Description

Introduction

TilesetPal is an application made for easing the process of color reduction from a 24-bit image to an 8-bit palettized image, particularly for Jazz Jackrabbit 2 tilesets. With proper use of TilesetPal, color reduction becomes a breeze, and yields much better results than using the Remap Colors feature in JCS.

Requirements

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

If you do not already have this, you can get it from Windows Update under the Recommended Updates, or you can download it from Microsoft here.

Installation

Unzip. TilesetPal.exe should be able to be run from anywhere, so long as the computer you’re running it on has the necessary requirements. All you need to do is run TilesetPal.exe.

It should be obvious, but read the Readme.

Files

These are the files that were included in this release:

  • ./TilesetPal.exe – The actual program.
  • ./ReadMe.txt – Important information and useful stuff you should read.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2.pal – The standard Jazz Jackrabbit 2 palette header
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 Carrotus pole.pal – Standard colors used for the Carrotus pole.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 Diamondus pole.pal – Standard colors used for the Diamondus pole.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 Jungle pole.pal – Standard colors used for the Jungle pole.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 pinball.pal – Standard colors used for all the pinball events.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 Psych pole.pal – Standard colors used for the psych pole.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 small tree.pal – Standard colors used for the small tree.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 snow.pal – Standart colors used for snow.
  • ./Palettes/Jazz2 water.pal – Standard colors used for water. (Also the range of the textured background.)

Dedication

TilesetPal is dedicated to the grand tileset maker and my internet twin Disguise for his 21st birthday.

Updates

Version 1.1:

Fixes:

  • Distorted 24-bit PCX loading bug.
  • Distortion and color counting problems with odd sized images.

Improvements:

  • Color reduction algorithm. Hopefully it’ll do a better job of picking colors.

Yay for the read me. :P. After reading it, and using the program to make a tileset for a current project i’m doing I must say this is a very useful program. I always had problems with making colour palette’s, because paint shop pro doens’t do a great job, and all the other palette programs out there don’t help very much. There are a few bugs which I’m sure Mono will fix, like when I loaded my image as a pcx it appeared kind of warped, but it worked fine as a bitmap. The colour reduction feature works wonderfully, and the palette merger is awesome. This is most probably the best tileset tool out there. Good job Monolith :D. I give this a 9.5/10

The included palettes are also very helpful, yay for them :).

As for larks comment about the microsoft .net framework. Everyone is going to have to download it eventually. It’s a great thing because it works cross platform, I already had it installed myself, and I should think most people will have it installed .. at least somewhat soon.

MSCOREE.DLL Is not way for my computer!!
(Unsupported rating (6) removal. I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to say, but it sounds as if you can’t find a .dll to get the program to work… if so, why did you rate it? ~Violet)

This utility file makes colour reduction as easy as drawing a cloud in MSPaint!! It has palettes for all palette events, which are easy to use and require no palette work to put them in you tileset palettes. An absolute must-have for 24-bit tileset makers!!

Hmm, i like this program BUT if i reduce colors, i get if i use this BMP for my tileset, if i play, the color black (BG color for tilesets) at EACH in BMP black colored fields…

Why this is not INVISIBLE?
What i do wrong?

HELP!
But else is this program VERY good! 9.2/10

EDIT: I found the problem! So i give now 10/10. Make EVERY TIME the first color of the Pallete BLACK!

Then it should work.

PS.: Sorry for my bad english, i’m germany and not very good in english…

This program is good, but not incerdible. To reduce colors, you can use “paint” :P.
But ithink, that program will by useful
