This level is made for one reason only: IT’S COOMADER DATS’ BIRTHDAY TODAY!!! (8 November). If I am not mistaken he is 19 years old now ;)
Anyways, Happy Birthday Mastah :D
The level was made with an edited Holiday Hare 98 tileset. Not much is changed, but you wikll see the difference the minute you run the level in high detail :) Yes I know it’s a birthday and this is a christmas set, btu I’ve never used this set befroe,, and since Datsy boy is experiencing some cold weather up there in the northerm hemisphere I figured I might rub it in a bit ;) I didn;t find any good birthday music, so I hope you’re happy with this one. Just so you know Datsy Boy, this is not a birthday present (I’m not that boring, yet), the present is that half-life stuff I talked to you about yesterday night (or should we say EARLY this morning). Anyways, enjoy the day, and remember you have this “lighty” to push around whenever you want :)
Oh, just another message for the birthday boy :)
Ryan just phoned me, and he says to tell you happy birthday and such (his nt is down so he couldn’t email you). You also wanted to know about staying at his house for a while. Well, it’s fine :) His parents said for about 4 days max or something. Anyways, enjoy the day :)
Whoa, now that I look at it, I have my average amount of typos there. It’s Commander Dats :)
gasp he remembered! or was that icq?.. :P anyways, tyvm.. nice thought… :) just a little confusing, the level itself.. but hey.. :)
About 500 Jazz2 fans out there and theres noone who wants to rate levels. Sigh. But hey, if nobody wants to review it, i will do.
This level is special because its actually a dedication to Cmdr. Dats for his birthday. Nice idea, but unfortunately i have no clue how to rate it. Besides, why the heck did you choose the HH98 tileset if Dats’ birthday is in early November? Bad idea.
The design (open and round) and the eyecandy are pretty good as always in Disguises levels. But alas there is this big "Happy Birthday" message in the background that was edited into the tileset (thats the only change btw) and makes the level pretty unplayble. Another minor flaw i found is that the author obviously had trouble with his palettes. In some places the background shines thru’ objects (e.g. trees) so that it seems like he accidentelly used the transparent color there.
Now, to mention something good: THE BACKGROUND MODULE IS TERRIFIC!!! Well, its from Finland and you know, those guys just rock! Listen to it! Incredible! 10 Minutes long!
But all in all, i am completely undecided. I’ll give low 6 points for now. Maybe i’ll change the rating once in a while :-)
A decent (though not great) level by Disguise. I feel the edit of the tileset didn’t fit (made the level unplayable as Aiko noted.) The layering was sorta awkward, and a few other minor bugs.
CONCLUSION: Eh, I dunno. You decide rather to download or not.
Btw, love the music, even though I used this waaay back on a level I released on UJ. ;-)
Why doesn’t the bridge collapse, that’d make it better..
It you are gonna put candy canes in the walls and floors, you might as well make them h-poles and v-poles..
Too many vines.. that weren’t grabable vines.. decreased visibility..
The R in the background doesn’t look quite right…
I’d say more, but I think this was not really intended to be a good level, just to be a level devoted to Cmdr Dats.
Hehe, sorry about the shining through areas. The thing is the color that is supposed ot be there was so similar to the transparent color that when i loaded the HH98 palette it changed the transparent color to that color (which made nothing transparent). Soooo, I replaced it with pure black and that made those other colors transparent. It was a real pain, but anyways, that’s the story :)
