Windows 98/ME unstability problems
Hello
Now it's me who needs some help heh. My problem is that Windows 98 or ME seem to be really unstable, they crash most of times, programs crash and when I try to shutdown my computer it always gives any error with Kernel, Explorer or any application that is on. I don't really know what might be my problem, but I already updated all drivers of my computer like soundcard, videocard.. etc.. The funny thing is that in XP it never crashes My computer specs are: AMD Atlon XP +2200 Asus A7S333 motherboard Seagate 60GB HDD 256 MB DDR AOPEN GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB DDR TV Out C-Media sound chip Windows 98/ME and XP (Dualboot) Ok, well, thanks. ![]() See yeh |

Windows 98 and ME aren't well known for their stability. If you completely format and reinstall windows, it might remain stable for a while. My only suggestion other than that would be to make sure you have everything patched and get all up-to-date drivers.

You should be able to keep Windows 98 stable for a little while with a fresh install, and if you don't install a bunch of junk programs. Don't bother trying to stabilise Windows ME. Just stick with XP. ![]() Oh and btw, nice rig. Beats mine in almost all areas except for the video card. ![]() |

I remember back when we were using Windows 95 (gasp!), we upgraded our processor and windows no longer worked. Microsoft said that the only way to fix that was to upgrade to Win98. You might be running into a newer instance of hardware not being supported in some way by Windows. Or perhaps some driver you use wasn't made very well.
