Hosting Servers
I haven't been able to host a server since my dad got a network modem. I want to fix it, as it is not fun to not be able to set the number of roasts, the level, or game type. I miss it dearly
![]() So, I'm asking you for help. Any ideas? (The server pings forever when I try.)

Network modem?...
Does that include a router? What brands are the pieces of hardware (outside you computer)? What sort of internet connection?

Er...lemme clarify
A router is only for BROADBAND connections (DSL / Cable
![]() If you have a speedy 56k connection (No, AOL doesn't count), then you just need something as simple as a USB Network. With a router, I really don't want to go in detail again, just look at the article on J2o. I'm not sure why if you don't have a router it is blocking ports. Basically what you need to do is find where your configuration settings are located and go in them and look for something about "ports" or "forwarding" and free up ports 10052-10054. That should let you host because those are the ports that JJ2 uses to "talk" with the listserver, and allow people to join. ~SB

If nothing else works, then you should simply resort to calling customer service. Ask them:
I have a 3Com OfficeConnect Ethernet Hub 4C. This is blocking certain ports disallowing me to host on a multiplayer game. Is there anyway to free up ports on my hub? If they ask you to go into more detail then: The game is Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and it requires ports 10052-10054 for users to connect. I didn't notice that you had a hub until now. A hub is LIKE a router, it allows you to share internet connections (including DSL...maybe cable.) I'll ask someone who has a hub if you can free ports on it. ~SB
