Jazz1 editor beta

Lately I have been working on a still unnamed new Jazz1 editor. Within now and a couple of weeks I will be able to release a first beta version and I'm looking for people willing to try it.

Features worth mentioning:
  1. Animation sequence editor (no sprite editing)
  2. Special behavior editor (bees, and other enemies)
  3. Event editor with sprite preview
  4. Attack editor (change ammo sprites and shot speeds)
  5. Sound editor (change sound names and pitch)

Further the editor should provide most of the functionality also offered by the current version of JCS94.

Please contact me using PM or post in this thread.

I selected some beta testers from the people I know best. Here are some screenshots for the others who still are interested.

Looks awesome! Indeed like JCS94 (tried it once long ago), but a bit more JCS-ish by looking at the screens.

Looks good, and considerably better than J1CS [which is still useful to say the least].

I have some brief notes on the level and event formats, I have them here: http://levellord.toxicsheep.com/J1Estuff.zip They outline a few basic things, and may provide some valuable info for people making their own levels. (Like how boss behaviors work.) They'll do until we get some proper documentation.

When NS uploaded the editor, it prodded me into working on OpenJazz again. Now you go and post this.

When do I get to sleep!?

Not any time soon. She has more.

I sort of feel your pain though, much of that information could be incorporated into the editor.

Most of the Jazz forats were (Messily) added to the modding wiki by a friend of mine. They need 'professionalizing', but should be easy enough to understand, if they can be of any help.

Red face Does it work?

I've tried to open any (i.e. level0.000) original level using J1E, then I've saved it without any changes; when I've opened it under OpenJazz, the character looks like "being running towards left" (Animation #70); but he stands in place, after while the game has crashed. I didn't have this problem under JCS '94. Does anyone tried to make/change any level using J1E?

J1E is untested with OpenJazz. Please use DOSBox and try if the level works in the original game. If it still does not work, please send me the level and I will see if I can see any problems.

I'm also a bit undecided about whether this is a bug in J1E or in OpenJazz. I tend towards calling it a bug in J1E because the original levels do work in OpenJazz. So I will look into it for the next release.
