Angry Finally got JJ1, now problems are coming in by the truckload

Foo.

I finally got JJ1, but I'm having a bunch of problems.

First of all, a sound card problem.

I have a soundblaster AWE64.

the game doesn't have that option for a sound card.

Also, on the same basis, for some reason when I play, if I'm not using "No sound Card", it tells me to go to setup and choose a soundcard! It makes me want to shake the moniter and yell "I ALREADY DID, YOU IDIOT!!!"

Next, a few graphics errors.

When I start a game, everything goes black. I can return to windows and then come back to the game to get the graphics, but then there is the chance of

A. Getting a black screen that I can NOT get rid of

or

B. Getting a strange screen where the view scrolls across the screen, instead if with it. I don't know how to describe it, but the main thing is it makes it hard to play.

Lastly, a running error.

When i play JJ1, quit, and play it again, it automatically quits out of MOSLO. At first I could just run something else, then run it and it would run, but then that stopped working.

My comp speed is 500mhz and I'm running windows 2000. My sound card is soundblaster AWE64. I don't know what my graphics card is.

Thank you if you can help.

I had the sound card problem on my dad's computer, it had a sound card jazz1 didnt support, but the game worked ok..well not quite. Whenever it was trying to load a bonus stage, it froze. Whenever it was trying to load almost every bos level, it froze.

Anyways now with my p4 comptuer I had to moslo the game like 300 times before I could get it permently working..almost, so it worked everytime I ran it using moslo. I have a Creative Sound Blaster audioPCI 64V (WDM) do I dont have the sound blaster problem, so now jazz1 is like bug free here except I hardly ever play it.

On my dad's old dos windows 3.1 computer, jazz1 worked fine in dos mode..sometimes it crashed when loading levels though. And when I tried to take screen shots, sometimes there was snow on the screen.

Don't use Moslo. Use TPPatch to actually fix the problem, instead of working around it. Moslo is probably causing some of these problems. See my TPPatch article for information about it. If TPPatch doesn't work for some reason, try Newspaz's solution, which is still just slowing down the computer but works better than Moslo. The best way though is to fix the problem with TPPatch.

For Sound Card, you will want to choose Sound Blaster 16. Go into Control Panel->System and find SB16 emulation, and click Properties. Find out what the settings are (IRQ, etc.) and change the settings in JJ1 setup to these.

I can't actually get JJ1 to work on Windows XP or .NET for me, and I get graphics problems like what you described. It might just be that old DOS games like JJ1 won't work properly on these new NT-based operating systems. If anyone has had luck with JJ1 on XP, 2000, or .NET, please give some help here.

Where can I download TPPatch? When I try the link in your article, it directs me to Ebay!!! I am thoroughly ticked off at my web browser.

Where can I find it in system? I looked at it, but I have no idea where it is.

Oh...In my article it uses the old J2O address (jazz2.nagcentral.com). That is gone now though, so just change the link to www.jazz2online.com:

http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads...oad.php?id=341

With Windows 2000 you need to go to one of the tabs and click on "Device Manager" or something. It isn't integrated right into control panel. Just go through the tabs in "System" until you find "Device Manager" or "Hardware" or something (I can't remember what it's called).

Then click it and go through looking for SB16 emulation, or equivalent (it might be called something else; the key word is "emulation")

"Creative AWE64 16-bit Audio (SB16 compatible)(WDM)"

Was the closest I could find so far. Now what?

TPPatch's readme is in a different language. Is there a translated version, or is there someone who could tell me what to do with TPPatch?

Go into the properties for that sound device and see if you can find a setting for SB16 emulation anywhere. Or find a screen which tells you the settings that JJ1 wants (like IRQ, DMA, etc.). You may also want to check in the help file for your sound card where you can find this information. (I don't have that sound card, so I can't give you specific instructions).

As for TPPatch, I have instructions in my article. If you need further help, ask in this topic.

In setup, it doesn't let me select IRQ and that kind of thing. It just says: Settings are OK. Accept?

If you answer "no" to accept, then it will let you choose the settings that you want.

Anyways, did you find the settings in control panel at least?

Ok. I don't know what to do then. I know that my Creative audio driver has something like this. You could play the music (downloadable) with an MP3 program while playing the game, and just turn PC-speaker sound effects on. You could also try all the different possible IRQ\DMA\etc setting combinations until you get the one that works. This isn't too hard, because there are only like 2 or three choices for each setting.

Did you find my article about TPPatch, and did you get it to work properly?

No, the article worked fine, just the download didn't work. My dad showed me how to get the values, and they don't work. I still get that stupid message:

SETUP
Please run setup and configure your sound card.

And yes, Jazz runs fine now that I got TPPatch! I just wish I had music. Returning to windows every time I complete a world or bonus level is just a little aggrivating.
