Jazz2 keeps "freezing" my computer

Ever since I got Windows XP, I've had problems playing Jazz2. Sometimes it works perfectly well and sometimes, everything freezes. I can't open and close windows, I can't minimize or maximize and the only program I have control over is the one currently displayed as highlighted on my screen. I can switch programs using alt+tab but that's the only way apart from waiting about 30 seconds or so for everything to unfreeze. What's the matter? Btw, I run JJ2 in window-mode because I do lots of other things as well.

I'm guessing processor power?

What are the specs of your computer?

I have the same problems, they are solved easily by using alt+tab though.

Another sucky thing here, and notonly with XP: often after entering a chatmessage and sending it, my JJ2 freezes a short time. Sometimes longer, sometimes less long. Mostly if many people are in my server...but this oughta be impossible, because I have a P4 2,53....I wonder why. Anyone knows a solution?

Anything other than your processor may be making the problem? I have the problem but it's my connection choking receving packets slower than they are being sent.

okay I'm thinking it's the program choking. This is a Win95/98 program and it's not designed to be used this fast...

This happens very often to me as well, and so far I haven't been able to fix it (it happens exactly how you describe it, on both of my Windows XP computers). I also play in windowed mode because full screen hurts my eyes on a big monitor.

I think it has something to do with JJ2's title bar, which seems to bypass the windows XP themes (though the problem still happens on themeless mode).

Does anyone else with Windows XP experience this problem?

I have not tried JJ2 on Windows XP. Have you given the compatibility mode a shot?

Same problem! My Jazz eats up all the CPU power when running so there is not much left for the rest of the programs which are then running very slowly or even freeze because of this. I have not been able to limit the CPU usage of Jazz so far and I have the same problem with the rest of the games like UT2003. Alt+ Tab works but when I switch to another program it is frozen. If I try to move the jj2 window over the screen - that usually helps a bit.

Yes I have. I tried all the compatibility options, and even tried 640x480 screen mode, but nothing helped.

I think it is an issue with Windows XP specifically, that needs to be solved with a new version of JJ2 (add to the 1.25 list).

Hmm, I have this problem but it's mainly when there's like seven or more rabbits on the screen on my 56k, it slows it down considerably, and even freezes it sometimes. I get this when Hosting Survivor, and when this happens I just sit out.

I have not been able to have JJ2 freeze like that after I took out a faulty copy of JJ2 from the registry and JJHH from the registry too. Could it be that in yours it starts at 1.21 and when you upgrade it adds 1.23 and it's confusing XP? I haven't had too many freeze problems ever since I took them out.

Short reply: I agree with Link.

Long reply:
I also tried every option (Disable Themes, 256 colors, screen mode) but nothing worked.

As Link said, it is a Win XP specific problem. I think Jazz 2's code needs to be updated to be more compatible with Windows XP just like other old programs I have.

I have windows XP and I havn't seen anything different.
The only thing that is different is the thing when I chat it sometimes displays some @'s and a few other weird characters like $.
But I think that you all noticed that.
