WE CANNOT ADD NEW CHARACTERS, ENEMIES, BOSSES, OR SOUNDS TO THE GAME
That is all.

I seem to recall someone asking if they could add their own explosion sound or some such thing. Now I'll have to spend a long time searching for it.

The most normal reason to all those sourcecode questions has to do with the Openjazz sourcecode being released...

Nonsense. The entire source code discussion is about retreiving the legal rights. I've not seen mentions of 'stealing' the source code, and that is not what people talk about when they talk about retreiving the source.

This information is easy enough to be simply added to the JJ2 FAQ, which is already stickied. Make it more clear that we do not have the source code rather than just saying 'We need the source code to create 1.25'.

I thought that way when I wrote the first BrainFart comics. I have learned since then, but as I set a character, I had to make him change. That's why Derby is now a nice, happy hippo in the BrainFart comics.

That's reason enough not to support that comic.
And to plug in #jcstalk. #jcstalk on Quakenet.org. The one stop spot for advice and information about JCS and how to create your own tile enemies and or bosses. Remember, #jcstalk. If you can't get help there, you're hated among the superiors of the community, and never will.

He has a certain reputation. Usually all I see of him is his tracks from modding posts. Rarely do we see an actual post from him.
To be fair, he does do a good job at keeping the forums in line.

Why don't we just buy the source code. For a reasonable amount they'd probably give it off. If people were willing to donate and we could agree something with them, it should be possible to obtain it legally, and JJ2 would come to live again.

Source code release = more exploits created. ;o
This is a rabbit game, not the NSA's cryptography analysis engine.
Besides, we already have exploits. More exploits would just render different ways to do the same thing. The benefits far outweigh the downsides.

If I remember correctly, an Astounding 0 people donated to the Lori Central fund, and that was only thrity bucks. Therefore the prediction of people willing to donate comes to about 2 people donating a maximum of ten bucks each(These are numbers I pulled out of thin air though, so its more of a guess than a prediction)
Plus, theres also the problem that right now Epic has no idea where it is. it could be on a few dusty floppies somewhere hidden in the janitorial closet, no one knows.

I'm not sure who the 'bl' you mention is, Jamster, and I very much doubt he would release the source, or that he actually has it.
The source code still exists, that's easy to confirm, and details were posted in the (private) 1.25 council forum. I'm not sure which details would be fit for release but the only important one is that the source code exists, and is easily retreived once we have the rights to it (which is the actual problem, not finding it). We're working on that, too. Don't worry about where it is.
UNKNOWNFILE
Jan 20, 2006, 09:26 AM
If you want the source code so bad then just hack the friggin computer and steal it. Besides, would 1.25 become widespread anyways?
FQuist
Jan 20, 2006, 09:37 AM
Um, if it was illegal and stolen, it wouldn't become widespread, no. That would also really help improve the community's reputation, future chances of any games, and the existance of this site, which would probably be killed by its host.

For the same reason the Area 51 is hidden.
Sonyk
Feb 8, 2006, 02:45 AM
Nothing? Area 51 really isn't that hidden, it's an Air Force base. You can see it with satellite tools like Google Earth.
Besides private forums are probably just to keep information on the board or actions of the administration hidden from public, where people may see it and protest for no reason, which seems to be a common thing on this board.
