I find that I usually only check topics on the top unless I want to find something old... could you make a feature to where it stops displaying topics 5 down from the last newest (that sounded wierd...) topic?

Go down to the "Default thread view" option and select something small, like the last day or the last 2 days.

Then in situations where you want to see more, just go down to the bottom of the thread list and choose from there.
