Game Unstable?

I do love Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and consider it a great game. I have noticed, though, that the game crashes very easily and yet unfairly. Like if 2 events in JCS collide or if an event is put on a flipped tile or if 2 people stand on a bridge or if somebody comes in and lasers your server and theres tons of other ways Jazz 2 can crash. And simple stuff that also cause trouble like Trigger Zone ID 0 doesn't work or background not moving when put on auto accelorate X in Layer 8. Hitting a trigger crate when theres nothing to trigger or shooting a block with no unmasked tile can cause a lvl to fall apart. Too many wind rights and then a wind left randomly placed can cause a crash. And sometimes Jazz 2 will crash for what seems like no reason. And the 1 million error messages that come up usually saying Access Violation or Divide by Zero or something similar. It can get very annoying and frustrating to the lvl builder who spent hours on it just to get it to not work or not come out the way you want just cuz of some wrong placed Trigger Scenery or something.

So this is what lead me to my question.

I don't have much problems with it. You just have to know the limitations of the game.

You have mentioned this several times but I'm really not sure what you're talking about. Could you provide an example level?

or if an event is put on a flipped tile
If an animated tile is flipped and contains an event which requires changing the tile at that spot from one frame of the animation to another. Easy not to do.

or if 2 people stand on a bridge
The calculations for how far down each individual segment of bridge should move includes a calculation of division, and if two different players both affect a bridge, occasionally a calculation will involve dividing by zero. Unavoidable.

Hitting a trigger crate when theres nothing to trigger
This doesn't seem to cause errors for me.

No... unmasked tile? Huh?

Never seen this.

My only real problem with JJ2's limitations is the memory limits of levels. I'm sick of my levels crashing because they're too big, have too many enemies and/or too many triggers. Aside from that, it's fairly simple to keep JJ2 from crashing.

Overall I think the game is fairly stable. There are bugs that some of us know a little too well, but most of the time it runs fine.

The game isn't all that unstable, but it's still unstable enough to be annoying. I guess that's what we get for playing an old bunny game from the late 90s, eh?

I have to partially aggree with Drmoo. While the game itself runs fine, there are still numerous bugs in the game that can easily crash it or make it stop responding. Although most of them can be avoided by proper level design/network filters/common sense.
