I'm working on some thing realy big...

Is started a Rayman1 tileset once, but it as difficult considering that Rayman tiles are 16x16, while JJ2 tiles are 32x32. The game "Claw" has some great tilesets (based off 48x48, easy to convert), but it may only be legal to make JJ2 tilesets out of the Shareware version's. Too bad, that pirate ship one ruled =P.

I have Rayman designer, that contains a level editor of Rayman including all the tilesets. Tell me which tilesets there's releashed with the demo and I'll convert them.

Actually, URJazz, that's a Rayman1 pic. Rayman2 is 3D.

Typically, you would just take the 16x16 tile and blow it up to 2x the size. It's a fairly simple procedure and it usually looks fine, since games with 16x16 tiles are generally in a low resolution like 320x240, or half of jj2's resolution.

Mountain Hill Zone from sonic was a 16x16 tileset and I converted that one. I just put the tiles in different combinations, it really wasn't THAT hard. I wouldnt like to resize stuff, makes it look ugly. smart size would totally mess up the palette and normal resize would have the pixels 2x2 in size, looks ugly imo. Best way is to tile the 16x16 bits, there really arent that many combinations needed...
EDIT: 48x48 tiles when resized will have a loss of detail, several things that are 1 pixel in size will dissapear, or appear but proportionally bigger than intended. Not the best option if you want to preserve all the small details (and its those that make the niggest impact on a set).

Rayman 2 is the only 3D jump and run game i ever liked (and the only one i ever played, i think, heh). Hard to imagine how you can make a tileset out of it, though.
2D platformers fit much better for making J2 tilesets. Check my Blues Brothers Comeback tilesets (tilesize was 32x32, too, iirc). They kick arse. IMHO :-) |
