"Fun over safety" was another of the biggest channel phrases ever and can be considered to some extent to be the channel motto.

During the beginning the transitional period between Shadow being +n and the contemporary heirarchy, one fight a number of the ops had with Shadow was the use of +n. This period had a trend of doing channel-wide custom CTCP's, and +n blocked these. Shadow insisted on this as a safety precaution against malicious intent. The majority of the ops disagreed with this and were not concerned about the safety of +n.

During one of the more heated fights over this, Shadow insisted that we were "all about fun or safety" and kept repeating the phrase as if it were negative. We found the phrase to be funny partly due to Shadow's rather disconnected concept of English and we ploclaimed it the channel motto. To this day it is in Q's welcome message.

This phrase also cause some other changes in the channel, such as the permanent banning of "safety" in place of "battle1" for no reason. There was also a tshirt designed with the catchphrase.

Actually it was +C (note the capital letter; +c blocks colors) that was the huge issue of dispute, not +n. +n blocks external messages.

Also, "Fun Over Safety" became the semi-official motto of the WC2004 meeting.
