Monitor problems.

Hi.
I have a really old monitor (it came with our 486.) I don't want to halfta buy a new one, but this one is starting to give out. The green in the monitor somtimes randomly decides not to work, and recently, the display has started vibrating. Is there a way to fix this without halfing to buy a new monitor?
ThanX!

Well the best way would be to buy a new monitor, because a monitor that came with a 486 is bound to be bad by now.

But anyways, does the monitor have any controls? What about a degauss\reset button on the back?

Sometimes a monitor plug inserted badly can cause color weirdness. Make sure it is in the computer completely.

And sometimes the display vibrating can be caused by electrical interference. Are there any magnetic devices near it? What about machinery? Sometimes even an intensive device on the same electrical circuit can cause problems (example: my computer is on the same circuit as the built-in vacuum, so when someone is cleaning the house, the monitor flickers)

I had that same problem. I actually got a new monitor for that 1 week ago.

And i had a Windows ME. The first signs were vibrating lines on the screen (perhaps a virus i accidently downloaded), this also happened before the lines; was when i restarted my computer, in anyway; there was almost a mini explosion, like sometimes all red, or blue, green, purple, sometimes mixed, sometimes all. Then a week ago it went KABLEWEY! and the monitor wouldnt work, it would turn on, but no visual input was seen. And it made funny clicking noises too.

So Nobody, i highly reccomend u either buy a new moniter that is same brand or higher that is compatable with your machine. Or get a guarantee on it as well.

I hope i helped.

I checked all connections, they are good.

Its compleatly random, it doesn't matter what anybody else in the house is doing. It seems to have stabilized for the moment, but last night it was all over the place. It had snaped horizontly(sp?) all the way out, so far that the ajustment knobs on the bottem of the monitor couldnt bring it in far enough to see both edges of the screen at the same time. This morning, it worked perfectly like nothing was ever wrong with it.
Thanks for your help!

Don't worry, I read yours, I was just ignoring you since I have no money whatsoever(ok, about $26), and therefore cannot buy a new monitor.
