I sketched out this graveyard like thing, and I'm digitally painting it on the computer. Just thought I'd show ye all the progress, thus keeping the JCF Art Forum updated.

I'm keeping the pencilscan in there over it to give it that grainy look. Also, it makes it look darker. Which I like.

IMO it was worth it to stop my download to see this. The first one gives the eerie feeling of a graveyard with the styled jaggedness of everything. The full moon and laterns are a classic touch.

The second one's coloring is awesome! I sort of expected a little more green mist on the bottom though. I think you also forgot to show some kind of contrast when the branches go from the sky to the moon. They look transparent. The sharpness of the ground makes it look like there's a ditch in there or at least a load of stacked dead bodies.

Just viewed the third, depending on your taste (I prefer color I guess) it's the best out of all three. The opacity is just right on all of the objects (maybe not perfect on the ground still) and I still sort of expected more green mist.

The transparencies you see are the sketch - Parts that I haven't painted yet. I have the sketch on a layer above the actual painting, thus, in Painter 5, I can pretty much trace the trees. There's more to it, there, but I don't always like giving out my techniques, no matter how basic they may be.

That's the first thing I DON'T want you feeling...

Changes since number 3? Well, I played around with the light from one of the lanterns (the far left one), threw in some more green, played a TINY bit with the moonlight on the grass and put in the second tree. The reason it's half-transparent is to give the picture a little more depth. And besides, I'm going to add a mist/fog effect over it.

The green almost gives it "too" much colour, though, unfortunately. But I think a layer of fog should fix that.

I'm gonna make the sky a little darker and colder, too. At the moment, the picture is looking too warm. So I might even dull down the lanterns too.

Yep. Those are my intentions. See what you think.

I should have said only a little bit more. I agree, it does give it a bit too much color... now I don't know what to suggest. More moonlight does seem like a good idea and you always have 3 to fallback on should you mess up somehow.

Hm... I liked the 'rough' haziness of the backgroundmost tree in pics 1-3... it threw in that extra bit of freakiness to the whole thing that really added to the atmosphere.

But, 4's pretty sweet, too. Excellent. :-)

I might lower the opacity on that tree a little more then. Easy fix.

As you may guess, it's in the final stages. I can't see much wrong with it, but I bet you guys can.

Changes? Mainly: added fog, put on a blue filter, dulled the green in the background a little more, blurred behind the fog, and generally just mucked around until I got what I wanted.

Well it's great! ITS GREAT!!!

Now for the critics, i think the earth (dunno how to say it else) is too 'deep'. ehm.. to much earth. black. stuff. I mean, on the bottom it's too repeating, those shades.
And the middle lamp, hanging on the tree, looks to much 'drawn', too different from the other things.

But overall: ITS SUPERB!!! Very good job!

That's so cool! I love the way you did the blackness against the moon and stuff. Nice job
