It might not be used a lot last months, because everyone noticed it's overused. I know some unfinished Odyssey levels though. And yes, you should finish a level. I'll post some screenshots of levels from Impressions soon.

Just a question: do the two layers on the background move automatically?

Overuse is a term thats relative to how many recent levels are uploaded with the set. If it was the hottest thing in 2004 that shouldn't put some weird random limit to people using the set now (Note- random example btw).
Unfinished levels should not mean (-), they're unfinished, some (-) can still come in and complain the set is overused and that they need to start over.

Man, will you ever stop answering everything I post? I mean, if I think Odyssey is overused that's a fact in my opinion. Although some people might disagree. Before Snooze made Galactic Warfare almost no-one used it, and right after it people started to use it. There might still be original things to do with the tileset though.

Here are screenshots of levels from Impressions so far.

So that means 2 levels to go. And with the speed that I work with lately, it shouldn't take too long to make those. And for the people who don't know what the tilesets are:

1: JJ1 Exoticus
2: Glacier
3: Wasteland
4: (-) + Hot
5: Inferno 2.0 Fire
6: BioCorridor 1.26

You might try giving the eyecandy less structure/symmetry in the non-technological levels.

No matter how strong your opinion is on something, it won't make it a fact.

I think he means that his opinion on oddysey is that it's overused and that his opinion on it is a fact.

And about that tileset-overusage discussion: This level will be part of a pack, so I don't see any reason why the tileset used in my level could possible be annoying if it was overused. One level in a pack of 6 or more doesn't set the tileset as the main one...

Well it's alright to use an overused tileset, but keep in mind that since there are so many levels using it you'll have to come up with something different or else rating points would be heavily decreased.

Rep can you link me to a review when some specifically said something along the lines of "I've seen this set WAY to many times! I'm subtracting some major points!"

I think that the real problem with tileset overusage is actually a lack of originality. I mean, if you've played a hundred levels with the Carrotus tileset and you make a level with that, about 95% of the time you'll end up subconciously taking ideas from the 100 levels before you. And if you make a new and original twist on an old tileset, it tends to have a certain "Wow!" factor. Unfortunantly, it quickly gets knocked off and becomes an overused aspect of levels.

Think about it this way: The biggest victim of overusing is any Epic tileset. However, one of our best rated levels, Termite Heaven features HUGELY original eye candy. Combined with solid gameplay, it becomes an instant winner.

An overused tileset can't break a level if it's of quality. Nuff said.

Only one (1) level will use that tileset!

If Chandie can use the castle and carrotus tilesets in a unique way that people enjoy, I don't see why no one else can.

DiamB isn't that hard. Try using something like Arkansas properly.

Well, I was trying to use Arkansas but I cancelled it.. it was too boring in my opinion. Now I'm trying JJ1 Holidaius for the seventh level from Impressions. And Sacrush: I have said it last time as well, but it looks very nice. And it's a very big level, that takes lots of time to make.

I sort of regret starting the whole bush placement standard for diamb. Well done and respect on the amount of work you spent on that sacrush, but honestly, you and everyone else should try alternative uses with that set already.

I actually did had another idea for the walls Eyecandy but the level was too much in progress to let all of that work go undone, I don't even know if it would look good too, that's why I kept the bushes.

Nevertheless, you get farther in life (and jcs) by trying new things.
