Tileset contents... anything else?
Besides the stuff I have listed here, what other types of tiles should be included in a good, complete tileset?
"Normal" sprite scenery (both floating and grounded) Unmasked sprite scenery Layered Background & Foreground scenery Vines Hurt Float Up Warp Directional, Info, & Exit signs Destruct/Full Speed/Stomp blocks Sucker tubes One Way scenery |

Some animations would be nice

Possible Belts and a working texture backround.

..and after looking over both the list and the other posts, the only thing I can think of is a Hook or two. Getting Snow, Pinball Objects and at least one shootable pole object to work is nice, but not required by any means.

I'm going to make my own list here.
Here are the things I feel MUST be in any tileset, no matter what. -Multiple types of ground tiles -Sloped tiles, preferably at two or more angles -Sprite layer background tiles -Other background tiles, enough to fill layers 6, 7 and 8, and optionally layer 5, although this isn't as important since many people prefer to use layer 5 as a background to layer 4. -Plenty of eyecandy, including animations. -Vines and hooks -Destroyable blocks -Spikes or other hurt event type things -Poles -Signs -blabhalvhavjkhsdflgkajhgdashgd too lazy to finish list

Okay, here's what I have so far (in the order they appear in the tileset):
"Normal" ground: 2 types, slopes, free-floating and grounded with discrepencies Warps Hurt Vines: straight and angled Signs: Directional, Text, Exit Foreground Scenery Pipes Sprite Scenery (no mask) Hooks Background Scenery Blocks: Destruct, stomp, 4-hit, #2, #5, #4, full speed Faces of Jazz and Spaz Various other parts Animations are scattered throughout the items above. I do need the poles, though! Thanks, Infinite Spaz. I've tried belts and they didn't turn out so well. I might try them again. Any other ideas? |

By the looks of things, you need a layer 8.
|

Masked invisible tiles, if you don't already have them in your list.
IMHO, don't add Jazz's and Spaz's faces. Not to be offensive or anything, but they make the tileset look less sophisticated. That's just my opinion, though; if you want to use faces, go right ahead. It's not like I have any real say in this... ![]()

The most important thing that your list is mentioning, besides blabhalvhavjkhsdflgkajhgdashgd too lazy to finish list, is various eyecandy tiles. After all, a tileset simply containing the basics is not a great tileset. Also, it's always good to include as many types of ground as you can, so everything does not look so plain.

I included Layer 8 in "Background scenery".
I think I forgot to say that I have Float Up scenery in my last list. And yes, I have lots of eye candy, too. Perhaps another type of ground might suit well...hmm... I've never liked using invisible masked tiles, but I guess a lot of people do, so I'll put some in. They're pretty easy. |

Ok, and here's some rarer but useful stuff..
|

Oooh! Good ideas! I'll keep note of those.
I guess it's true that no one makes those "Water Block" tiles in custom tilesets. Caterpillar....hmm...okay. I had considered switches and doors before, so I guess I'll put them in. I just thought of another one: trigger blocks. Both the dotted ones and solid.

Do you guys think that I should put in an optional textured background? Right now the background I have is only intended to be used as a "flat" background.

Animated enemies.
In words: A tile showing a monster/(other thing that might move and hurt) that can move around and serve as a hurt-event. Animated sorta like this: 1.Sprite-Empty-Empty-Empty 2.Empty-Sprite-Empty-Empty 3.Empty-Empty-Sprite-Empty 4.Empty-Empty-Empty-Sprite You can of course give the thingy a smoother animation or so,but it works fine like above!^^

Spikes on more than just the ground are always convenient.
Also having angled ceiling tiles is nice (don't know if I stated this understandably)

Okay. I actually have most of those things included already. I guess I'll make that textured background.

Tiles that can mark team spots are indeed a good idea. Red/blue tiles.
Also, depending on your tileset, you could add rain/lightning bursts(a white tile).
