"Connection to Server Timed Out"

"Connection to Server Timed Out" ERROR:

Okay, it's driving me absolutely nuts!! How do I fix it?

I have already downloaded the server patch, I can connect to the server lists fine, and can join a game, but after 15-25 seconds of playing normally I get the error. I'm on a wireless network card, would that have anything to do with it?

I'm going to try some more...

Thanks in advance for the help (whoever).

There seems to be an exponential increase in the number of these topics. I've devised the following simple test to diagnose this problem:

Quote:
1. Do you use a router?
2. Do you use a firewall?
3. Do you use a home network?
4. Do you use some kind of ISDN connection?

If your score was one or higher, refer to previous Technical Help topics and the FAQ to diagnose and resolve the problem. If your score was zero, or none of the topics in this forum helped you, reply here with more information about your specific network setup. Thank you.

More info: I can host a game fine, but as far as people joining it, dunno about that, no one has yet. Also, often times when I'm on the server lists, all the games I can join (the white ones) always saying "pinging, pinging, pinging..." and continues abnormally long. It could either be their connection speed or mine (but I have DSL, so I don't think so.) PLUS, all the games that are grayed out have no problem getting a ping rate (talk about frusturating). This has happened every time except for once. (Did that all make sense? I hope so.)

In answer to you questions:

1. what's a router? Since I don't know/can't remember what one is, I don't think so.

2. No, why?

3. What do you mean by "home network"?

4. Nope. It's DSL.

Thanks.

Well, after rereading your first post, I have come to the conclusion that you have a router and a home network, whether you know it or not.

A router is a device that connects to your high-speed modem, and shares the connection between all the computers on a network. Seeing as you have a wireless network, you most likely have a wireless router.

So, look at some of the other topics (there are even some on the first page), and come back here if you still need help.

}

I plan to write a comprehensive guide about routers and firewalls and stuff, because this is the most common problem for JJ2-players.
