OK...if I understand correctly, Jazz3D was cancelled because a)CEOs(or whoever's in charge in a game company) didn't think it would be profitable and/or b)nobody was being paid a cent....
Roughly what amount of money would go into the salaries of a team developing a game like Jazz3D? This is pretty movie-ish and naive, but if we could bring Jazz3D to the attention of enough people, maybe everyone(who has money to spare, of course) can pitch in with a small amount and lots of people contributing small amounts eventually puts together a large amount... This is just a random idea, and it surely isn't the only way to get Jazz going again...I just thought it wouldn't hurt to casually mention it(and hopefully start something of a discussion) ![]() |

I don't care to research it right now, but commercial games can be in the hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to develop and publish. It's possible to do it with less of course, but it would either take longer or not be as good.

With less money it would most likely just be not that good...Is the demo that leaked still with the Unreal engine, btw?
Hundreds of millions? I didn't see that comming...I thought about 10-20 million tops...shows what I know ![]() I have to admit...I'm also guilty of having the demo...I played for 5 hours straight to finish it and some (semi-detailed) notes on it I've been comprising...I got killed near the end...With permission, I could post the notes within the next week... Going back to the initial topic, the quality I saw in the demo is fine with me...the fact that it isn't all cutting-edge even makes it better in my opinion - it gives it an air of an old classic, in a good way ![]() There surely are at least a few tens of millions of people who have played and loved Jazz1&2...suppose half of them get their hands on the demo, most of those people like it(personally, I think anyone who has enjoyed Jazz1&2 will love the demo, but anything's possible), and the majority are willing to contribute a relatively small sum to the Jazz cause...That would be a start...And it might show WTG and co that Jazz is no old hat |

For (-)sake. I'm tired of this "Less money means less quality!!" thing everyone has somehow deveolped in their minds. Have anyone of you played Gish? look it up. It's a budget game, worked on by 2-3 people, was finished in about a year, and it's far better than anything a normal game company was releasing in the 2d gaming market at the time.
Plus it's not like having lots of money garuntees a good game. Ever played Unreal 2? |
