internet problems...

hey...i jus returned to jj2sf after a 5 year absence and im trying to host a game online...my friends tell me its always "pinging" and i dont kno how to correct that...since i kno the jj2 community continually updates the game itself, after installing jj2sf i downloaded some listservs from J2O but nothing else...is there some way i can correct this or if this is already mentioned somewhere in the forum can somebody point me there?

im currently in a rented appartment which my internet is already provided. I have my firewall configured that it opens up the specific ports for JJ2...i have no router, but im somehow certain that my internet is limited because of some router that i cannot manipulate with...is there anyway to avert this or is it impossible?

Yep.
You could use Hamachi as Gry said.
Else, hmm, try to find out if you really do not have a router.
If you do not, hmm.. it might be a firewall (or more, if you have more firewalls ;P) :S ..
