Killerrabbit, you try making a game from scratch. Lets see, first you need an engine, then some programs...(goes on for hours). O yeah, you finally need a publisher. And that's what Epic couldn't find

And if you want to make a cool game it needs a cool engine and those arn't in stores and are around 250,000$ to 500,000$ or 600,000$! The bottom line is, negative answer, probably no.
But I think that some day our kids will be playing with a 3D green rabbit... ![]() |

So what if they have a bigger community? We're all pretty much friends in this community, and that is all that counts.

Although I do not want to sound like some sort of pessimist, but I would have to dissagree with Wild Angel's post.
If a game company, or any company for that matter creates something, they have to make money. If they do not, they lose money, and sometimes go bankrupt because of it. A small, but close community will bring in less money to the company as opposed to a large but more chaotic community. |

Actually, JJ2 was more of a sleeper hit; they didn't believe it would really rake in as many sales as it did, as 3D was becoming more of a standard at the time, and it would probably be overlooked. They didn't necessarily lose any money; actually, they probably made a good profit off of it. However, it just wasn't enough for the average game. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is still mentioned for still surviving in an industry now rendered in 3-D, but that's about it as of now.

Thats the problem currently.
P2 Died and Epic has now the full rights to do what they want. Lost boys want to fight for these rights. If they win they will get it all, release source, make a Jazz 3 without Epic's stupid things and rights. |

i dunno it might be possible.... but im not sure it will work out for JJ3

Right, here's the full story as I've heard it numerous times...
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was pretty well hailed by every reviewer alive as being a unique kick in the pants from a genre of game (2D platformer) long considered dead. Most of the people who played it loved the game, but sadly, the number of people who bought it was quite dismally low. To date, it remains the only game the Gatering of Developers LOST money on publishing. See, that's the sorta reputation that follows a game series. Never mind the bestselling status Jazz 1 had in its day. Afterward, another company (I think it was Lost Boys Software) actually DID begin making a Jazz Jackrabbit 3. They used the Unreal engine to do the job, and from all I've been told, they did a good job with it. Epic was impressed, as well, and they kinda wanted to make it happen. BUT, as it turns out, Epic doesn't publish their own games anymore. After Unreal was released, they kinda went crazy, or greedy, or something, deciding to ditch all their old games (You can't buy Jazz 1 from 'em anymore) and stop publishing their own games. And remember how Jazz2 never sold well? Nobody ELSE wanted to publish it, either. Jazz Jackrabbit 3, therefore, kinda ceased production. And Arjan Brusse, the maker of Jazz, kinda said he didn't want to deal with "that green rabbit" for a while. Best rumor I've heard is that they might release whatever they had as a mod to Unreal/UT. But, as it stands, don't count on Epic to make Jazz Jackrabbit 3...

Because they don't care anymore for "that green rabbit".
'nuff said. |

F!re: Remember, Epic doesn't publish their own games anymore. The old days of Epic making, publishing, and publicizing their own games is long gone. Now, I'm assuming solely in an attempt to save money, they outsource ANYTHING they can to other companies. This, of course, kinda digs them into a rut if they think a game looks good but nobody else trusts the series.

This is not about care of meanies, but about money, as spam kind of said.
And shadow, that's not entirely true. No-one says they will be making jj3 at lost boys, and they aren't going to fight. They (probably) just send a few lawnyers to officially talk about the sourcecode.

![]() Yeah, it was either Lost Boys or World Tree... one or the other, really. Couldn't remember. And even if Epic DID care about Jazz, they'd still need a publisher. Which, unless someone suddenly decides to have a change of heart, it doesn't look like it'll happen...

Electropizza: the point was they couldn't find a publisher.. that's all. That has nothing to do with care.
