I want to make a tileset.

I saved the tileset as a 24 bit BMP file.

But when I tried to make the tileset it said:

Error! Can't open file "C:\GAMES\JAZZ2\Tiles\mb.bmp"

How do I get rid of this error?

It gets ugly when I change it into 256 colors.

Is there a way I ccan change to 256 colors and keep the normal graphics?

Well, you should try to find a way to optimize the pallette that way you keep the most important colour.

Every tileset (creator) needs his own way to do that so you better figure it out yourself.

psp can convert bmp into gif without color changes, so maybe it can change 24bit to 256 colors?

No psp can't. Only if the bmp also contains 256 colours.

What other files can JCS use next to BMPs?

Maybe those can do 24 bits.

Does anybody know how to make ANM files?

It can use a lot of formats, but they're all 8bit. If you use a non-8-bit version of the format, it won't work. (As you know from experience..)

Personally, i use PCX (ZSoft Paintbrush format, Version 5) files. Works fine.

Regarding colour reducing (Truecolour to 256 Colours) you can get very good results with a program called Paint Shop Pro

Apart from that, Assassin, you should browse the JCS forum here a bit. There are A LOT of threads on the same topic (me, IceMAN, Newspaz, Disguise and other guys explained a lot already).
