I'm starting a new contest, which is as follows:

Make a CTF level.

rules:
-must be new (previously unreleased)
-must be a ctf level
-any size, but should work well with as few as 2 players
-any tileset (include it if it's custom)
-triggers are allowed, but it should play like a normal CTF level (no team based routes, jails, etc...)

Levels will be judged by me according to style, layout, and fun. The less generic the better. The prize is 10 USD and the satisfaction of knowing everyone else's levels are inferior to yours according to me. ;)

You have two weeks, until Sunday, July 28 at midnight EST or whenever I start looking at the levels. Email them to me at millerbc at whitman dot edu.

Go!

I'm almost finished making a level, and have been testing it online as well as using it in a JDC event. Can I count it? I didn't make it specially for this contest, but it's not officially released as of yet. The version you saw was still in the beta stages.

I don't consider a level released until I put it on j2o.

*Sigh*

Why have a competition for some common level types?
There should be a Treasure Hunt level competition. (hint hint)
Great way to get more levels in certain modes.

Not sure if I'll enter this one... I've never made a CTF level. (Believe it or not. I have made every other official type.)

You have a point there. Not sure I'll enter this one too since every contest I enter I always wind up with squat.

Hello? Anyone there? TEN DOLLARS are on the line here! Think of how many packs of gum you could buy! :)

Two submissions are in already! Don't be stuck turning it in at the last minute with bugs.

OK my first CTF level is in its super late beta stages. So where do we submit our levels when they're done exactly?

Enigma

I'm almost done... i'll probably send it in a day or two... but there's no rush, what would i do with US dollars in Europe? :p

Hold on to it until the USD is doing better in Europe, and then make a killing! (Exchanging it)

Enigma

*points at top post* the email is mentioned there. and i think you're supposed to send in only 1 level ;)

stripe
Jul 18, 2002, 11:55 AM
Yeah, like Enigma said, my email is in the first post.

Just one level per person, please. I don't want judging to be any harder than it has to. :)

4 submissions so far! Keep 'em coming!

For those of you who can't read stripe's email address, it apparently is this:
millerbc@whitman.edu

I normally try to avoid posting my email address in it's unaltered entirety in order to 'outsmart' automatic spam-address collectors.

However clarity is an ever-present issue I struggle with. :)

Alright, I've decided to enter. I don't care if I win, but I want to try my hand at CTF levelmaking. Might as well start now! Still, I recommend that you make the next contest (If there is one) a TH level (or race, but I've made so many of those ;) ) contest, because they are rarer than Battle, CTF, and SP levels.

I just finished mine and I will send it in tonight.
Is it all right if I realease it on the j2o after I submit it?
(I'm talking right after because I'm going to a week long camp starting tommorow, and I will be gone for a week):(
This is my first released level ever, but I think its pretty good, since I have made several levels before, just never thought that they were any good.:p
Hope you like it
*drools and starts talking to himself*
10 dollars...10 dollars...10 dollars...
*wakes up*
Hugh:confused: , where am I? Oh well, I hope I win!:p
Wheeee!:D :D

It's fine if you upload it after it's been submitted. I'll just make sure to not look at the reviews so they don't bias me. :)

When are you gonna announce the winner?

stripe
Jul 28, 2002, 09:12 AM
I'm going to start real testing when I get all of them. The plan is to not just make an ordered list but to write some comments on each level. It will take longer than just pulling the favorite off the top of my head, but this way should help me make a better decision.

Let's hope he takes a nice looooong look at each one <strike>and gets the 50 dollars I sent him with a note saying "let me win"</strike>.

<strike>(If the prize is 10 bucks, then Mike would lose 40. Seems dumb to me!)</strike>

Stripe, do you think that after the contest is over you could post your reviews of the levels on J2O? It would be ashame to review levels so extensively and not write a review for J2O!

stripe
Jul 28, 2002, 01:24 PM
I was planning on putting up a pack with all the levels in it, if the authors don't mind. (and then putting up the comments for that)

FireSworD
Jul 28, 2002, 01:29 PM
Yea... Do you mind if i send you a better version of my level stripe? Theres one bug a had to fix.

Jul 28, 2002, 01:33 PM
Interesting idea... a CTF pack with all the levels linked together! I don't have a problem with that. I still think that if some of the submitted levels (like mine, and CelL's, etc.) are on J2O, you could easily post the comments as a review and give a rating. (Besides, I am quite annoyed that not one person has taken the time to review my level yet.)

Flint LP
Jul 28, 2002, 05:39 PM
Yeah, tats kewl with me!
I would like for my lvl to be in a pack.

Enigma
Jul 31, 2002, 02:32 PM
If you're going to make a pack of all submissions, could you use the fixed version of my level? You can just use my buggy version for your competition (since i don't have the slightest chance of winning anyway :D), but it would be nice if you put my fixed version into a pack like that
