Well another Tileset ..I made it today some hours work.. Well look at it and rate good⊠Remember Luke i am ur father err wrong movie Update : 3d bg better ⊠sun with shades, another masked stone head , fog, crappy rain,4 eyecandy tiles in the cave, hurt evtns have a new animationâŠ
Rather cute theme even if the tileset is rather lacking in terms of versatility, especially when in comparison with Mystic Isle 2. The art style is decent overall but a bit inconsistent.
Und wieder malâŠyet another tileset from german tileset king mirrow. Its theme is the intact landscape of the world famous âEaster Islandsâ, which youâve probably seen somewhere (remember: those large stone heads staring at you etc.). But thatâs not the only thing the tileset shows on its about 350 tiles: there are lots of platform structures, vines, spikes, palms, rain and a ship and a sun for the horizon (plus some useful tiles like signs or shooting blocks, but they are simply copied from Epic tilesets). The mask seems to be well-made, too.
The author also included a very short example single player level in his pack: nothing spectacular, but it gives a nice demonstration of what you can do with âEaster Islandsâ.
Despite the fact i have some tileset where the nice little tracked Monkey Island theme by Stefan Uhlemann fits even better (namely my unreleased and therefore very infamous Monkey Island 2 tileset :-), itâs an okay choice. âBeautiful musicâ, as mirrow put it above, is a tad overdone here, though.
As a conclusion, iâd like to keep it short: âEaster Islandsâ is a very good looking tileset and definitely a MUST DOWNLOAD for all your Jazz2 fans and esspecially level builders out there (a low 7.5)!
Nice tileset
cool graphics
original idea
only a little small TIP:make it bigger
Itâs been a while since i have done any reviewing, been busy and stuffâŠ(yeah right).
But enough of that. The tileset is excellently drawn, easter island hasnât been thematized as far as I know. There are lots of useful tiles and the whole general purpose is shown well enough.
I particulary liked the ship on the background and the âThe curse of monkey islandâ music (thatâs why you get 0.2 extra mir :))
The example level was a bit on the small side though, but hey, there will be new levels soon by the looks of the set ;)
Agree with BlackDeath.Next cool tilest b Mirrow.I would give more but tilest is way too short :s you could fill empty places with ( for example ) more ground types or some ,,weirdââ eyecandy stuff.Example lvl is not very too eigher ;)
This is a very nice looking tileset, the ground tiles are well draw, so are the huge stone faces :) The ground looks good, the trees look good, could do with some more tiles, maybe some sandy tiles or something. But what needs to be alot better is the background, the warped background is only 6 colours, and it looks too, drawn. The who tileset looks fantastic, and the background just ruins it!
Also, you should add some shading to the sun, its only 1 colour! maybe shade it so it fades to a blue colour or something :) and when the sun goes down, there is always the reflection of it in the water, that would make it look better to, cause the ships look great :)
PS: That music is from Monkey Island 1 or 2 isnât it :)
I love this :P (I love many of cool tilesets :D)
Cool music (From Monkey Island, isn`t? :D)
Only one thing: too little lvl
Great! Taz.
I was wowed by this set since the moment I saw the first beta test. Itâs amazing. Ok, for a proper review. The tileset looks like a tropical island (hence the name) and has all the tiles you need to make one (including cool looking heads, heheh). Textures are very well drawn, as well as shading, you can see that itâs done professionally. The background looks beautiful! I love the ship, the water and the sun, itâs perfect. Also, as a trick for level makers, you can change the textured background colour (the colour it fades to) to 255 red and 96 green. Youâll have a beautiful reddish sunset :D
The music was a perfect choice. Well, okay, it was my choice, but when I saw the set I knew Monkey Island was gonna fit perfectly with it. Besides, itâll be a shame to waste it on a beach level, so I hope you like it ;)
â-===Edited===â-
I did NOT rate the music. I just made a comment on it. Lemme clear that up.
For those of you that complain that there arenât enough nature sets, this is definitley for you! And stop complaining (you know who you are).[This review has been edited by Disguise][This review has been edited by Disguise]
I like this tileset. When I fisrt saw the name I thought âeggs and chocolateâ but upon opening the tileset I realised it was a tileset of the actual ISLAND easter island. The graphics are not spectacular, but fits the theme well and gives it a nice stonehendgetypething feel. Itâd be good if it had another one of those head statues without a mask, so we can use it for shameless decoation, along with some more trees and rocks and stuff. Also missing is a lack of tiles to put in the foreground and background layers. Perhaps some whitish smoke-type tiles, cause I think they get a bit of fog around there. Perhaps some rain tiles, or a broken/fallen statue. There are no H-poles or V-poles, however, nor is there enough eyecandy in the cave bit. Perhaps adding some plants or holes in the cave wall ala carrotus. Good tileset though, maybe an update can get it an even higher score.
UPDATE: Okay, with the update Mirrow has rectified just about all of the aforementioned problems. The 2nd background has a very nice blue islandy type feel, and can be used for a textured background. The sun tiles look nice and with the correct maniplation of layers can make levels look, as Disguise said, like a sunset.
Mirrow as also added in extra eyecandy tiles, which is good and brings up the rating. ;)The rain and the fog can be used for background and foreground layers now, so levels donât look bare.
Oh by the way mirrow, I love the water stuff (that is water right?)That is too cool. Iâm gonna try an effect like that. ;)

Boring, old, keep it in line reviewâŠ.
BASIC BLOCKS/MASKING:
Theyâre almost all there. A few missing, but mostly there. The masking is good, except in a few places where it suffers.
1.7/2
LOW DETAIL LAYERS:
Originality rules here, but there could be a little more.
1.5/2
EYECANDY:
Everything looks great, except the shrubbery stuff, which could have used more work.
1.9(2)/2
ANIMATIONS/VARIETY TILES:
Great work here. And kind of original. But the spike animation in the cave doesnât work.
1.5/2
STANDARD TILES:
No H-poles, Hooks, Arrows (except the ones in the cave which only point up), Sucker Tubes (though I guess they wouldnât fit in, so this doesnât matter) and the only spikes are on the floor.
1/2
OVERALL:
Great tileset here, though it could use a little work.
EXTRA STUFF:
Nice rank, Aiko. I want one. :P
Disguise, never rate a tileset by the music used in the example level!
Taz, donât lower your rating because of the Example Levelâs length.
Person below this rating that I forgot the name of, donât rate the Example Level.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
WellâŠA very nice Tileset from Mirrow. It looks kinda âSimpleââŠmore like Microsoft Paint colours, but who cares.
The stuff youâve made in the Tileset are very Cool. Those Ooga-Booga statues look like the enemies in Mario Land :-) UhmâŠI think the Tileset is very good, alltough Itâs kinda small, but it has good masking. O yeah Iâve forget the example levelâŠthe level is very good. It uses all the tiles of the tileset. So you could rate it a 10.
But anyway a Download Recommendation.
And a 7.7 for the Tileset.
This is an excellent tilesetâŠi like the statues and the manu number of things u could do with this tileset.
Great choice of muzik! Monkey Island rulez!! This tileset is very original, and i love the bg layers! The boat that sails in the background is VERY good, and the sea works buetifly! This tileset deservs a 10, which it will get. The rain is sorta strange, but the extra points from the bg layers make up for it.
i was expecting it to look like easter. i was going like wha wheres the easter stuff. But the tileset is prity good
A well drawn tileset with great music.
