Que Passa!!!!

Well, turns out my mom has a copy of Paintshop, and I've been messing around with it a bit. Still haven't got the hang of it, but maybe I could get some tips and pointers from those of you who've been using it longer...

Here's what I've been doing so far

http://www.deviantart.com/view/6382768/ (Messed up with the pencil, but hey, it's a start.)
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/6437311/ (Evil Sorceress seeks rich tycoon for long term fiendship. Must have dime.)
http://www.deviantart.com/view/6438862/ (Yeah, I plan on someday making animated Sue and Louie cartoons. This is the title card of one of the 3 ideas I had. Now all I need is flash or something, and somebody to do Sue's voice.)

Thanks... I'm kinda exparamenting with as many different things as I can.
I'm mostly looking for help with shadows and shading. Anyone got any paintshop tips on that area?

Well, an easy way to go about it is to make the shading layer at 50% opacity, then use a soft brush to paint in the shadow areas with black. (since the layer is at 50% opacity, it will darken whatever you color over). Thats the technique I used back when I was getting started.

Though primitive, its quite effective. http://groups.msn.com/purrhead/shawn...oto&PhotoID=51

All the lighting in that pic was made using that technique. (you can make a lighting or highlighting layer with the same technique).

Anyways, I'm impressed by your advancement in your coloring skillz .

Nice stuff, and that is a very acurate potrayal of Magica Dispell. Ah the classics. ... Dang its kinda crazy how there was actually a Duck Tales movie out in theatres, back in the early 90's. I just remembered that.... I'm old O.O;

GREAT- FINALLY SOME HELP /\/\
Thanks, I'll try putting that into effect in my next few picture(I also have an animation that I hope to colorise of Spot the Starcat leader reving up, running and dodging plasma gun blasts. Yes, it's big but it's almost finished.).

Actually, the thing about Magica was that I had just finnished reading the greatest Magica comic I've ever seen; 'Forget it' by Don Rosa(who's rapidly becoming my favorite.), and I noticed a few differences between the way Don draws her and the way others do: namely the wayward hairs on top and the fact that her dress shows a bit more cleavage...(Eh heh heh...) Since it was coupled with 'The Bedeviled Dime' which was the first scrooge story I ever read, I felt I needed to do something to commemorate it, so I drew her the standard way I've used to seeing her with those differences...
Oh, and if you ever get a chance, you should read 'Forget it', it's funny.

Also, I did see the Ducktales movie. It was really cool, especially the ending with that "Stop those pants" line.

Don Rosa is the greatest. Absolutely. He made the only comics I actually found funny.. ^^;;;
Anyone read that one about this ancient Indian city?

Personally, Don Rosa art style and sence of where everything in the Donald Duck universe falls into place is what I like. Heck- the guy has a Time of Death for Uncle Scrooge that seems resonable. (According to him, Scrooge dies at age 100. Pretty reasonable, in my opinion.)

Well, it's not shaded, but I did this whole thing in Paintshop.

(The background is actually a 3D rendering done in Rhino.)
Get me outta here!!!!

The way I generally go about making a shading layer is by adding a Multiply layer above the layer with the colors, then painting in the shaded areas with the same color. That makes for a darker resulting color underneath. For highlights (I don't use those often, sadly), I just use a Divide layer.

You can see how that works out on my comic. It's how I do things.

The problem is, this doesn't work with all colors. Mathematically, bright colors won't produce much difference, if any at all. Using my comic as an example, Alex's hair (#FFFF00) shows no difference if I use the same color over it on multiply. So that doesn't always work well.

I think I'll swap to a different method next chapter.

Anyhoo, about the pics, I'd say you did a spiffing job. The way you colored things actually added a bit of a textured feel to things (The scroll especially) in a subtle way to make it stand out. Sweet!

Well done, Buddy. =3
Some of those shapes are still sort of.. what's it called, unplastic?
The throne's buttons (? ) could still use some shading, and the rodent on the right also looks kind of flat for some reason...
But other than that, awesome. Really looks like *lights go out and Faw illuminates his face from below with a lamp*

"All the people in the world I don't like, and I'm stuck in a room full of them."

I like it. Gives the shadowy look and feel of the Fabled Panther King's throne room quite nicely.
