View Full Version : A rather Tasteless sequel

As to prevent people from missing out we're posting this in "General Talk". We had a few complaints for posting last time's announcement in "Miscellaneous". And hopefully this way we'll also get more results.

As some may recall the first Jazz Jackrabbit Tribute Musicdisk was a big success. Reactions varied from "great" to "beautiful" and even "amazing". But there were those who wanted "bigger" and "more". And that's what we're shooting for now!
Calling all Tasteless-members and those who consider themselves "musically gifted" (or "qualified"): "Jazz Jackrabbit - a second tribute" is on it's way. So it's time to start your engines and create a remix of your favorite Jazz Jackrabbit song.

Deadline: 30th of May 2003
Formats: All those playable with a standard XmPlay distribution. (MOD/S3M/XM/IT/MO3/MP3/OGG/WMA/etc.)
Styles: Aside from that it HAS to be a remix of a Jazz Jackrabbit tune (NO FILECONVERSIONS) all styles are welcomed. From chip to R&B, Death Metal to Folk, Classical to Trance.
Limits: Big files, say 3+ Megs, are NOT appreciated. But help will be offered to get your file in an as small as possible size. This will benefit both the administrator's inbox as well as the final release.
Open to: Tasteless-members and guest musicians.

Don't worry whether a song has been remixed by somebody else or not, we welcome variety! Also welcomed are requests from people whom describe themselves as "musically challenged". Though you may not be able to remix yourself, someone else may want to hear your ideas. Post them here.
A submission-address will be announced later on. As said the deadline is the 30th of May and the final release will most likely follow a week later. And this time we WILL think of those whom are Windowless (you know who you are!), haze promisses...

Delightfully acknowledged. :)

What do you mean by "no file conversions"?

If one must convert to mp3/wma format beacuse the original format isn't common, would you be more generous with the file size limit?

Trafton
Mar 8, 2003, 10:28 AM
I think he might mean you can't just convert a file and then use it as an entry. ;-P

Haze
Mar 8, 2003, 11:47 AM
With "no fileconversions" I mean things like converting JJ1 songs to S3M, without any editting. In other words: non original stuff.

And that filesize "limit" is bendable. ;) Just try to aim for the best quality/filesize ratio.

Actually you can do that with just about every mod-tracker out there. Good places to start are ModPlug.com (http://www.modplug.com/) and MAZ Sound (http://www.maz-sound.com/). Recommended tracking software would be either ModPlug tracker or Impulse Tracker. As for instructions: rtfm! ;)

As for the first musicdisk, it's available here (http://www.dutchfurs.com/~haze/?cat=files&dir=files/music).

If the sound won't come through the computer, the song cannot be recorded in AIFF or WAV, which is required in order to later convert it in MP3. I don't know what to do.. :(

Is the line-in/microphone jack setting muted? Or maybe the cable is dead. Or worse: one of the jacks. Those are the only things that come to mind at the moment.

I'm definetly going to try and do something for this. Remixing is always an adventure.

Pho, there are some things you might try to see what exactly the problem is. Try using the cord on something else to see if it works using that. Or maybe put in a mic where the cable from your keyboard and computer connect and see if you can hear anything then. Or switch some cables around to see if you can get it working. To see if any equipment is faulty doing a test on each part is the only way to really know. Maybe your keyboard's output is faulty. You could take one end of the cord and plug it into your computer and the other into the headphone jack of a CD player. There are lots of things you can try.

And it always could be a software problem. Remember sndvol32.exe is your friend.

MIDI... da(fp) you, Cubase!

I recorded the Crysilis theme song by hand with MIDI, after listening to the mod about a hundred times. Does this count, or is it just a file-conversion?

Either way, it wouldn't work, considering Cubase automatically changes all instruments to Grand Piano when converting from an .all file to a .mid file. Bast(quy) program.

Probably because it's midi, and uses a non-standard instrument set. Record an MP3 version. ;P

It is midi, and uses a standard instrument set. Namely, GM. The problem is, Screwbase outputs the songs in MIDI format 0, which defaults all the instruments to GP and Standard Kit 1. Which is teh sux0riffic.

I got my friend Doc K to turn my MIDIs into MP3, so I should have them in by, at latest, the 29th. I know, that's a bit of procrastination, but I don't like asking favours of other people. Anyway, he says he should have the MP3s ready by Thursday, so that'll be particularly rux.

Well, I have the MP3s, but they're kinda not quite all there. Acidius is that last planet in the final cinematic of JJ1, where Eva is dangling over a cliff in a cage. You'll notice that the bubbling liquid beneath her is acid. Hence the name.
