Some random idea
I got this idea while playing OpenTTD. I think since it's pretty obvious that we'll never get the source code for JJ2, but we do have a minimal understanding of how JJ2 works, using that knowledge and the combined programming efforts of people in the community, I was thinking that it could be possible that we create some sort of OpenJJ2.
The idea is this: Someone gets JJ2 Said person downloads OpenJJ2 OpenJJ2 installer requests files from JJ2 Install finishes, and Mr. Person has a working install of an enhanced JJ2, with things once thought impossible built right in. Now, I know the real problem with this is the lack of people who have proper programming knowledge of how to create such a thing, or understanding of how certain components of JJ2's inner workings. But, it's an idea to chew on for a while, I guess. |

It would be open for a new JCS, new events, new gametypes, and it would fix all the bugs.
It could also easily be ported to other platforms, like UNIX and Mac OS. The idea is that it's an open canvas for whatever. You could hypothetically do anything you wanted with it, and enhance the game we have "loved" for so long. The only real problem would be our lack of understanding of the format of files essential to JJ2. Unless we magically gain this knowledge, we may need the helping hand of Epic or Orange Games (or Lost Boys, or whatever). |
