Special letters

Hey

Is there any way to chat with special characters in JJ2? I mean, that you can write special characters into chat and not using any other program (SaLLog). I think it would be useful to understand someone's chatting, and much more fun to chat. By the way, other players also support this idea.
All letters of the specific languages:

Spanish: ñ/Ñ
Polish: ą/Ą ć/Ć ę/Ę ł/Ł ń/Ń ó/Ó ś/Ś ź/Ź ż/Ż
German: ä/Ä ö/Ö ü/Ü ß
Hungarian: á/Á é/É (-)/Í ó/Ó ö/Ö ő/Ő ú/Ú ü/Ü ű/Ű
Romanian: ă/Ă â/Â î/Î ș/Ș ț/Ț
Turkish: ç/Ç ğ/Ğ ö/Ö ş/Ş ü/Ü
French, Italian: (-)/À â/ ä/Ä è/È é/É ê/Ê ë/Ë î/Î ï/Ï ô/Ô œ/Œ ù/Ù û/Û ü/Ü ÿ/Ÿ ç/Ç
Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish: å/Å ä/Ä ö/Ö æ/Æ ø/Ø
Icelandic: á/Á ð/Ð é/É (-)/Í ó/Ó ú/Ú ý/Ý þ/Þ æ/Æ ö/Ö
Czech, Slovak: á/Á č/Č ď /Ď é/É ě/Ě (-)/Í ň/Ň ó/Ó ř/Ř š/Š ť/Ť ú/Ú ů/Ů ý/Ý ž/Ž ä/Ä ĺ/Ĺ ľ/Ľ ô/Ô

It is possible that some letters are missing and there aren't all languages, but the most important here.

I think these characters can be implemeted in jj2 chat system.I think they allready are in jj2 but can't be activated to chat with them.

Neobeo made a program for this 100 year ago, but I lost it I tried to add it to jj2+ once, but unfortunately I suck I think all blur needs to do is to add the characters to a...charset-thing somewhere (term forgotten)

Implementing those to the chat would be pretty much the most useless addition one can come up with. There's nothing in the least bit rational that can't be achieved with normal characters.

But if someone truly wants to promote some joky bs over what actually could improve things, then be my guest.

Cyrillic could be sorta-achieved if you edited anims.j2a to change all of the letters. It would be tedious work though, and you'd wind up losing most of the latin alphabet in the process.

Being able to type special characters (like the first post suggests) would be a good idea though. A lot of the characters are already in JJ2, and almost every language that isn't english uses some of them (with some languages you can do fine without them, but in others they are pretty important). I'm not sure why St. Louis thinks this is such a bad idea, other than that he seems to think everything is a bad idea.

Hmm, I do mostly use English in jj2, but thinking about my own language for a moment I'm starting to like this idea. It shouldn't be too hard to implement something like this... assuming you're letting Windows handle the keyboard layout thing.

It's actually pretty important for Polish, even though Polish is still perfectly understandable without the characters.. Its just .. annoying without.

If ÅÄÖ will be added as well, I support this idea.

Here is a picture of all of the characters available: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/dow...hp?fileID=9102 (note that it is very tall, so it might be hard to see zoomed out).

It doesn't have everything (for example a lot of polish letters are missing), even though it has really weird letters like ð and þ which are hardly used by anything. Still, it would be possible to hack JJ2 to get it to recognise more keyboard inputs and at least be able to type what is available.

One interesting thing to note is there is a lot of empty space. Conceivably, you could probably add in a whole bunch of new characters to the sprite file and then tell JJ2 to display them properly, but there would be problems with doing that, and I don't know what would happen if two players had different versions (does the game give an error?)

I write in German or Swedish quite often, and it's really annoying to write ue oe ae aa instead of üöäå, so I definitely wouldn't call it a bad addition

Here's a fun fact: the LK Avalon edition of TSF features Polish characters (badly extrapolated from the originals).

So, you're planning to implement a feature that makes it possible for everyone to speak in 1337 all the time? Good God.
