LMAT (September)

Well, the Let's Make A Tileset project for August was a huge (IMO) success, so here we go again for September! First, I'll copy in the rules from last time:
  • Each update to the tileset must contain at least one new tile.
  • There are no official color restrictions. You may draw in 8-bit, 16-bit, or however you want. At the end of August September, Tilesetpal will be used to attempt to reduce the tileset to a reasonable number of colors if it is an issue.
  • When updating the tileset, you may also edit existing tiles - this includes changing the colors, making them bigger, fixing small bugs, changing the shading, etc. You may only edit a tile if it is still recognizable as the same tile once you are done with it. Never redraw an existing tile from scratch.
  • You may alter the tile order as little or as much as you want when updating the tileset.
  • Do not include a Palette tile. This will be added when the tileset is complete. However, it may be advisable to leave a blank tile for the palette to go into.
  • Please refrain from posting textured backgrounds until at least the 20th of August September, so we have an idea of what the tileset is like. Eventually, one textured background (if more than one are submitted) will be picked to be used in the tileset.
  • If you really do not want some of your tiles to be edited, for whatever reason, specify this clearly.
  • Don't worry about masking. I (or a helpful volunteer if one exists) will compile a mask for the tileset at the end of August September. If I (or the volunteer) am unsure of how to mask a tile, and no instructions were provided in the post that introduced the tile, the creator of the tile will be contacted about it.
  • Logical content rules apply. Do not use the tileset to contain attacks against other people, pornographic or oherwise illegal images, links to illegal web-sites, or stuff like that. Use your common sense.
  • Enjoy, and don't be afraid to ask questions!

And here's (again) two fairly ugly tiles to start you off with. Feel free to add onto or edit them as much as you want.

Whee!

I'm greatly for editing the rock Unknown made to make it look better. I'll do it later this evening if nobody else feels like it until then... but it will be edited.

its not a rock but an exit sign!!

But anyway, I'm busy with the thumb, so there's no need for anyone else to start working on it.

A hook. v2.

..anyway, maybe we should go for Fawriel's idea to make a beach tileset and make the dirt tiles yellow and keep all the viney stuff green? Then we would know what to put in the tileset so it wouldn't be as chaotic as Kansas.

Or we could have both platform types! And exit signs!

And, if we're really making a beach tileset, we need ships too, ofcourse

I might be ignorant here, but are those green tiles an edit of something else? I seem to recognise the thumb/cup/animal-ish thingy from somewhere.

Ah..

The green stuff could be made to resemble underwater plants, possibly. Some sort of plant-ish underwater world.

I prefer having two exit signs, one of them floating in mid-air, so you could put them in/on a wall or something. It makes it more versatile. Just use Flash's first sign.

Anyway, the green stuff is supposed to resemble coral or something? If it's supposed to be underwater, the buttstomp tile is pretty useless as buttstomping is impossible underwater :P

You must set the water level to greater number than 127.

In regards to water, you can also stomp if you have an airboard or copter, right?

Besides, it would be cool to be able to walk in a sort of cavern of corals that isn't filled with water by entering it by swimming through a passage... see what I mean? Hmm, caves...
..we can't use that single, dark-bluish swirly tile as a base for cavern background tiles, though. It'd be illogical for it to look so different from the masked corals...
On a side note, Unknown, am I mistaken or was the swirly, marmor-like tile supposed to be used for marmor platforms, floors and the like, or am I mistaken there?
It would be interesting to have a sort of beach tileset with some tribal/temple-ish things here and there... that's actually the theme of a tileset I wanted to make for the now dead Journey to the Center of Carrotus episode..

...the community seems to dig the color green, doesn't it?

I was thinking about putting in some sort of Roman/Greek temple thing, but I'm not sure if my skills are sufficient. So everyone feel free to take my idea

BTW firebird I don't want to sound rude but your tiles look like a very very cheap copy and paste job.

BTW Cooba I know but lots of levels are smaller than 127 tiles high ;(

The bottom of your bg thing doesn't tile 100%

I would wait with making tiles like that (tile edits/transitional tiles), Fire_Byrd, until people've edited them a bit so we know how they'll look like. It's only the 2nd of September.. platform edges can be useful in determining how things will look like tho

Also, it seems nice to post every change into the full tileset, not as seperate tiles, at this time, since it gives a feel for how the tileset will shape up now there's not really a large start yet..
