Actually, the listserver even runs perfectly fine on a 33,6k. But it won't have any use to host another one. I think wel all should stick to one thing.

How long does it take a 56k user to send 5kb of info to another 56k user?

Answer the same question for ADSL.

Since the info which is constantly being retrieved is nothing near 5kb, it is safe to say that no, connection speed does not matter.

The list server just links people to IP address'. It doesn't host the games.

I do not have dial-up .... what gave u that idea.

give me a 100mbit line with a "permanent" IP adress then ill talk more

ADSL ip's changes "now and then"
Also ADSL doesn't even come close to a 100mbit line..

my ip changes when i want it to change

Um.. is it just me or do we have a semi-permanent listserver allready? It's down sometimes but every server is down once in a while! Imagine difficulties with your host, computer problems.. everyone has these.

in my closet .. yes closet i have a computer that serves many things it has only crashed once...

its been runnging for along time

As you can see, it has a 17 day uptime. I don't know what kind of uptime logicware usually has, but that's not bad or a 'backup' server.

(Telnet on port 10055 to monolith.idlegames.com for this information and some more.)

iCeD's server (genotoxin.idlegames.com) is also mirrored when it's up, and Flea and Alberto also have list servers, but have problems mirroring for some reason. However, as you can see, there's not really any need for another list server. People just need to add monolith.idlegames.com to their registry (in HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Epic Megames\Jazz Jackrabbit 2\1.23\List Servers).

I'd like it, just for experimental purposes of course, I'm not gonna tear apart the jj2 community or anything I just wanna see what its like.

I'd like it to see what it is but I don't care if I don't have it. Not on my wish list.

As far as I know they all mirror each other (that is, they are compatible). See Monolith's article: http://www.jazz2online.com/articles/view.php?id=23

But we still have no real need for another.

From tests that I have conducted mirroring does not function properly about half of the time or so. It's been a while since I did mirror tests though.

DDL Klein, why do you want the listserver? It's obvious you're not wanting it to be of help as it's not needed.
