im around. tiein up my self around doom3 a little. i still suck at mapping but i know how gtkradiant works alittle better. but i still pefer quark.

you need to lurn celshading first! its not to hard to lurn in quark :) but you need to map in an other way afther that to make it look more cartoony

olsen. really the 1st thing i did when i jumped on board was. clean up the file structures, used stock quake animation and bot files on spazz and jazz. remodled part of spaz since piets originals were spaz head on jazz body with a spaz skin. and made them playable bots. from there ive primarly done coding. now ive kinda slowed down alittle on that cause im tryin to implement things that i dont have much idea on where to start. but ive been doin what i know how to do. on the side ive been doin other things. like a few tuts. run a few ideas around.

Mcdougal, you did a really good work on razz arena, and are still doing that! i am not angry of you, i think you guys rock! Hope the cel shading tut will be up soon! Writing this in school so i cant try the .pk3 tut. will try it when i am at dad´s place soon!

You guys ROCK! will try on a Trailer for razz, have vegas studio so i can make really cool effects! Also will try on a new background, hope you will like it!

I have one problem though, when i double tap the jump button with spaz, he doe´snt doublejump. Why?

i know your not. mad at me. im just sayin that when i got on board alota things got cleaned up, fixed, and updated.

the dbl jump/tap system does work its just a bit wonky, as said from the guy that let me use it. it is to. some times its all timming. ive been number changing on it makin it better. the numbers that were pluged in it originaly were to sensitive. makin it hard for even me to play.

i have a clip of Razz Arena showin off the seeker rocket but my file host denied me. Ill see about loadin it on piets server soon. took them 3 months to tell me no.

The double jump function only works for me if i ONLY use the core files, but with the other files i does´nt work. Dont care too much though!

I think you should go for a lighter style (aka JJ2) because that would fit better, but that's my opinion. Also, in that level screenshot, the texture is kinda repetitive.

i know the map is far from done. dont look at it that way. its a test map!
we have made a few spell corections they will be included in next release.
and there is a seeker and a Rocket Launcher.
we are doing some coding on how to get all weapons blaster just like in jj2.
and sure you all can do some voices for the models. but we keep the jazz voice as it is.

Tubelectric looks quite good in 3D. I'm playing a bit with an idea to make a JJ map for U1 and/or UT.

looks good but i think jazz must keep his big blue gun like he allways did.

Using the same gun all the time in FPP is wrong and confusing. Big guns claim respect, smaller ones are basic or light weapons. Besides, in FPP it's important to see what gun your enemy is carrying. That would be good in JJ2, too. Let's say you see somebody running straight at you with a Seeker Launcher. You're trapped in a corner. And then, all of sudden, he switches to Frostbiter because that previous gun was out of ammo...
Also, if all weapons fit into this one baby, why do we need to collect new Basters with different dot colors? I say - different weapons, new weapons, new working systems. Weapons in JJ2 are good for a platformer - but in FPP they need a lot of enhancement.

you are talkong about how the game looks now.
the collecting of blasters was only an early stage. in newer versions we will make jj2 style ammo to pickup. we like the idea of having only one gun per player. beleve me if we would make more guns it would have been more simple becouse that is what quake3 normaly has, (McDougal is coding his *** off to get the jj2 style weapon system working) :P

Q3a has a 16 weapon limit. im tryin ideas and methods of a work around. there are ways to boost it to a 32weapon cap but we would loose the powerup system.

The blaster would look better if instead of all those small finlike points it ended in a single point, kinda like a raindrop shape.

also preping for the q3a engin to be open source soon. meaning this will be a standalone game. i dont want the stucture to seem like a just copy and paste job with some code changes.

Fast fire has been in it for a while. though its only on castle1c.
1.1 you will see some weapon changes. and you are able to set the razz controlls in game.
boost, and Jazz's temp ability.
1.1 is really makin the mod come together more.

fast fire is a little diferent than in jj2/1 maybe we will change it

Jazz's grapple hook reminds me A LOT of Grapple Beam in Super Metroid. It's very fun. I enjoy acting like Spider-Rabbit, flying near below ceiling and bombing enemies with RFs or Bouncer. The booster is good when you're low on energy. At least on Battle1 3D, where there is a carrot. Weapons... I don't get what for the typical rocket launcher is. It's just 3Way with only one rocket. And you switch to it after respawn, which is quite annoying. Also, Spaz still doesn't have outlines like Jazz. And where the heck is Seeker ammo?

seeker ammo is not in any of the maps now :P we will include it soon

Most of my problem with the graphics of this game, other than the fact that most everything looks like it doesn't have any shading, is the textures on the walls. Most of them are hideously resized in some way, and there is no support for edges, so screenshots look like an engine test gone wrong. Get a lot more tile variety, make it more obvious that edges of walls are supposed to look like edges of walls, and tone down the resizing on the stained glass windows. It won't save the graphics, but they'll look better.

i hope this is the last time McDougal and me are telling you all that these map are not at all done they are just for testing. we are working on a game engine first modding quake3 so we will have a backbone to work on.
better maps will come way later

thats becouse the screenshots above are made in a non celshaded map.
McDougal has made a celshaded version of it but i dont have played it yet

No, it's the celshaded things that don't look shaded. The stuff you took from JJ2 has shading.

nope this game runs on the quake3 engine :P
Me and my team are modding quake3 so we have a whole new game.

and tnx but i allready knew i as a genious before did razz arena lol

quake3 engine is free!!! you can mod unltill you die editing the quake3 source. but you need quake3 to test your mod ;)

the ony thing that cost money is Quake3 itelf you need it as a base to play your own mod.

the engine (better call it source) of quake3 is online for free at idsoftware.com

the engin isnt open source yet. but when it comes open we can legaly rel Razz Arena as a standalone and freeware. till then u need to find a copy of Q3A. peit has disabled the cd-check. doesnt bother me non ive had the game for about 4 yrs now.

Cell shading is pretty good for this game. It gives it a more cartoonish look, which it's supposed to have.

Huh, I'm impressed. That doesn't look too bad. The spaceship confuses me, though, as it looks nothing like any of Jazz's spaceships, but kind of resembles a giant LFG-2000.

Quake 3 Source
I intended to release the Q3 source under the GPL by the end of 2004, but we had another large technology licensing deal go through, and it would be poor form to make the source public a few months after a company paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for full rights to it. True, being public under the GPL isn’t the same as having a royalty free license without the need to disclose the source, but I’m pretty sure there would be some hard feelings.

Previous source code releases were held up until the last commercial license of the technology shipped, but with the evolving nature of game engines today, it is a lot less clear. There are still bits of early Quake code in Half Life 2, and the remaining licensees of Q3 technology intend to continue their internal developments along similar lines, so there probably won’t be nearly as sharp a cutoff as before. I am still committed to making as much source public as I can, and I won’t wait until the titles from the latest deal have actually shipped, but it is still going to be a little while before I feel comfortable doing the release.

When it does we can compile our verry own game that can be downloaded at the Razz Arena website (don't look now it just wont work with a server that is unplugged)

thanks for the offer but i wont need it, i will have a new server up and running in a few weeks or less. untill then i wont finish any new stuff that would be ready for downloading.

ive been thinking of releasing what have done b4 my little vacation and slowly get back to work on this. I have formated my system so ive been reinstalling stuff as needed along the way. Q3A will make it back on. when it does ill retest the world/map/server change update i did. when it works the way id like it ill release it as a test self contained pak. which will prob make it in the the razz base when the servers come available. id like to make it if possable server contolled. as being that not all the servers will be workin at the same time, have the main server update the config files each log in session (if able). During the time i was Mia, i was hoping for some player models to apear and some maps. from last when i checked i only heard or seen one map (please let me be wrong ^.^). hope fully after piets server is back to normal and i can see what all has been goin on ill release the test stuff.

Note: I still have been unable to get the weapon system working the way as needed.
I have not seen the Q3A engin go open source yet..

take a look here its about QUake3 going opensource.

i just woke up today at 12:43 and i am ready to do some work on my new map.

oh and about the world/level system, i have a cool idea:
when the player is in a World looking for a level (arena) the camera will move above the player and zoom out a bit. (like Mario land) allso the player cant shoot other players, and if we allso disable the jump the ground should be flat.
maybe the - / + buttons can zoom in and out.

like ever this is just a tought.

That sounds great, apart from the no jumping thing. I mean, you could hide the entrances to the arenas better if players have to jump (for some secret arenas, like in Super Mario 64)

i was thinking about what kind of arena's there must be.

maybe the community can help us by giving us idea's like draw somthing (quick and dirty).

when the Core of the game is ready and we only need to make new (player) models, maps, sounds, and 2d art, we can start working on our verry own jazz2 world with arena's in it.

there is still a long way to go but we can do it.

when my new server is up and running. i can host a quake3 server again.
at the end of this year i am upgrading my connection to a 8Mbp/s download 1Mbp/s upload so it will be faster.

in this server i will test new arena's and the arena selection world (maybe more than one world in the same map).

when everything is done ( :):):):):):):) ) we need a lot of servers to get it all running:

server #1: The Jazz2 World.
server #2: Arena1
server #3: Arena2
server #4: Arena3
server #5: Arena4
etc...

of cource we can host more than one server one a machine.

like you can step into a rocket and then you will connect to the other server that hosts that planet. or even cooler if you go into a rocket you will load a sub level where you can choose a planet. (lik you are in a space ship pressing buttons)

does somone know how jazz's space ship looks like? (does he even has one)

Jazz's spaceship was destroyed while landing on Turtemple, as we read in the manual....I wouldn't know, since my copy of Jazz2 come with the CD version of Jazz1, and that's how I now have it. But, if you intend to use that as a mini-level for stage selection, you'd probably want to make it bigger. Or, allow control of it to the planets and such.

Or, allow people to battle in the ship...

but look at his ship. its perfect for a crasch somewhere in a level/arena. maybe with some ammo in it.

There is Jazz01 on his ship. I can make a bigger one an call it Jazz02.
maybe somone has some idea's how it should look.

I don't mean to make this into a debate, though that is logical, but Jazz got the location of Eva through use of the battleship's computer, after defeating the dark jazz. So, at the moment, it would seem logical to me, that they're still somewhere.

(maybe with some trigger/switch thats in the craft.)

next there are large space ships where you can fly to all planets.

i will draw the space ships to get a feeling :P

You're neglecting the fact that there are several versions of JJ1.
Jazz Jackrabbit (1-6, ends with kiss)
Jazz Jackrabbit CD (1-C/Z)
Jazz Pack 1 (1-3)
Jazz Pack 2 (4-6)

So not everything is going to end with the kiss. The majority of people probably have CD, in fact.

i was wondering if the community can provide me with a top 5 list of jazz1 planets so we can think about making a start on the first couple of maps/arena's.

its a long time ago someone new joined our crew. basicly its just me and McDougal and some people on the razzA forum.

who could help us with:

making good looking maps for worlds/arena's
(i mean the final maps that we are gonna use in the game, not some test map like the crap i made)

Making models,
for now we need 2 new models:
The Jazz01 spaceship and some bigger spaceship (lets say jazz02) in the same style.

By modeling the tileset.
Does the tileset have trees? Model 3d trees that look simmilar.
Does the Tileset have rabbit statues and marble faces/tounges? Then model those.
Does the tileset have pipes? Model those pipes.

How so? Jazz 1's tiles are less complex, and theres not alot that should be extremely hard to model. The Jazz 2 tilesets have much more complex tiles such as Huts, Gargoyles, Lab Tubes, Caslte slides, Dancing mushrooms and flowers, large carrots, etc.
The most complex thing I can think of off the top of my head is probally the stautes on Marbelra or the Glassed Mutated plants on Fanolint.

Looking at the two versions of Diamondus(jj1, and jj2) It's mostly redone tiles, tiles added for the engine, and a few new animated tiles. Therefore, you would have to add in new things, or miracosly find JJ2-styled versions of all the JJ1 planets.

Its a game based upon both versions.

The new Jazz model shown on the fornt page is awesome. Can't say much about battle1 though, as it's hard to judge the gameplay of 3d maps by screenshots. It looks a little too bright, though.

i am realy sorry to inform you that the site i down again.
my servers harddrive is a little broke but i am recovering as we speak.

its a 80Gig harddrive with NTFS, becouse its NTFS instaid of FAT or FAT32 the full directory structure will be intact (thats what they told me).

i have good hope everyting will be back to normal soon.
i have seen a lot of files in ./www/baggers/ and ./www/razz/.

as you can read in the FAQ you need quake3.
razz.exe is only a luncher that connects to the beta server for playing online.

You seem to have register_globals set to ON (page.php?x=y will set $x to y, not $_GET['x']). THis is a really big security threat, I suggest putting it off.

ive been watching. few days after Full Open source or Q3A becomes Freeware there will be a release for all. i could do all the prep work now, but i wana take a look at how the engin does a few things see what i can tweak alittle in that area. For main spawn area map ive been workin on it. but since quark or its compilers been acting funny been slow. but heres a few screen shots. some i did not to long ago.

it will celshade the models automaticy, i have made some screenshots of the Bones model:

I like the center map thing. It highly reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas movie. In particular the scene where Jack finds the doors to the other holiday worlds.

The Quake3 Source are all the codes the programmers of ID Software used to compile Quake3. It does NOT include Video's textures sounds and skins.

so you can make Quake3 with it but it wont look good cos you dont have the textures etc.

This allso means that Razz Arena needs a lot of new media.
