1.23 -> 1.24 patch, why it rox0rs and you should get it!
I'm gonna copy and paste whatever I said in "another forum" and change a few things in order to adress everyone.
Well, here goes: *starts off with his reply to why not upgrading because of 'non-j2o' ppl is a bad excuse* Just how many 'non-j2o' 1.23 ppl are there? not a lot at all, actually, I wonder if there actually are any. Apart from that, there are loads of bug fixes, and many new possibilities for level/tileset creators. I have on many occasions before reached the tileset/level size limit, and its not a nice thing. And sure, there are a loa dof hotels and test servers, but that's not all there is, a lot of ppl there host proper servers, and the only reason there isnt as many of those are because a lot of the 1.24 players would swarm to 1.23 just to get with us. Once we have a good balance of our own decent servers there the hotel thing would dissapear extremely fast. My theory is that the only reason hotels have been that popular on 1.24 is because ppl there that want to play normal games would rather move to 1.23 instead of hosting them on their own compatible serverlist. Hotels and test levels are probarly the only things a lot of TSF players have seen, and don't know otherwise. By sticking with 1.23, all you are doing is blocking yourself off from a part of the community, and in a community this small that is not a good thing, I say we all merge to 1.24, and get this whole split thing over and done with. So what if they still host hotels, we're nto forced to join thier hotel servers if we go on 1.24, but we can host our own just as easily. Seperating yourself from other people in a community this small is just plain stupid.

I agree. Everyone who doesn't want to upgrade came up with very lame reasons till now. For example it's not like hotels kept you from playing two years ago. Neither is it true that TSF players are n00bs or lamers. They quit to talk Dutch all the time a while ago now and I'm even ready to say that most TSF players may be more dedicated than most people on this board (this probably also includes me and Disguise).
A year ago everyone wanted to be compatible. But if you ask me, most of you rather want to be serparate to them. |

On J2O.
I recommend you save your old JJ2 files or CD, because if you upgrade, you can't downgrade back, and it makes you unable to play online with 1.23 - this is very unconveneint, as we all know about *guess* 33.5624% of the JJ2 population won't upgrade, for reasons like the patch is too big, or... they're too lazy. (Edit: BTW, Disguise, that little piece was effective, though there are tons of 1.23 Non-J2O's. We just can't see them unless they get the listserver patch. ![]()

Why did it take so long to to get up with this patch anyway? Other games have patches in no-time and here it takes about years having people saying they're gonna make it, but in the end someone else came up with the patch.
Now that the community has it, it's only logical to apply it, and so u should.

I dont get it, who said 1.24/TSF was a patch? is it a new upgrade some jazzers created? 1.24 and 1.23 are two diffirent games well the same though diffirent programs and addons and stuff.

this 1.23 - 1.24 patch PATCHES 1.23 jazz so you get lori, TSF servers ect. But it doesn't give you the TSF game (Basically the SP levels).
The reason why the patch was only just released was because we needed permission to. And since we just got it, it was just released. My opinion is that we should stay 1.23. Why you ask? This is why: Because my TSF JCS (Like many others) has severe problems. And if we all go to 1.24 then the people with these problems will be forced to miss out on the use of these new tilesets and other things. If there was a way to some how magically fixthis problem then all would be solved!

TSF JCS is unstable and slow, I never use it. Especially since once you save a level using TSF JCS, it becomes unplayable in 1.23
Hm...Talec, what's so great? I own the full TSF, and it isn't that much different. ![]() Although now I have no idea who is playing what version. |
Jun 12, 2002, 02:34 AM | |
The TSF JCS is NOT unstable. 1.23 JCS has exact the same problems. For some reason JCS gets faster when you use it more. I remember having to wait two minutes to wait to load a tileset on this pc. Now it's reduced to 2 seconds.
(Both times were in 1.23 JCS) |

*gasp*
There are still 1.23 servers out there!!!!!!! Eek. ![]() |

I agree with Disguise completely, everyone that doesn't have 1.24 should download the patch.
Since I've acquired TSF a few months ago, I don't need the patch, but I tried to download it anyway and I got redirected to this site. At least one other person has also experienced this problem, does anyone know why?

Yeah, we've actually all should go to 1.24, dont mind those rooks. Its actually our all faulth that they are there, because they never saw ppl with coloured names or with ASCII and they dont know J2o. But if everyone go'd to 1.24 the guys in TSF would take them as examples of a evolved jj2`er and so copie them and use ASCII and Colours and even maybe get proffesional jj2`ers or something, if you guys understand what I mean. And they would slowly understand the meaning of jj2, so they wont chat so much anymore or dont make hotels and foolish clans.
And besides TSF has more options etc, like in JCS.

There is no meaning to JJ2. It was only designed for money. Also, though, the designers hoped that it would be fun to play. Whatever you want, that's the meaning of JJ2, so anyone can make hotels, or chat all the time, or make silly clans, or not have colored weird-ASCII names, or... um.. something. Three out of four of those I do anyway, and I'm not a n00b.
(I don't make hotels. They're boring. Okaaaaaay, I don't make 3-4 clans a day, either, but I call NC silly. ![]()

defalcon: Well... It's just cool! :P Don't tell me you didn't think it was the coolest thing when you got it ;P
You CAN play/make levels with 1.23 after patching. Just copy: Jazz2.exe JCS.exe Anims.j2a Data.j2d Change their name in whatever way so they don't clash with the new files (I added 123 to 'em), and when you want to play 1.23, rename the TSF files something else and change the 1.23 filenames to normal. Except for JCS. You don't need to rename it to make it work. (I currently have 1.23 named "JCS.exe" and TSF's as "JCS 124.exe") My dad may make a Batch file to do the renaming for you. If it is done, I'll put it here if anyone wants it. ~Talec LP

We don't allow the patch until we're sure it's legal. We don't want trouble with Lost Boys Games, right?

Umm... My dad's version-swapping batch files are done and zipped, and I was going to put it here, but the Attach File doesn't work.
Am I supposed to upload it onto J2O? ~Talec LP

Heck, the only reason I left was because everyone left me all alone in 1.23 (Before this patch surfaced, mind you). Mebbe this a good reason to install JJ2 here. Mebbe.
Update: Okay, JJ2 1.23 is installed. However, it will not allow me to download 1.24. It does say on J2O that permission was granted though. BaH!
