hehhehheh..... I know where to get Jazz1 episodes 1 through 9, but it requires special authorization, and I'm not telling you the password and username, because I'll get kicked off for warez... but it IS supported by godgames, they gave me that address, name and pass, so it might not be illegal, I'll tell you if a mod says it's ok.

Heh, a lot of the games on that site are legal to download. I am not sure about Jazz1, but I know that a lot of them, including OMF are now freeware.

Do i understand you right, JelZe? JJ1 can be legally downloaded from now on??
I think that site is just some ordinary "Abandonware" site. My personal opinion on Abandonware is not of interest here, but i don't know what Epic thinks about it...i doubt they like it.

Epic Games is no longer selling Jazz Jackrabbit 1, AFAIK. Also, as JelZe said, do you think the OMF board supports warez?

Abandonware is illegal.
If this is legal I don't know. Someone ask godgames or epic, because I'm going to delete it otherwise.

Doesn't games get as freeware after 5 years of don't being sell and without any technical support?
Aiko
Sep 6, 2001, 12:30 PM
Heh, Alberto, thats a bit naive :-)
Of course, it doesn't get legal on the day a game is five year old. It's only the inofficially rule most AW sites use.

I read on the Epic Games website that they are no longer selling Jazz Jackrabbit 1. They most probably would say that they aren't selling JJ1 because it's already been said in their website, unless, of course, if it was hacked when I saw it.

Bah! 6 episodes suck.. the 9 rule.
Alberto
Sep 7, 2001, 04:31 AM
My cousin bought the 6 Episode one and then when he got bored of the game, he gave them to me, if I never saw that game then I wouldn't be here never.
Then someone sent me the 9 Episodes one, thank you.

Technically, I think it's legal for me to d/l JJ1... Since it was supposed to come with JJ2 and didn't.
But I could be wrong. Don't quote me http://jazz2.nagcentral.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

It's legal then Talec, you prolly received a sheet of paper that came in the box giving you an username and a password, if it didn't and u can't get the game then ask me and I'll give it to you.

Oh, I guess it's just right for the link to be removed then if someone, even if it isn't Epic, who is selling the game.

Hahaaaaaaa, getting jazz 1 1 - 9 is easier than everyone here thinks, but not through the sites you use there.
Allright now abandonware is NOT, I repeat NOT illegal if the game designers make the game freeware, this usually happens when they stop selling, which is like 4-6 years after the game is released most of the time.
When and if the game becomes abandonware aka freeware but sometimes confused with games that actually don't qualify for abandonwareness, it is free to get from where-ever you can and want, provided the game is in no way altered and is still in its original state.
So basically Fquist, you were too early in removing once more.
O and the site that gives jazz 1 cd for free... yes... well it's down right now. If you don't have the password that is >: )
You could always try an abandonware network or webring or www.theunderdogs.org (http://www.theunderdogs.org) to get to one. (That site is the biggest collection of abandonware to download at good speed and without endless links).
Good luck.

I've got the solution. We'll ask Arjan if it's free or not. And I now already know it's not.

Wrong, Fear. And even if it's true what you say, which I doubt, it DOES still get sold.
"Allright now abandonware is NOT, I repeat NOT illegal if the game designers make the game freeware, this usually happens when they stop selling, which is like 4-6 years after the game is released most of the time. "
So that Bach is dead means we can get his music for free?
No. "The 5-years and no selling means it's freeware/abandonware" theory is NOT true. Even then, the developers stay the owners of the rights about the game/program. It's theirs to decide if it is freeware or not, not yours.

B. Why Abandonware is technically software piracy
According to U.S. Law and International Treaties, a copyright belongs to the author of a software product for 50 years beyond the life of the author or 75 years after the copyright date if the work is done by a corporation. Before that time expires, nobody (except the author) has the right to copy that piece of software.
A corporation is defined as an independent entity (like a person) and as an independent entity, it can hold a copyright (like a person). (However, it can't vote like a person)
Most of the software copyrights out there are held by corporations. (Microsoft, Sierra, Microprose, etc.) Therefore, nobody has the right to copy a software product held by the corporation for 75 years after the copyright date.
If a person is caught copying a piece of software that has a copyright that he/she does not own, then he/she is found in violation of copyright law and is subject to civil and criminal penalties. The Software Publishing Association (SPA) is an organization whose goal is to find and catch people who violate software copyrights.

He never said that waiting would make it freeware, he just said that *usually* the company no longer wants it, and deems it freeware.
