It\\\‘s a conversion of diamondus from Jazz Jackrabbit 1.There are 3 Tilesets because I made Diamondus Evening And Diamindus Night.I made this diamondus conversion because I think that this level is a most representative for jj1 game and I didn\\\‘t saw on this site that someone already did this conversion. Thanks to Labratkid Now it\\\‘s 1.23! And now it\‘s upgraded, and 1.23 and even example levels are 1.23 :)
There is another JJ1 Diamondus, but it’s not on the site. Get it by downloading Evilmike’s Shine-o-Rific Land, or my JJ1: Warzone, etc. However, it’s not a very good conversion. All though this is TSF, which I’m very ticked off about, it’s a great conversion in any case. You should send the source image to someone who has 1.23
Okay, let’s begin. I’ll give a great tileset a long review compared to many of my tileset reviews. When I reinstalled Netscape, the font I’m typing with now suddenly looks cool, so I’ll enjoy this review much more. =P
Conversions – Very good
Ground? Check. Trees? Check. Waterfalls? Check. Clouds? Check. Sun? Check. Signs? Check. Caves? Check. Grass? Check. OMF Robots? Check. Animations? Check. Arrows? Check. Other stuff that I’m too lazy to list? Check. You have everything in the tileset in this set, or at least it appears that way. My only complaint, which I also find annoying in CelL’s conversions, is that the colors that was R0B0G0 (black) in Jazz Jackrabbit 1 is now Something like R20B20G20… Whatever it is, it’s noticable that it’s much lighter in comparison to JJ1’s black things. You should make the stuff that WAS black R8B8G0. I usually do that to make it look seemingly black. You can only notice differences between that and black if you zoom up really close, or fiddle with your contrast enough to make everything look stupid, anyway. Overall, you have everything you need in JJ1: Diamondus and more, which I’ll get to later. You have a classic JJ1 background there, and I’m not sure if it’s the original JJ1 Diamondus’ background, but, whatever it is, it looks great. There is one of those small turtles (non-animated, but I won’t take off any points since you don’t need it anyway), you have, ‘cold’ Jazz, and regular Jazz. There are also have Letni computers with NOKA’s logo on them. There are no flipped tiles to my knowledge, which is something I’m often tempted to do.
Pros: You have everything you need and more, no flipped tileset, etc.
Cons: The black stuff looks a little too light, like CelL’s conversions up to his Battleships v2.0.
Overall: Great job.
Animations : Okay / Good
The animations were confusing to assemble and they just don’t seem to work all that good. First of all, it seems that you, ‘cheated’ with the small waterfall thing. You only ripped one tile and you made your own animation out if it by making it scroll downward. It’s noticable, and looks very ugly. Once you figure out how to assemble the large waterfall animation correctly, it looks good. Let’s see what else… the arrow animations look good, too.
Pros: Nice large waterfall and arrow animations.
Cons: Ugly small waterfall animation; can be confusing to assemble
Overall: Good job, except for some things…
Masking – Good / Very good
The masking would be acceptable if you just made this tileset and were not trying to make it just like the real JJ1: Diamondus, but as a perfect score of 10.0 would mean that the tileset is… well, perfect, would mean that everything is masked the same. Let’s begin with the signs. In JJ1, the signs – which include RABBITS STINK, JAZZ JACKRABBIT, DEVAN SHELL, and CHECKPOINT signs were all masked. More appropriately, the whole left side was masked about 28 pixels to the right. The 4 or so pixels on the right are unmasked. This tileset unmasks all the signs, which can be good if you want it to be like that… as much as I think it’s better to have them like that, it’s not following the original tileset’s masking. Nextly, the masking on the vines is a bit too thick. You should usually go with one pixel high masking for them, according to Violet, who you should all look at as the most wonderful modern tileset masker. WORSHIP HIS MASKING SKILLS! NOW! Same with the hook’s masking. These two masking things are nothing big at all. The vines and hooks still work perfectly. I’m just telling you how Violet masks his vines and hooks. Interesting masking story. Nice of you to dedicate it to Violet =P His Orbitus conversion is coming out soon. Look for it. Okay, back on topic… There’s an invisible block, and that’s all ways good. I could babble on about the masking all day, but I don’t want to.
Pros: Great masking.
Cons: Incorrect sign masking.
Overall: GJ =D
Compatibility – Okay
Ah, the feared rating category many an author loses points on in my reviews. First of all, the poles don’t work, and for a nature tileset like this, that’s not good. The pinball events don’t work, but since it’s a nature tileset and all, that’s okay. Water works okay in 8bit. Since I don’t play in 8bit, I usually don’t take off many points if water doesn’t work. There is a working textured background that looks nice. The classic JJ1 type background also looks nice as a textured background.
Pros: Water works in 8bit for the most part, and there’s a textured background (two textured backgrounds, in a way).
Cons: Poles don’t work, pinball events don’t work, and water doesn’t work perfectly in 8bit.
Overall: You should ask a veteran tileset maker, ideally one of the better ones who still play and have poles in their tilesets for help putting in poles. If you can understand how to make a textured background, you can understand how to make poles.
Evening and night versions – Okay
Well, I was up to here in the review and I completely forgot you had those versions. All the good stuff I’ve seen so far made me think the evening and night versions would be great. Much to my (what’s the opposite word for delight? “Disgust,” sounds like I would hate the evening and night versions), I dislike the evening version, and think the night version is okay. The evening version looks all pink… and pink. It looks like it’s representing Lori Central or something. Whatever it is, I don’t like it. It’s too pink. And pink. And pink. The night version, however, I like. It tries to follow The JJ2 Diamondus Night’s colors – dark purple dirt, dark greenish blue grass, etc. I think it’s still a little too bright, though, especially the textured background.
Pros: Original…. neat.
Cons: Ugly and pink and pink and pink and ugly and pink evening version. The night version is too bright, too, IMO.
Overall: Original… neat. I don’t even know why I added an overall category after PROS and CONS, because it just sums up the pros and cons anyway, not saying anything new, and it often makes me go off topic like I’m doing now. ASHKAJSHKJASHKJHASKJAHSKAJHKJASH =D LAG PING
Before I spend the whole afternoon writing, I’m going to end the review here and leave out what I was going to say about the blocks Noka put in, the nice looking vines, and the nice looking hooks, and the nice looking V and HPOLES, and the nice looking (I forgot what I was going to put here! >().
Just download this. And build with this. And worship this.
MAKE A CRYSILIS (yes, I know, Cooba, I spelled that wrong, didn’t I?) CONVERSION NEXT, BECAUSE THE ONE ON THE SITE RIGHT NOW NEEDS WORK! REMEMBER THE ANIMATIONS AND STUFF PLZ =D
Good job. Here’s an 8.7.[This review has been edited by labratkid][This review has been edited by labratkid][This review has been edited by labratkid][This review has been edited by labratkid]
Wow, today in school, I was reading the grafitti on the desk, and it said NOKA on it![This review has been edited by labratkid]
This is no longer TSF! Download it now.[This review has been edited by labratkid]
Edit: IMHO, there should be a tiny little drop at the end of the ground tiles that turn into bridges. When you run at them and there is a bridge connected to them, you don’t touch the bridge immediately. You don’t touch it until a couple tiles later.[This review has been edited by labratkid]
Yay! 1.23 now!!!11
Time for the review:
Firstly, the tileset is now 1.23, though the levels are still TSF made, so they show up completely blank in my jcs. I can still review the tileset like this, but it’d have been better to review the tileset by looking at it and how it is used in the example level. Oh well, I should probably give NOKA more credit for turning it into 1.23 than critisizing the fact that the levels are TSF. Back to the review:
Tiles included: Hmmm..lets see. The pine trees, the weird oval looking trees, the tree trunks with the eyes, tree branches and tree stuff, cave bg, kill rabbit posters, lots of ground and wall, trigger tiles, green high grass, plants, the ground turning into bridge, diff. signs, arrows, mushrooms, statues, sparkles, custom made poles, custom made destruct blocks, hooks and suckers, flashing arrows, foreground gems, backround stuff, the sun and cloud, waterfall stuff, two useable bg’s, jazz jackrabbit figure, mini-turtle, NOKA sign inside a television, NOW APPROACHING DIAMONDUS poster (this looks cool, I like it) and Violet CLM rules, NOKA Sucks sign, and some other stuff I missed. This is the most completest Diamondus tileset I have.
Pros: Everything.
Cons: The waterfall anim coulda been better.
Color: Looks great, the night version looks ok (it could’ove been darker, but its fine the way it is for me) and the tileset is pleasing to look at. Can’t say much more.
Pros: Fairly large color variety, 3 different versions with different colors.
Cons: for some reason I had to narrow my eyes when looking at the evening version, but it could’ove been the lighting in the room, or just my eyes
Masking: Looks ok, some of the ground is masked a bit strangely (particulary the holes in the walls, but then when you think about it they’re masked like that for the better to avoid bugs and getting stuck. I like the fact that the wall the pole is coming out of is fully masked, so you won’t “miss” the pole or accidentally put a pole event on the tile that’s half wall half pole. The devan, text, rabbits stink, jazz and checkmark signs are unmasked. I though that the rabbits stink sign would be masked so you could destroy it (since there are two animations for it, one where its not destroyed, one where it is.) Some mask messages and stuff, well done.
Pros: Good masking, some precautions taken to avoid glitches
Cons: Nothing major.
Animations: Since the rabbit stink sign isn’t an animation in this set: Sparkles, large variety of destruct blocks (yes it is large), trigger blocks, arrows (and there are a lot of them), flashy things in bg, a lot of waterfalls, and stuff. Yes, there are a lot of animations, even most of them are small, the set gets a very high mark in this area.
Pros: lots of animations, destruct block variety
Cons: Most are small
Overall: Looking over the tileset I found it 9.2ish. Color is a plus, animations is a plus, tiles included is a very high plus, but some minor things could of been improved (like the waterfalls). Still great though, the best Diamondus conversion I have.
9.2.
dx dc, do not rate the example level. Kekeke. http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/moreinfo.php?levelid=3
:D
First some off-topic notes: you misspelled “Violet” and the font for the “approaching” text could have been better. I won’t take points for that though.
The tileset is good. In fact, I think it’s better than EvilMike’s conversion. It has everything his conversion had, plus lots of extra’s like a textrued background, text signs, JJ1 sprites, the “approaching” picture (yay!), destruct blocks, sucker tubes and well, lots more.
It basically has every tile that was in the JJ1 diamondus, I ddin’t check everything but at a glance I didn’t miss any tile. It also borrowed some tiles from the JJ2 Diamondus, like a mushroom and the arrows. It still has the JJ1 (animated) arrows though. The textured background looks quite nice and is useful, however the author didn’t forget to include a JJ1-like gradient background (that doesn’t have the same colors as in JJ1 anyway).
The layer 6+7 eyecandy is there too, however it doesn’t look allright at some places, probably something with the palette. The masking is pretty good, luckily the “rabbits stink” sign isn’t masked like in EvilMike’s conversion. I am still amazed by the amount of animations in this set, really everything that was animated in JJ1 can be animated with this tileset.
The author keeps telling you that he sucks while Violet rules, but I think he has created a JJ1 conversion that s at least as good as Violet’s conversion. You earned a 9.0 ;)
EDIT: I forgot to speak about the night/evening versions. Well, they are just as good as the “day version” ;)
EDIT 2:
JelZe, I still don’t get what your point is. I reviewed it with TSF because it didn’t work in 1.23. You mean I forgot to mention that in my review? In that case:
THIS IS TSF BAH
Wheres the Classic JJ1 Diam. Backround?
Day Tiles:
9.5/10 the origanal backround is missing
(Nice Anims!)
Night/Evening Tiles:
9.0/10 Very erm.. Diffrent..
Tile Overall: 9.2
I could go through a long, boring, process on why this is good. But I’ll give you my answer: WOW, NICE JOB. IT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD!
I’m glad this is TSF. TSF is all I have.
(If you don’t care about telling us why this is good, don’t give it a rating. Unsupported rating removal edit. ~Violet)[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
Nice tileset and you have use jj1 for make the lvl:P
(Unsupported rating removal edit. ~Violet)[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
Due to circumstances beyond my control I have to rewrite an entire review. ;.;
See, this tileset was TSF only (and Cazz, 1.23 sets work with TSF too!) but since it’s rebuilt in 1.23, allowing me to view it in its full glory… sob
Conversion Completeness:
Simply put: everything is there, every tile and animation you can find in JJ1 Diamondus. Even the Katana returns (One Must Fall 2097 cameo :p)
Added Extras:
A lot, as said in my previous review. I’ll just name the extra things you can find: JJ2 Diamondus arrows (no JJ2 mushroom, Flash), poles (both H and V-poles work, only vines and hooks need masks to work), destructable blocks (all types), sucker tubes, JJ2 style 3D background (which works in 8-bit, ditto for the JJ1-type sky), two JJ1 Jazz sprites, a poster with Devil Devan, a monitor with Noka on it and a Turtlette, Letni style banner (which reads: Violet CLM rules, Noka sucks. Vanity is ruling ;p), and a JJ1 style planet intro (Now approaching…) Phew
And there’s a evening and night version too (like Holidaius ., tho the night version is a bit too light) O, I seem to have missed an invisible masked block. O well :)
Masking:
Nothing wrong with the masking, even tho the signs aren’t masked unlike in JJ1 (who says they have to be, they’re just in the way anyway :p) And hidden messages in the masking is a fad nowadays: first Wisey, Violet and some others, and now him. It’s basicly a story about how rolled into Jazz Jackrabbit. :)
Verdict:
Violet, watch out! Noka has made a stunning first impression with this tileset conversion. Even though things didn’t start well (the set being TSF thing), he took the effort to convert it to 1.23, which scores very high with me. A definite download recommendation!

Wow!
This is the most complete JJ1 conversion I have ever seen!
First, the tileset has all the basic needed things for a conversion- the ground, the basic eyecandy, ect. Next, the tileset has some things I have seen in conversions before, but not in all conversions- the original JJ1 exit sign, jazz sprites, ect. Also, the tileset has some things I have never seen in a JJ1 conversion before- the ‘approaching’ screen comes to mind. The author even took the liberty of adding new tiles- sucker tubes, vines, ect., some of which actually look good! There even are two pallet-changed versions (an evening and night version). While I am not too fond of the effect, I do congradulate the author on the effort. After all that work, simply changing the tileset(s) from 1.24 to 1.23 must have been pretty easy! So, in conclusion, I have lost track of what I was saying, so I will just get it over with and give this a 9!
END REVIEW
This tileset is one of the best conversions I ever seen. And I see it’s also your first one.
No tiles are missing. Every single tile of original Diamondus has been included, which means also the weird bird god from Birdland (who comes back in JJ2 Labrat tileset… is there any entrance to the Labrat3.j2l in Labrat2.j2l? I think not, because I haven’t found it even in the JCS). Also, lots of new tiles have been added. Vines, hooks, sucker tubes, background and even a poster with Devan, which is quite cool, except for the font. Another nifty addition is the “Now approaching” screenie. Too bad you used some other font and didn’t make any stars…
The masks are just the way they should be. Maybe even better, because actually the “Rabbits stink” sign was masked in JJ1. The new stuff is also well masked.
There is also an evening and night verion. The evening is OK, but the night rather confuses me. I still can’t make up my mind, is it too light or not? Oh well, at least there are whole three versions of this tileset. This doesn’t occur often.
Now, overall: this is a very good conversion, near to perfect. And that’s how I rate it. You can beat Violet CLM really soon… and this can be sooner than I can think, since I just noticed another conversion of yours on J2O… gotta go downloading. And reviewing, of course. Because I love collecting JJ1 conversions!
Three JJ1 diamondus tilesets! Nice!! There’s day, evening and night versions and the colors are verrrry good!!! There are a few new tiles, two types of 8.layer background, one is the JJ1, on is the classical JJ2! (Except it there’s no difference from the JJ1 version so there’s not much to say) Bravo!

i love jj1 tilesets. and now that there is day night and evening, im even more amazed! this is exactly the same as the jj1 version. I think this is better than the jj2 diamondus, this also has example lvls. the sucker tubes are new and they really blend in with the tileset. i wish the deckstar tileset was here. i can just say “THIS IS EXCELLENT, DOWNLOAD IT OR ELSE!” ;D[This review has been edited by sabaspaz]

this is an ok conversion but it drifts too far from the origianal, plus, i got stuck in the wall loads of times on that tunnel bit
i really like the tilesets, if you’re a level designer, i strongly reccomend this. even if you’re not, this is worth a look.
i have made a small battle level using the daytime tileset because i love the tileset soooooo much, please DL and review

QUALITY
Well, well, well, an actually GOOD!! conversion of diamondus! I’m totally blown aways! I notice the exemplary quality of your set [the little screens are really cool], and the fact that you made three versions of the set. That;s really neat.
TILES
Aligned very well, it wasn’t that confusing. as for the style, you got the jazz1 tiles, and got them all. Good work.
BUGGYNESS

Tons of loads of it. You certainly didn’t make a boring set, and I congratulate you on that.
