Connecting through Router

I am using a DLink DI-604 Router that I just bought last week, shortly after I discovered this wonderous site

Anyways, I want to play online, but I can't stay connected to the servers! I'll be in for a few minutes, but I get disconnected when the connection times out.

I know its something to do with my router's firewall. What settings exactly am I support to set, which ports and what not?

Virtual Server screenshot
Firewall screenshot

I'm sure its one of these, because anywhere on the internet I've looked, tell me to look in one of these 2 pages, but I can't figure out what to put in where...

That said, I'm hardly new to playing Jazz2 online... I used to play it loads, ages ago when the game was new, back when there were official servers still around, and loads of people online. Good times

JJ2 requires UDP port 10052 forwarded, as well as TCP port 10052 if you wish to host games.

First find out what the IP address of your JJ2 computer is (assuming Windows XP, as per your screenshot): Start-->Run, type "cmd" and press enter, then at the command prompt type "ipconfig" and press enter.

The IP address there is the IP address that you'll want to forward to. So in the Virtual Server section add two entries:

(Enabled)
Name: JJ2 UDP
Private IP: (IP address you determined above)
Protocol Type: UDP
Private Port: 10052
Public Port: 10052
Schedule: Whatever you want

(Enabled)
Name: JJ2 TCP
Private IP: (IP address you determined above)
Protocol Type: TCP
Private Port: 10052
Public Port: 10052
Schedule: Whatever you want

This question has been answered many times in the past, so next time try searching this forum before posting.

Apologies for posting what has been posted before..

I'm a member of a rather popular board myself, and I understand the frustration :P

I tried searching, but I just couldn't figure out exactly what to put into the router setup. I'm somewhat of an expert with computers, but this is my first experience with a router, lots of new things I don't understand.

Thanks!

I've had the same problem myself. I have the same router and everything. What Link mentioned will only help you host games, and that's all. We have a special problem. We need to open up additional ports to be able to play JJ2 online. You can copy me and live on the wild side, although I should mention I use another firewall, BlackICE that is, for extra protection. I don't know how safe this is, but if you think it's worth it, give it a try:

Open up UDP ports 1026-1079, 1081-3127, and 3129-4999. This may not work 100% of the time, but it should work in general (at least that's true for my comp).

An alternative (aka the super lazy/risky way) would be to just temporarily enable your DMZ which will "allow a single computer on the LAN to be exposed to the Internet." In other words, this will open all ports and make your comp vulnerable to stuff. Do whatever you want, but just don't blame me if something bad happens (how nice of me to mention this). But I haven't been hacked to death as of yet, just so you know.

My router config also has an "outside port" and "outisde IP" field. What's that?

I found an easy way to fix this issue, and in my case the only way (My crap router can support enough port forwards lmao) Just set your network IP to DMZ.
