Kill The Pop-ups!!!

Ok, I have been having trouble with pop-ups lately (My computer installed a couple of programs without giving me a chance to kill them. I uninstalled them, re-booted and they installed themselfs again), and I was wondering which free pop-up killers work best. I want one that will stop all pop-ups, all auto install programs, and won't give me its own pop-ups. ("Upgrade now for only $X, and recive more blahblahblah and less blahblah!") I am using IE6 and WIN XP, if ya need to know.

ThanX!

Try RegCleaner to delete the keys from those programs from your registry. Should work.

*bias* Use Mozilla */bias*

Though if you do want a free popup killer, check out AnalogX POW!. It's a bit basic in use and options, but free and does what it's supposed to do: kill popups.

You should use Ad-Aware (download site) to get rid of spyware running in the background. You might also want to keep the reference file up to date using Ref-Update.

If you feel pop-up ads are a nuisance, you can also download Proxomitron, which essentially uses proxy settings in your browser to filter out advertisements of all kinds, without having to completely disable javascript (which sadly, many pop-up tools do, and they advertise that they are doing much more). There may be some other tools out there as well, but this is one that I think you may like.

Hmm... go to Task Manager (right-click on Task bar or press Alt+Ctrl+Delete) and list all the process that is running in the "Processes" Tab. Maybe we can point out any suspicious files.

I love The Proxomitron. I've been using it for some months now, and it makes the Internet less annoying! It's been like a savior to me
