I'm not totally sure this is covered in the FAQ... I think because the "internet play" - or some such name, don't feel like checking at this hour - menu option in the shareware version always seemed to sugget an obvious positive answer.

It is possible to play online using the Shareware Demo (I've seen it happen), but there's a catch: you can't join servers that use the full versions (1.20 and up), but players with full versions can join your servers. Go figure. The rest is pretty much the same as the full versions except for the levels offered (no Battle, just 1 CTF and 1 Treasure Hunt).
