Memorable threads?
Quite a few other forums I visit have a "hall of fame" sort of forum, where all kinds of memorable/valuable threads go. I think that the JCF should do the same thing and make a subforum for memorable threads only.
The reason behind is that sooner or later people may want to read a thread they have fine memories of, and that place would serve as a quick link (as opposed to attempting to search for those) to those threads. The subforum they'd be located in would disable posting new replies, which also protects those threads from being crudely revived. Let me just name several worthy threads off the top of my head:
Your thoughts on this? Also feel free to suggest your memorable thread ideas.

Memorable is too subjective, IMO. I mean, who even WANTS to remember Word Association?
EDIT: And the only threads I even remember are ToU and Br+Sal.

I think he means threads that shape the community. Like when the Jazz Dedicated Server comes out. He wants people to remember the days of the drawing board. So this subforum would be where you could find that kind of thing.

I think that this is a worthwhile idea and that it might help fuel better threads and posts for the future.
How a thread would be put into this forum is another question.

I think Tik means... how do you decide if it is memorable enough?
|

Also, sometimes the sub-forum the topic is in contributes to the topic itself. I don't know if threads like that should be removed from their sub-forum and be put in a new board...

That seems like it'd make them harder to find if you're looking in the logical place.

A hall of fame would be a good idea. Maybe it should just be a stickied thread with all of the memorable threads linked in the first post.
To discuss a threads "worthyness" I'd suggest to review it based on a few criteria. Like originality, innovation to J2O/JCF, humor, etc.

It should be sufficiently different than simply taking the threads with the most replies. I mean, Word Association isn't memorable, it's massive. Nobody would even WANT to re-read it. Things like the well executed hoaxes and pretty much any WT topic at least have some degree re-read value.
I mean, if a "hall of fame" is made, it shouldn't just be a trophy ("Congradulations, you made a massive, hideous, godless thread you crazy forumite you"). It should be the cream of the crop; the kind of thing you'll look at and think "wow. This is a pretty cool forum" (as opposed to "I associated words how many times?").

Radium's point is valid. I removed Word Association from the list; does anyone think that PATPAY shouldn't be put into the hall of fame?
If Stijn's idea could be executed it would probably be the best option.

Stijn has a good idea. But maybe put a link on j2o. A link that says "community memories" Then make a couble of links within that page, one of which being memorial threads. Inside that link you should put a list of memorable threads and the links to them.

I also wouldn't mind if an admin would share his/her opinion on this(!)

um.
I'd personally sooner go with the threads appearing there instead of actually being moved there (is it possible to tag a thread or something and have every thread that has been tagged appear in the HoF?). Aside from that, though, this is an awesome idea. And PATPAY should definately be in :(.

I think a question to consider is exactly how many memorable threads the community could come up with (memorable being so vague as others have said), and whether that number is large enough to constitute a forum dedicated simply to these 'memorable' threads.
JCF is a somewhat active forum, but I think it's fair to say the bulk of the posts and threads here are less than memorable simply because they are pretty much random and disjointed and truly great threads are few and far between, most of them ancient. I don't mean to say "There are no good threads here," only that I'm not sure there would be enough 'memorable' threads to warrant a hall of fame. It'd be a pretty small hall. |

Well, we could make a pedestal of fame, an entire subforum containing only the BEST thread ever.

Personally I like the idea, but it should really be up to the admins, and the moderator for the forum the thread in question belongs to. For example, if a cool threead is made in Misc, Derby and FQuist decide together whether or not it should into Hall of Fame.
Also anything in Forum Games is out of the question. |

For reasons that hopefully won't have to be explained, I think it's a good idea to require a nominee thread to be of a certain minimal age before consideration of entry into the HoF, and not just any recent thread that you think has potential/starts out promising etc.

In that case the thread would be at the top of the forum and easy to view anyways.

We should also throw this thread in.
http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=16903 (btw Slayer was saying some stuff about macedonian people so i don't think it's right that slayer only displays what he wants people to see).

Slayer was insulting Macedonian people so pyramid turned around and said that about the Polish only because Slayer started it.

I don't see how that thread is memorable at all, and aside from the fact that it was closed (for a good reason) before anybody even posted in it (and that it dealt with something personal that had nothing to do with the jcf anyways), the memorable threads forum really doesnt need to have that stuff thrown into it so that everybody can realize that certain people are idiots.

a question for the staff
If thread redirects were used in this case, would it be appropiate to Hall of Fame-ify threads which are likely to be revived sooner or later?
