We might even have a nice game at December 2009!

2009, indeed...
Too bad that the game still isn't playable because due to many improvements in the utilities one could be able to host it 24/7 completely secure. Maybe because you guys never actually play JJ2 online that you haven't noticed.

Thats another 2 months..

wadledee
Mar 19, 2009, 05:07 AM
Yes yes, another three months now :P

You know what, I'll have a chat with Falcury. Maybe we can do another round in a few days, seeing all of you waiting for it, giving up hope it's still alive etc.

Falcury has added a lot quests again, and the new way of playing (offline) is working perfectly now. It might be good enough for you all to try ;-)

Oh and btw, last time we spoke about the deadline, we agreed on May this year :P So keep up the good work, Falc!

After a long break, we are back and on track to release a playable (albeit still unfinished) version of Karrot Shire, soon. A short reminder to ourselves on why we kept you waiting:
1. Hosting online all the time is too cumbersome, so we wanted a ‘no fuss’ offline solution. In that way, online multiplayer is purely optional.
2. There were many structural and gameplay elements of the game that we wanted changed or added, and we wanted to take our time to get those things right.
So, there you have it, that is what we did.

We are looking for beta testers at the moment. If you are willing to invest some of your time into making this project better, please email us at wadlcury at gmail dot com.

I'm also updating the opening post now.

How will multiplayer work without a server? Will the KS Utility allow you to host the KS world?

The best I could think of would be if the utility somehow checks if someone is hosting, and starts up a server itself if no-one is. Then you'll have a KS server online whenever a player wants to play KS online, without ever having it hosted centralized.

wadledee
Jun 18, 2009, 02:09 PM
As Falcury noted, multiplayer is purely optional now.

As soon as you start the utility, you are prompted to start playing (offline modus).

However, if you'd like to play with other people, simply set up a server like you'd do as allways, I'm sure it will be filled in a couple of minutes :P

And as far as I know it's pretty difficult to program the utility in such a way that it will check for online servers, but I'll let Falcury decide about that ;-)

Jerrythabest
Jun 19, 2009, 01:07 AM
Well I think you could somehow make it possible to identify the KS server on the GiP List (with a specific server name perhaps, or some weird character in the server name that JJ2 doesn't support). All the utility then has to do to check if someone's hosting is to load the GiP List and look for it.

But of course you could also do identification on a 'deeper level' (if that is easier or more secure) by requesting the game data directly from the servers on the server list just as some GiP scripts do.

Or.. I can host a KS server 24/7.
But not on the default port.

By the way, I can tell you all that the game will feature my own hand-drawn art :D

If you can't wait to see all of the drawings I've made (till now), just check my DeviantArt!

Well, to be honest, yes. But I didn't bump the thread for that, you kinda get used to it after being a member of this community for a while :p

Well, in my opinion, the whole Jazz community seems to shrink.... Too bad!

Yar! Quickly, send an email to wadlcury at gmail dot com , and you'll be playing the Karrot Shire : beta in a matter of seconds! :D

Honestly, the betatesters we have now, it took em 3 hours to only complete all available quests... Need something to spend time on? ^^

How the flying saucers do you save? I ran around the hospital, searching through the utility like no other but found nothing... So that's 30 minutes of progress down the drain. :D

wadledee
Jul 27, 2009, 04:42 AM
Lol =P

You need to complete the second Storyline-quest; "Time To Heal".

After you completed that quest, simply enter the hospital and look for your Action Tab. You can save there now.

Yeah, I know. I did just that.. :P

This is the part that doesn't work. My action tab is as empty as it is on open soil whenever I enter the hospital. It just won't work. :)

I was wondering if you could check to see if Super Carrot Magic quest is working. Ive spent close to 10 hours as its the only open quest i have at the moment, and i worked with a few other people on it. I have even gotten her the carrot and i believe ive got the map. I was wondering if this was a problem or just my incompetance as i am missing some crucial step.

Great fun, this is. I could even save yesterday! I love that you can just keep on playing your own savegame offline/online. This is all just awesome. =)

I have updated the level for Karrot Shire a bit. Here is the changelog.

The most recent Karrot Shire.j2l file can allways be found on http://sites.google.com/site/karrotshire/

edit: dang, because the level is getting too big for JJ2 to handle, the 'Freeze Enemies' in the Rabbit Cannon's wont respawn. So here is a second update.

Changelog Karrot Shire.j2l - V.1.02

Fixes

- All Rabbit Cannon's in the level now have a backup elevator next to it.

-------------------
Changelog Karrot Shire.j2l - V.1.01

ADDED

-A 3-leveled TEST-minigame can be found in the Games Hall, Carvan City.

-You can now DUEL each other in The Dome, Duox City. It has not yet been integrated in the Utility, so you'll just have to countdown yourselves.

-The last 8 secrets have been added in the level. However, you can't unlock them untill the next Karrot Shire Utility update. Still, do look for them, so you have an easier time finding them after the Utility update. One might even reveal a yet-to-release area! =o

CHANGES

-Changed the collapse-tiles in difficult-to-see tiles, which leads to a secret! Some might have met the irritating, insta-collapse tiles :S Try again now ;-)

-Some more changes around secrets

-Eyecandy changes on some places, tilebugs removed etc.

I've noticed that when hosting in plus, I am unable to make use of my power-ups because they aren't on the level, and plus assumes I'm cheating by attempting to use them. Please add power-ups somewhere unaccessible if you wish to keep the level plus friendly and it won't cause some other problem.

Also, I second plunK's concerns about the super carrot magic quest. I have some theories as to what to do, but can't actually make any progress. Where would the best place be for me to ask "Now am I supposed to ...?" Would you prefer a PM, or just write it on this thread, or is there somewhere on the official Karrot Shire website that I can post a question?

Well... It wouldnt be a treasure map if it was so easy to get the treasure!

Treasure finders often spend days on finding their loot you know :P

Just try to think of everything that has to do with that flame, then figure what the letters / numbers mean.

Now I'm having problems doing the "To Gain Respect" quest. The Mayor says to accept a reward, so I talk to him, the cutscene starts and then nothing happens.

If you have the carrot, you've already finished the quest, haven't you?

That quest hasn't been made yet in the build you're using. I guess it shouldn't have been accessible at all.

Also, we're taking an indefinite break from development at the moment. Whether/when we continue depends on our enthusiasm and, more importantly, the feedback we get. It's been fun developing KS so far, but our resources are scarce and we have other ambitions as well.

You know, this is really amazing and all, but people should host this more often. A lot more. This looks like so much more fun if you're playing this in a 16-man server.

- The map is huge enough to hide, so you don't die all the time.
- Chatting / helping each other out is a good addition to any multiplayer game.
- Perhaps there should be a tea-house in every city (you know, the idle/nofire zones) so nobody has to run all the way to the teahouse if they wanna idle and chat a little.
- There should be quests you can only do with 3/4 people. That would be very, very awesome if done right.

If I wasn't working at the moment (on an island without internet) I would host more often myself, but alas, I'm physically unable.

I believe this certainly deserves a huge clap, as this is probably the only 'hotel' level that actually works 99% automated, all with one tool.

How to save?:o

wadledee
Aug 19, 2009, 10:34 AM
You need to do 2 storyline quests first. One of em is simply getting of the island. After you leave the boat, there is a guy there giving you the quest "Time to Heal". Its really short, just hop to the Hospital and youre done. Now you can save there.

You can also save your game in your own house.

Super Carrot Magic quest is not so hard! Just think about a quest when you have to do something with the fire! Search in that area if it helps!
Can anyone help me with Uncover the covered II quest? The castle owner told me to find 25 secrets. I've found 32 secrets, and when I go back to the castle owner it tells me something like this: "You know, I really didn't believe you could find so many hidey-holes." I tried the action tab to finish the quest but nothing happens. Please help!

Checking in, noting all the bugs, and reminding myself to splat them someday (I'll look into the castle owner problem, fix the jj2+ upgrade thing, clarity about saving, super carrot etc.).

NiS, your post convinces me it was so worth it to make that quest. Thank you. :)

I can't get past training because there's a fence btw how do you get an axe?

SPAZ18
Nov 10, 2009, 01:03 AM
You need to use the wallclimbing trick which can be done by buttstomping several times below the ceiling. If you are playing in JJ2+ then you will need to type "/wc on" without the quotes.

You can buy an Axe from any one of the shops later on.

I really need your help. I've opened Karrot Shire utility, I started JJ2+ and a public server (gamemode battle, maxscore 100), but after I cycle to karrotshire.j2l I appear up, left to the corner. Why is that? It tells me a message how I should download it from the site.

Same for me. If it works for host,it shows host on the map. It won't work offline. HELP!

Falcury
Apr 2, 2010, 07:25 AM
It sort of sounds like the utility is not correctly detecting karrotshire.j2l. Is that the case? I would say check the utility first, see if it is running correctly.
Someday there will be an update, but for at least another month KS will be "as is".

Lithium
Apr 2, 2010, 09:51 AM
I don't know what to do. It works fine until I start playing. If I am in someone's server,I am stuck on the loading screen and I see host on the map,and if I host,I can get onto the level but the utility shows the error "Jazz2 not detected".

Sounds good but ... Still have no idea what could be carried in inventory. Besides, it is very much like an RPG. Only that it was not long and boring dialogues. Probably sorry he made many mistakes but I'm using a translator online.
