Lightbulb This is a crazy idea, but it's worth asking...

OK...if I understand correctly, Jazz3D was cancelled because a)CEOs(or whoever's in charge in a game company) didn't think it would be profitable and/or b)nobody was being paid a cent....
Roughly what amount of money would go into the salaries of a team developing a game like Jazz3D? This is pretty movie-ish and naive, but if we could bring Jazz3D to the attention of enough people, maybe everyone(who has money to spare, of course) can pitch in with a small amount and lots of people contributing small amounts eventually puts together a large amount...
This is just a random idea, and it surely isn't the only way to get Jazz going again...I just thought it wouldn't hurt to casually mention it(and hopefully start something of a discussion)

I don't care to research it right now, but commercial games can be in the hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to develop and publish. It's possible to do it with less of course, but it would either take longer or not be as good.

...

With less money it would most likely just be not that good...Is the demo that leaked still with the Unreal engine, btw?
Hundreds of millions? I didn't see that comming...I thought about 10-20 million tops...shows what I know

I have to admit...I'm also guilty of having the demo...I played for 5 hours straight to finish it and some (semi-detailed) notes on it I've been comprising...I got killed near the end...With permission, I could post the notes within the next week...

Going back to the initial topic, the quality I saw in the demo is fine with me...the fact that it isn't all cutting-edge even makes it better in my opinion - it gives it an air of an old classic, in a good way

There surely are at least a few tens of millions of people who have played and loved Jazz1&2...suppose half of them get their hands on the demo, most of those people like it(personally, I think anyone who has enjoyed Jazz1&2 will love the demo, but anything's possible), and the majority are willing to contribute a relatively small sum to the Jazz cause...That would be a start...And it might show WTG and co that Jazz is no old hat

For (-)sake. I'm tired of this "Less money means less quality!!" thing everyone has somehow deveolped in their minds. Have anyone of you played Gish? look it up. It's a budget game, worked on by 2-3 people, was finished in about a year, and it's far better than anything a normal game company was releasing in the 2d gaming market at the time.

Plus it's not like having lots of money garuntees a good game. Ever played Unreal 2?

I really doubt it'd be possible to pull a Serenity with JJ3. Even though a fair amount of people have heard of (and even played) the original Jazz Jackrabbit, most of the people outside of this community don't care enough to donate lots of money towards making a sequel. Sadly, if we want a JJ3, we're just going to have to hope that Epic takes charge and makes it.

What's a Serenity ?
I'll experiment a bit and see what happens...If enough people get the message, there's no need for anyone to donate lots of money...Time will tell

Serenity is a movie created by Joss Whedon based on a cancelled TV show named Firefly. It was created not because the show got amazing ratings (although it did), but because the fans wanted it so badly that they basically forced some higher-up people to get to work on it. Like I said, pulling this with Jazz would be darn near impossible.

For sure...Besides, dealing with the likes of bureaucrats was never my intention - as far as I know, they don't listen
Thus, e-mailing Epic has never been and never will be on my agenda :P

No. Don't you think it's already been done? Like, more than once? All you'd do is annoy them and want them to just forget about JJ2 and ignore us even more.
