Return of the Jazz

Hey. I keep visiting here, but never post anything because I rarely have anything to post. But.. now I do. This is actually my entry for lark's art contest, but I've had the idea for this for a lot longer. The contest just seemed like a good time to actually work on it. I felt like posting it here because I wanted to get some comments other than how it related to the contest.

In case you can't recognize it, I made this as a parody to the Star Wars: Return of the Jedi poster. It's not an exact parody, but that was the general idea I had in mind.

Some technical details.. It took me about a week and a day to finish this, working on it for more of the day. I ended up with 36 file in the project, totaling 51.7 MB. Started with some pencil sketches, and then work from those in GIMP. 18 layers in the final composition, and 5-10 layers for each character (I worked on characters separately from the final composition).

Thumbs up

Nice pic. Well, not professionally made but if you keep on practicing you'll be very good at it. I think you have lots of other ideas. Good work!

I'm curious as to if you can point out where the flaws are, and how they could be fixed.

Looks pretty good, but Eva could've been done better, especially her eyes (which just look strange and awkward), and chuck could've been done a bit better as well (looks a bit emotionless). Jazz also looks a bit dazed/lost in thought there ;p. Otherwise, you did a good job on it.

Great, but Dark Shell and Spaz are weird.

I think that's Devan, not Dark. You can tell because he's not wearing his armor or cape.

The problem with Chuck's eyes is that they aren't focused on anything. It makes him look hypnotized or something.

Oh, and Lori's neck connects strangely.

The lack of eyebows on centrain characters makes their expression look quite stupid. Nice picture otherwise.

- Eva could've been done better, especially her eyes (which just look strange and awkward).
Her eyes might look awkward because I realize I forgot to give her eyebrows or eyelashes. Her head might also be a little too tall, but I'm not so sure about that.

- Chuck could've been done a bit better as well (looks a bit emotionless).
Chuck was rather difficult to draw because I didn't have any references for him other than his standing sprite in game.

- Jazz also looks a bit dazed/lost in thought there ;p.
I did have trouble trying to figure out just how Jazz's expression should be, and what I ended up with isn't too great. I'm not sure how to make it better though.

- The problem with Chuck's eyes is that they aren't focused on anything. It makes him look hypnotized or something.
Chuck is supposed to be looking off too the side somewhere.

- Oh, and Lori's neck connects strangely.
Lori's neck looks properly connected to me..

- The lack of eyebows on centrain characters makes their expression look quite stupid.
I now notice that Eva lacks eyebrows when she should have them. Otherwise, I don't think Jazz, Spaz, or Chuck are supposed to have eyebrows.

Also I should note that my primay source for references was the JJ2 manual (and LC for Lori).
