IRC = Internet Relay Chat
Need a client like mIRC (Downloads.com) or BorgIRC (www.borgirc.net)
Server: irc.quakenet.org
ChanneL: #JJ2

I understand the basic part... a JJ2 chat thing, to make the people who only play JJ2 because of the people leave JJ2, but the rest is gibberish to me. Links that don't work? Create it yourself? 50000 channels?

I can't access iRC via my crappy dial-up connection because of a serverside firewall.

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's basicially like any other chatting thing you've used, only better. Yeah. I am bad at explaining things.

I'm not completely sure what you don't understand Unknown, so I'll just try to briefly explain it all...

#JJ2 is an IRC channel. IRC (which stands for Internet Relay Chat) is a system where people can connect to servers and talk to other people on that server via text. On these IRC servers, people join together and talk in what are called channels. A channel is basically a small section of the server usually deticated to a certain topic (such as Jazz Jackrabbit in this case). It a person talks in a certain channel, only other people in that channel can read what that person typed.
That's pretty much the basics of IRC..

For mIRC, go to mirc.com, download, install, and run the program.
When the options come up, click the add button and enter the following data:

Description: Quakenet
IRC Server: irc.quakenet.org
Port(s): 6667

Click Add
In the second drop down box, it should say Quakenet.
Enter in something for the full name and email address.
Enter your nickname, and a slightly different alternative (note: spaces don't work)
Click 'Connect to IRC Server'

Once it's done connecting (you should see 'End of /MOTD command'), type the follownig:
/join #JJ2
That should open a new window through which you are in the #JJ2 channel. Hopefully someone will be there to assist you from that point

I tried Shadow's link and it works fine.

Monolith, I connected via my commercial dial-up and verified that your info is correct, although I didn't have to Add because there was already a Quakenet folder and servers for it.

Spaz Boy, mIRC may be a 30-day trial but everything is functional and you can continue using it even after 30 days. It follows the honor system, in which the registered version doesn't really give additional functionality.
