A new listserver for the community
Okay now, it seems like we can't rely on Burger and his listserver anymore. Let's try to organize J2 online playing:
Monolith, are you able to provide a reliable 24/7 listserver? And will it stay up for the next months at least? We need to find someone. The J2O guys will post an "official", easy-to-use J2O listserver patch that EVERYONE should download and that should be published everywhere. |

I'd be more than happy to host a dedicated listserver but Logicware never responded to my e-mails about mirroring.. plus I will be offline for a few weeks.

Okay, enough of it.
HERE iS THE LiSTSERVER PATCH AGAiN!, now with his idlegames-pseudo-hostname. Just save the file somewhere on your harddisk and "run" it. And for those who want to remove his server from their registry (why would you want to do that?), i also provide an uninstaller. Download the file and right-click on the file in Windows, then select "Install" from the drop-down menu. Voila. Please spread the patch and tell people about it. Monolith, i hope you like the idea...if not...too late i fear :-P |

I try to keep my list server up all the time. I still have to restart my computer about once a week, and occationally I get the weird problem where the program hijacks the CPU power. At least I'm a lot closer to you guys, the community, so you can just tell me it's down and I can do something about it in a few hours.
I'm defenently not professionally reliable, but still better than nothing I guess...

Aiko, I'm afraid to say I didn't understand anything in your most recent post.

I think we should contact Burger and ask him why the list server has been unreliable. If he thinks they will become stable again then we shouldn't move to Monolith. Monolith really isn't that more reliable.

Burger's doing his best. It's just that he had some serious problems with his ISP lately. But everything should be back to normal by now.
And I don't think we should SWITCH servers. That will only cause more trouble. Even now some new ppl aren't aware that they have to use the (old) listservers patch. Adding an extra listserver would be an option, not replacing.

When we had our 2nd most recent listserver outage (the one that lasted for awhile..around Halloween) I started hosting a listserver and syncing with Monolith. I have been trying to still run it, but it isn't cooperating. Monolith is sending the stuff to my comptuer, my router is receiving and accepting it, but it isn't getting it in the program. *sigh* Of course mine would only be a backup, as my computer needs to be restarted a lot. (This will change when my new one comes in.

I was actually only using it for that pretty long period of time when the listservers went down....I was never planning on constantly leaving it up.
And about it getting spread around, you're right, it isn't good. But it is tough to actually run a reliable one like Burger has done for us. ![]()

I think that it's better to have more listservers. As long as they all mirror each other, that is.
BTW, jazz.logicware.com mirror list on 10056: 1. jazz.logicware.com 2. flea.idlegames.com 3. monolith.idlegames.com 4. albertolovesbugsy.idlegames.com 5. list.jazzjackrabbit.com (0 days, 5:39:43) [which means the uptime, which means it's up!! ![]() 6. mail.godgames.com
