Description

Hello! This is the first Jazz thingy i ever released, yes, really, it’s my first! I know it is really simple, but what do you want more, nice tiles, nice animations, and a nice palette (Don’t care on that, siriously i think it sucks).

Well, i hope you will enjoy my first release, and keep going on with level creation!

Not bad at all for a first release.

Good Stuff:
> Overall, well drawn
> Interesting background idea. I think this sort of background could have potential, however it ends up looking a bit muddy in this particular usage.
> Plants and ground cracks are effective eye candy elements that add color
> Includes maskless Layer 4 ground for cave walls, etc. that is easily distiguishable from masked Layer 4 ground
> Includes some event tiles (Destruct Block, Vine, Tube, H-Pole, V-Pole)
> Includes a few irregularities in the ground for eye candy

Bad Stuff:
> The set doesn’t include very many event tiles (Text signs, Hook, Belt, Warp, Float Up, etc.)
> The ground texture is quite repetitive
> The grass doesn’t seem to match the ground
> The borders of the ground are too geometric-looking. I think this tileset would be much more effective if it had more organic, rough edges instead of rigid, straight edges.
> The masking job seems a bit rushed or something. Go back through it and fix all the little bugs in it. I also think that the mask on the gold rocks doesn’t fit it well.
> The set needs more eye candy overall. Animations would be great, too.

From what I can see….this is what I have to say. Your graphix are pretty good but not excellent. Your missing the text sign. You can’t do much with the eye candy, like make a really good background. And lastly, the tileset is really small. You get a 6.5

Well, i don’t think that’s really a bad rating for the first tileset i ever made with Jazz2.. And for the graphics i used paint shop pro, mostly the standard textures that where with the program. But i am really happy with a 6.5!

Heh, I think this is really good work, especially for the first tileset! Keep making tilesets but next time, add more eyecandy and tiles! I think, we’ll get really good releases by you soon!

It’s not bad, put PPPPLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSEEEEE

use more eyecandy tiles and animation tiles.

I’ll just give you a 6.2 for the rest of the stuff, but scince it’s your first release, i’ll give you and extra 0.3.

S you have now got 6.5. It’s good for a first release, but as you make more JJ2 stuff, you’ll need to get higher than that, at least a 7 to be exact. So a better tileset is critical.

(P.S, a 6.5 is enough for a download recommendation, so thats a good thing)

MegaJazz asked me to review this, so here it is. ;) I’ve never been good at reviewing tilesets, but I’ll try. :D

“Lava Cave” is a very small tileset, but the tiles which are included look fairly nice, especially for a first tileset. The ground has a cavy look (hence the name), and looks good, though it could’ve been better. You can also put some plants, lava pools (which look a bit weird) and a few other things. The reason this gets only a 6.5 is that it is too small. There are too less tiles included, especially lacking eyecandy and some event tiles. Maybe some characters or anything special would’ve been nice too. The example level shows that you can build fairly decent levels with the set, but there are better ones around.
