Will Serbia win the next european basketball championship?

Well, next year's the eurobasket year, and Serbia's probably the favorite winner candidate again because of the Olympic silver medal.
The next eurobasket is also the last one that's being held every second year (after that one, the next will be 4 years after the previous one).
We were pretty unlucky the last few eurobaskets, buuuutagain, I think Serbia will win this time.
What do you think? We haven't won the trophy in ages, and when Spain won the last one even though we beat them in the group phase which they barely passed got me pretty ticked off.

So, the groups have been made. Serbia is in group D, along with Russia, Turkey, the United kingdom, Latvia and Belgium. I don't think my team's gonna have a problem beating the UK (no offence to the fans), though you never know. Same goes for Belgium, but I think they're a liitle better than the UK.

Russia is always a tough one, though they disapointed me with not passing the group phase last time. We easily beat them in the preparation matches last year. Latvia has a good team, but not as good as Turkey, IMO. Turkey wasn't much of a threat last year though.

If Serbia doesn't beat all of these teams, then I think it will be 4th in the group, at the very, very least. In that case, Serbia will probably play vs Spain in the 1/8 final, which would be preety bad. I'm completely sure it won't happen though, unless Spain gets to 4th place in group C.

Let's go WOOO

Yes. Three of 'em.

EDIT: Please don't vote for the 'no one wins' option unless you really have no knowledge about international basketball or if ya know how powerfull the terrorists have gotten.

Yeesh.. Poland wasn't even in the last world championship, while Serbia got to the finale. Same for the olympics. Yes, you got to the round of 16 a year ago, but Serbia got to the semi-final.

I can't wait to gloat in front of you guys next September.

Alright, the first match is vs Latvia. They're a pretty strong team, and have two players in the NBA. However...^.

I really don't like it when I have to use the search bar to look for the right thread.

So, coach Aleksandar Đorđević made a list of players he's counting on. At the end, he will pick twelve of them for the tournament.

Miloš Teodosić (CSKA Moscow)
Stefan Jović (Red Star Belgrade)
Nemanja Nedović (Unicaja)
Vasilije Micić (Žalgiris Kaunas)
Bogdan Bogdanović (Fenerbahçe)
Dragan Milosavljević (Alba Berlin)
Branko Lazić (Red Star Belgrade)
Marko Gudurić (Red Star Belgrade)
Nemanja Dangubić (Red Star Belgrade)
Nikola Kalinić (Fenerbahçe)
Marko Simonović (Red Star Belgrade)
Vladimir Lučić (Bayern Munich)
Milan Mačvan (Emporio Armani Milano)
Stefan Birčević (Partizan Belgrade)
Nemanja Bjelica (Minnesota Timberwolves)
Miroslav Raduljica (Jiangsu Dragons)
Ognjen Kuzmić (Red Star Belgrade)
Vladimir Štimac (Beşiktaş)
Boban Marjanović (Detroit Pistons)
Nikola Jokić (Denver Nuggets)
Nikola Milutinov (Olympiacos)
Ognjen Jaramaz (Mega Leks)
Ognjen Dobrić (Red Star Belgrade)
Aleksa Radanov (FMP Belgrade)
Dejan Davidovac (FMP Belgrade)

But sadly it seems Nikola Jokić won't be playing. On the other hand, I think Boban Marjanović can make it!

Besides, two years ago we went pretty far even without Jokić and Marjanović

In August I will copy-paste the final list of players here.

Well Jokić decided to skip this one. Sad, but he thinks it's for the best of his career and I fully support him. Let's hope he won't skip any more tournaments.

We can go on without Jokić this year, but I'm worried about Teodosić and Bogdanović, since they will go to the NBA next season so they might pause as well, which would be very bad for the team.

Oh and Jokić is out. Bjelica's isn't feeling better yet and a few players will be playing in the summer NBA leauge. Đorđević edited the list a bit, you can see the players he kept above.

...And now two more players got an injury at the training camp. I only hope it's not too serious.

Oh, and the tournament starts in a month.

Miroslav Raduljica won't be going either because of an injury.
How inconvenient. :/

I hardly even post here anymore lol.

Anyway Serbia beat Latvia in round one, 82:92.
Today Serbia will play with Russia, who beat Turkey. 73 : 76.
And it seems Belgium beat the UK, but they both scored a lot of points lol, like they are NBA teams or something. 103:90.

Russia just beat us, 75 : 72.

But hey, a lot more games to go. Besides, no one won this tournament without losing at least one game. It was fun to watch anyway.

It appears my calculations were wrong? Perhaps I forgot how much points Latvia scored versus Russia at that point. So, Serbia has the same number of points as Latvia, but is 2nd place because Latvia's overall score statistics are better.

Either way Serbia will be playing probably versus Montenegro or something in the elimination phase.

Serbia beat Belgium in the last group round. 54:74.

So even though Serbia lost that one game, at the end it finished 1st in the group round.
In the elimination phase, Serbia's opponent will be Hungary. The winner of that game will play versus the winner of the Finland versus Italy match.

Not home atm so might as well do a quick update and say Serbia beat Hungary and today they will be facing Italy in the quarterfinals.

Not long ago Serbia beat Italy 83:67!

In the semifinal Serbia will face Russia again! Let's see what will happen this time!

EDIT: Heh, just noticed I forgot to post the final list of players, But the tournament is almost over so I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

I'm admiting defeat! Slovenia won its very first basketball title and they really do deserve it. The team they had in this tournament was the best team they had in years. To add to it, plenty of other teams (including Serbia) were missing 3-7 players.

Serbia also did pretty good on this Eurobasket, since this was our worst team since, like, 2011 or so. Seven players from Rio are missing. You got to admit we made it pretty far.

But I won't use that as an excuse for losing. If you look at Slovenia's stats you'll see that they did not lose a single match on this tournament. Slovenija rocks! This is record breaking!

Bottom line, I lost this bet. However... All of you who said the tournament will be canceled did too! HAHA!

GG everyone! close this thread
