environment. The servers would be running in either London, UK or Canada connected directly into internet back bones giving a low ping. The catch of course is they are running without a window, so all commands have to be sent in game using JJ2+ and a Web Control Panel to Start/Stop the Server. But being beta, I'm sure there be a few bugs left to sort out which once found could most likely easily be solved. At the moment they are all running under Windows Server 2003, but we will also be testing some on our Linux boxes under Wine (allowing even greater control) soon.

I got my laptop back, finally, so the Zeal Omega Server should now be up a lot. For the time being, I will host a lot of Ground Force.

For those not familiar with the concept Ground Force, it is as follows:

- Getting in the game requires you to WallClimb, something only Spaz can do. Stand under the two middle blocks and press Jump and Down a lot.
- Once everyone is inside, wait for the game to be started (or if I'm not there, wait for a host-player to start the game. You can start the game by moving to the top-left corner, which will trigger a crate closing the door behind you. Then sidekick the crate to start.

Then the game itself will start. Basicly, not falling down in your main priority. Use crates and weapons to destroy the surroundings, so others will fall. If a player's score (visible by pressing F9) is higher than zero, he is probably out of the game. If only one player remains in the game, the host player may cycle the level by using the exit to his top-left.

Hey there

Zeal team got new server that i'll be hosting, it's "Zeal Gamma".
It won't be 24/7 server (as most of Zeal servers) but i'll try to keep it on as much as i'll can.
Main gametype is standart Battle, but I was thinking about Jail Break (but we need to find more JB levels).

I never had a crash at level cycle, only from DL errors. Perhaps problem is in your PC?
And if you use level-list shuffle it might couse it. Try turning it off.

Also, the Zeal Omega server now also hosts under Hamachi. For those who cannot join normally or CTO while doing so, you can now join the following channel on Hamachi:

Password: jazz2online

When you run Hamachi, you can log in to 'channels' or servers. When you do so, you create an artificial LAN link with the host. Then, you can use the IP given next to the host's name (in my server, for example, use the IP that's next to "Zeal Omega") and type that in the serverlist screen in JJ2. That way you should be able to join.

Also, Danny, maybe it'd be handy if you joined the zealserver channel. The pass is jazz2online, and there are already a lot of players plus Beta and Omega in that channel. Of course you cna join multiple channels, so you can also remain in your channel at all times.

You have to look at it like this: All servers that are on will be displayed in the serverlist screen. However, some of those are 'pinging' (bad host) and some will give you the 30-second "Connection Timed Out" error. That's where Hamachi is a handy tool. If the host of any server is ALSO in a Hamachi channel, you can share that connection. You can join servers of which you KNOW that the host is on Hamachi. Know who the host is and join their IP. For the Zeal servers, it's pretty much spot on. Just enter the IP that Hamachi shows you next to the name of the server you wanna join.

For example. You load Hamachi and log in to the "zealserver" channel. The password is jazz2online.

Now, a list will show up. Example:

Zeal Omega 5.56.543.123
Frost 5.56.345.789
Grandpa Sam 5.56.774.534
Zeal Alpha 5.56.543.132
Zeal Beta 5.56.543.321

Now if you wanna join, for example, the Zeal Alpha server, you will have to type the IP number that is right behind Zeal Alpha. Enter this number in the JJ2 online game screen and have some fun.

The other users that appear are players, logged in to the channel. Unless they are hosting something, entering their IP's will do nothing. Again, Hamachi is only effective if you know who is hosting. The Zeal Servers are hosting, most of the time, so picking one of those three will get you in a playing server.

I hope this is clear enough. If not, contact me with a private message or on MSN (jantjejansma (at) hotmail (dot) com)

I´m hosting a duel server: Zeal duels 10058
Its hosted on the same computer as alpha, so port 10058 is used.
You have to use this: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/dow...p?levelID=5253 to be able to join the server. Remember that you cant join this server with hamachi.

I host this a week or so to test it and see if it works.

The password is 4116
During the test period the adminpassword is: qwert

The point of all this is that there always will be a host for duels.
And with duels i mean firstly duels for JCD or the clan ladder.
Plus.ini and Banlist.txt are read only. So if settings are messed up, just use /loadsettings to fix it.
Joiners spectate is also on.
If the test period work out fine the levellist will be larger and a try to host 24/7 will be done.

Btw.. I have a new ISP. So ppl who had high ping before will probably have lower now.

Due to the popularity of the hamachi zealserver channel. A second channel is now in use.
So the networks to connect to zeal servers are:

Network: zealserver
pass: jazz2online

Network: zealserver2
pass: jazz2online
