Event Limit?

I'm currently building my second level. It involves a lot (read: more than 1000) of Warp events. I just want to know in advance, is there any set limit to the number of events I can put in one level? If it makes any difference, I'm using the TSF JCS.

I don't think there's a particular event limit, but the warp type number limit is, I believe, 256, and a level with lots of events may cause online lag.

You can have more than 256. Edit your jcs.ini. Look for the warp event and set the number id to 10. Do the same with the warp target id and viola, 1023 warps.

There is an event limit. I'm not exactly sure what it is exactly, but anyone who has made a Foo Races-type level with a lot of events would know.

SSF

Yeah, there is an event limit. I've reached it in an SP pack before (too many enemies, too big level), had to split the level in two just to get it working. I highly doubt you would be able to put in 1000 warps, just a friendly warning

Apart from that, if you put in too many weapon crates and there are too many spawned weapons lying around eventss will start to dissapear all over the place. It's an evil lag preventer that has basically no use today because of the crazy 1GHz (even 3GHz when I'm typing this, would be funny to look back and laugh at the slow 3GHz processor in a few years time) processors available today.

Now, from saying all that, TSF has had this limit increased by a LOT. If tilesets are 4 times the size in TSF you can ASSUME that there is 4 times the amount of events. Now ASSUMING (not sure AT ALL don't quote me on that) the event limit in normal JJ2 is 256, the limit in TSF would be 1024, which would possibly leave you to make 1000 warps, with that you onkly have 24 events for other stuff, too low for all the extra events...

256 event limit? Are you sure...I mean, I've definetly never heard of something like that. You'd think someone would've run into it.

I myself have run into an enemy event limit, but never a total event limit.

Or that is, do you mean a limit for putting one event (like you were saying, a lot of warps), or do you mean all events in general (like only 1024 events in total, no matter what they are)?

The warp expansion thing does not work because of the nature of how JJ2 stores warp information. They just begin repeating again, I believe.

There IS an event limit. I have ran into it before, but I can not remember what it was...

I've had the same problem with the event-limit as well...

I think it's the mass of the events that counts, since I could play a level that had hurt events ALL OVER the tileset(I used some weird event-replacement trick to replace all not-used tiles into a certain event),but the limit on trig.rocks usable is limited...
Meaning
-hurt event:not visible
-trig.rock:alot of mass(almost 3x3 tiles)

I don't think there are any limits on events, but only on sprites. So, there is a logical limit on sprite-generating events. I've just packed more than 16000 warp events and tested them at various corners of the level, and all work just fine. The key to to limit the use of ammo (especially crates), baddies, and other events that have pictures (sprites).

Tile graphics aren't a problem, as the game can load those dynamically as you move, but it has to keep track of every sprite graphic and state in the entire level, whether its on your screen or not.

Your level should be fine. From what it sounds like, it will be about solving puzzles than a mad baddy bash anyway.

Not quite. It's a platform-hop race-type level. Fall down, and you warp back to a point in the level. I needed to cover a whole row of the level with warps, so that no one would fall through and get stuck or nothing.

Why not have just a long border on the bottom and seperate the seperations with thick walls and have ONE warp there to go back to the target, instead of using 1000's of warps. Just easier...and it shows a time pentalty for missing the jump.

I thought there was only a animation limit - enemies and other moving things included - but I think you can't reach the thousand. 999 is the most you can do.

There are 32 different TriggerIDs (0-31). TriggerID 0 does not work with Trigger Zones. Generating Trigger Crates are automatically TriggerID 31.
