Ah, I see. So I have to create a custom object and use determineCurAnim to draw the desired sprite?
Seren
Nov 23, 2014, 07:20 AM
No, you just have to load a sprite before drawing it. For example, the following code will, with no side effects, initially load the <code>MENU</code> set so that it can later be used in <code>jjDrawSprite</code> and <code>jjCANVAS::drawSprite</code> function calls:
void onLevelLoad() {
jjObjects[0].determineCurAnim(ANIM::MENU, 0, false);
}

Idk if this is possible to pull off, but, can you make 2 way tubes for JCS? Or is it atleast possible with angelscript?
Violet CLM
Nov 30, 2014, 01:33 PM
Jelly Jam: Yeah, that's no problem with AS. What you want to do is use <code>jjParameterSet</code> to set the X (or Y, depending) speeds of the sucker tube events to face whichever direction you need. So if you're on the left side of the tube, call a function to set the X speeds to positive; if you're on the right side, set them to negative.

What version of JJ2 are you running(1.00g, 1.00h, 1.10o, 1.21, 1.22, 1.23, 1.24, or one of the Xmas Editions?), when did you install it(Before any major changes on your PC?), what version of Windows are you running(If you're running it under another OS, please do specify), and does your version of JJ2 have any oddities(Weird box art, missing content, strange menus, weird glitches that only happen to you)?
Oh, I don't know why I didn't answer this!
+ I have 1.23, 1.24 TSF and 1.24 Xmas - I have all editions.
+ I installed it July 2013, I guess. But PC has no major changes - except 2 recovery processing.
+ I use Windows 8.1 Single Language.
+ No oddity. JJ2 works very well in all versions.
And so here it is, I still can't install JJ2+ :(
I'm reading the post from here nowadays, and the news look like exciting. Wow!

Okay, I'm going to ask more questions:
Did you extract all the plus files out of the Zip, and put them inside the corresponding JJ2 folder? This is essential. For convenience and making sure you don't miss anything, use Ctrl + A to copy all files.
After that, did you use plusifier? You also need this to make plus. It'll create jazz2+ exe. If you try to use plusifer when the plus contents aren't in the jj2 folder (and having the zip itself in the folder doesn't count, you have to extract it), it won't work.
I also advise getting the October 2013 version. It hotfixes some annoying bugs.
If you get the application error when opening JJ2+, that's a normal plus bug. There's a way to work around that.

They're not the same community, and have a different host. Some other site (site removed -- Torkell) is more about the ladders and "competitive" side of the community. They're more relaxed about posting warez. It's probably to do with host provider rules.

I doubt that some other site's (site removed -- Torkell) host provider allows warez. If more people visited, eventually someone would report a virus (JJ2+) to their ISP, which could result in the site being taken off the web. The problem is lack of distinction between virus and warez.
Plus the communities are basically same. Just two different subsets of the same group of spam bots.
I already even reported some other site's (site removed -- Torkell) piracy to Epic's twitter.

Alright, enough of this. This is the JJ2+ thread, not the "should sites permit warez" thread.
Feel free to create such a thread if you want to continue the discussion, as long as you obey the "no warez/abandonware" rule.
Also, while I've removed the name of the site in the previous posts that doesn't mean you can't post about it or link to it. Just not in the context of providing warez (otherwise we'd have to block Google :) ).

JJ2+...Virus? Really? You fished that joke right from the desert.
I wouldn't worry about piracy until Epic actually bothers to redistribute JJ2.
But I better not say much else, because oh wait, it's actually a joke that no one else gets but Krsplat himself, but no one understands because they're dry as sandpaper, so you don't always know when he's actually serious.

1. Idk.
2. That's Gry's fault, he didn't include menu.j2b in the installer. Nor the intro or bonus music. The J2O mod archive isn't working right now, so the only way I can think of getting the menu music, is downloading this;

I never tested this, but try starting Jazz2.exe with the -nojoy command. Just enter your JJ2 install path with Jazz2.exe -nojoy from the Run dialog, command line, or anywhere else where stuff can be ran from.

At least these songs are included in the Shareware game, so perhaps try and download a shareware JJ2 copy from any source on the net, install it, and copy those songs to your JJ2+ folder.

<!-- - Team treasure hunt perhaps? -->
A question: will the bug that crashes JJ2+ when starting the game in fullscreen mode be fixed? The bug has been reported by me and various others in the years past, and I believe it's there since one of Blur's later releases. It only happens when you last quit JJ2+ in fullscreen mode. The current workaround is to always start with the -menu flag, but that still exits fullscreen and somehow minimizes the window each time.
Another 'issue' I have is with the removal of the 70FPS limit in fullscreen. I don't know why or how, but for me vanilla JJ2 runs smoother in fullscreen than Plus does, which shows minor stuttering during movement. It's not a big deal or anything, but maybe make a .ini setting that allows players to choose a target framerate for (at least) fullscreen mode?
Perhaps I'm one of the few players that uses fullscreen most of the time, so I hope I'm not such a bother with these issues. :rolleyes:

The Beta was completely free.
From wiki: "Two of the versions were distributed along with some of Intel’s hardware (the result of an Epic-Intel deal), and one of them was a press release which surfaced publically around May 2004."
The Beta was included in some of Intel's hardware, so Intel PCs had JJ2 Beta installed.

My position on Tweedle is that someone should just code him/them up in AngelScript. If they do a good enough job, maybe it could be converted into JJ2+ code, but in the meantime there's nothing preventing people from writing their own Tweedle behaviors just as with any other sprite set.

Ha! Same here. There was this player called Nick, who made the exact same thing, but not in the psych level though, just a level for testing porpuses. In that battle, tweedle used his magnet animation while jumping, so hilarious.
EDIT: Also, i think that those cool animations (ledge grabbing, diagonal running, shooting up while in air etc.) were replaced with the lori animations. So, if it was possible to make the gunless fight, what about the TSF users?

That's because JCS runs Jazz2.exe, and you're looking for Jazz2+.exe or some similar name.
Now, there's nothing stopping you from making a shortcut with the target <code>C:\Games\Jazz2\Jazz2+.exe plusMenu.j2l</code> (adjust for your own computer's file system as necessary). Or you could configure your computer so you never have to use Save+Run for other people's levels again. (Though later versions of Windows have made the process harder, so you may need to download a program specifically for editing file type associations.)

I deleted JJ2 from my computer because it had waaay to many maps (Like 200-300).
Or you could've deleted the levels instead, or opened them in JCS and ticked hide in home cooked levels (by clicking tools then selecting level properties). I use a password cracker if I can't access the level. http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/6627/-/
I have way more than 200-300 levels. I don't mind at all. I have a lot of WIPs and like having a big archive.
I don't rely on HCL to open levels most of the time, as I find it one of the most tedious and unreliable ways to open levels. I only use it to see what levels are lying around, and I try to use "run..." for SP instead, which opens the level instantly without going into JJ2;
"C:\Games\Jazz2tsf\jazz2.exe sedec -turbo -spaz"
You need to know the directory of the folder, though. If you leave the difficulty and character as blank, it defaults to Jazz and medium. I renamed my Jazz2+.exe for convenience with JCS. I find the run program, by typing it in the start menu search bar.

You should really look at the plus readme. Ctrl + F is your friend (then type strongpowerups and you should find out specifically what it does).
"When enabled, pepper spray and electro-blaster will deal 2 hearts of damage when powered up. (Server must be running latest version of JJ2+.)"
If doesn't affect other powerups because it doesn't mention it.

May I suggest a "King of the Hill" gamemode? It's kinda simple: The team who can keep the control point captured for 3 minutes wins the game. The other team can capture it by standing on it for... let's say 10 seconds? There's a timer for each team. The control point can be anything. I don't know if it's just be, but I'd really love to see and play KOTH on JJ2.

I doubt they will use our ideas for anything. But still, i gotta post this...
If you can think of a way team treasure would actually work though, be my guest.
I indeed have an idea how it would work:
There are two vaults (bases?) for each team. The players from the team collect gems and all of their collected gems store in the base.
Example: Two teammates. Each one has like 30 gems. they both go to the vault, and store their gems, and the vault will have 60 gems (30+30=60 :p). i'm no programmer though, so maybe this ain't possible...

Save files were literally the first item in the issue tracker, but sorry to say, they're not fixed yet. There needs to be a way to get them to play nicely with AngelScript (and other engine changes, but that's the most obvious), and because there are no SP episodes that explicitly require JJ2+, it's never been a priority.
Jelly Jam: Ideas from the community certainly get used sometimes, but they have to hit that sweet spot where ease of implementation meets definite benefit. No guarantees on any specific suggestion.

Not really what I meant. A control point is a steady tile or more. You can move the gem all over you want and there cannot be a timer or something like that (Since in my idea of KOTH, each team has a timer).
Also, since I steal all the ideas from Team Fortress 2, there could be a "Robot Destruction" gamemode. Each team has a base, each base has robots. There are 3 kinds of robots: C robots, B robots and A robots. C robots drop less gems than B robots, B robots less gems than A robots. Each team's robots are passive props. To be able to destroy the B robots you have to destory the C robots first, same thing to A robots. All the gems are stored in the "reactor core". If a team can reach to the opposite team's reactor core, they can steal their stored gems. All they have to do is to reach the reactor tile (or prop, whatever) and wait there until they steal all the gems (stealing 5-10 gems per second). They have to run with the enemy reactor core to their reactor core, so they can store all the stolen gems. This gamemode is more like a mix of "Capture the Flag" and "Capture", but harder and more exciting. I'd draw something of how should a map look like, but my mouse is kinda broken. If you're curious how this gamemode looks, download Team Fortress 2 from Steam (It's a free game), go to "Play Multiplayer", "Show Beta Maps" and there is "Robot Destruction". Oh, and also for the robot prop could be used the robot boss animation(s). They're not standing still, but wandering.

The score IS the timer. It's just not specific on how much time represents one point.
King of the hill is virtually the exact same as domination with a single control point. The JJ2 control points are too small to stand on them, and they are usually in midair. I'd rather give options that make a real difference, like spawn timers for domination and ctf, gaining gems instantly after shooting a player, and making blinking players incapable of hitting others nor being able of picking up their own gems instantly (which is why treasure results in frustrating chain fights).

'Robot Destruction' the way you describe it rather looks like something that could be AngelScripted, instead of being hardcoded into Plus.
Of course I'm no scripter, but I'd imagine making a few custom robot enemies and defining rules on how and when they spawn are a proper base for such gamemodes.
Actually, I thought about some JJ2 'horde' mode a while ago. As in making waves of enemies spawn in Battle maps, which become harder and in greater numbers after each cleared wave, with a chance to resupply ammo/health inbetween them. Then there could be a boss wave once every 10 waves or so. Man, I should learn to use AngelScript sometime..

Do! And/or collaborate. There's a sufficient store of people who find scripting any particular effect or feature comparatively trivial, but a) haven't come up with the particular ideas you're looking for or b) don't have the energy to turn snippets of code into full levels. If you're specific enough about what you need, and don't want to put in the time to do it yourself, it shouldn't be hard to find someone to help.

I worked on that more than a year ago. At that moment I wanted to make it more like a new kind of jj2 assault level where a group of players could fight against normal jj2 enemies and also more fancy coded jj2 bosses. I also wanted to include a coin system where players could buy new type of guns, upgrades to the castle or other stuff out of the coins fallen from enemies. My current JCS project is an SP level using an original tileset (where only the level isn't fully finished yet). Perhaps I'll delay it and use it to experiment AS features to make it more interesting and visually appealing. :rolleyes:

Talking about the last part, do you mean something similar to "Mann VS Machine" in Team Fortress 2? MvM is a Co-op gamemode where you have to stop the robots from deploying the bomb. Of course, in TF2 this requires "mad" skills since the robots are like 3 times powerfuller than a player and there are tons of robots. There are several waves, depending on the map and the difficulty.
So, this could be done in JJ2 as well? There are so many gamemodes that could be just awesome on JJ2, but looks like nobody's got an initiative.

I would do it myself but:
-This year I've got an important exam, probably the most important so far. School in Romania is way more difficult than in some of the countries (I know this from various sources) and I have to study hard until this summer.
-I have no idea how to program. I'd like to learn though, since my current life wish is to become a programmer, even if I'm not THAT clever ._.
-I'm 14. No reason to detail here.
If anyone would like my idea, I am up to make a map but nothing more.

Well... I am kinda working on some AngelScripted Gamemodes, I am working on a Survival Gamemode, where you can craft, smelt, collect, mine and there will be certain waves of monsters coming... and a Squad (Team) Wars Gamemode. Where the custom gamemode is Death CTF, and you cannot pass to the other team's side, you can only pass when you have 20 coins, searching underground is very important in this gamemode because you can find certain useful items like the Health-o-meter which allows you to see everybody's health.
Items in Squad (Team) Wars:
1. Health-o-meter (already explained)
2. Camera (You can look through the level and see what others do)
3. Chatting Device (Everytime you find an item you tell in public chat you got that certain item, well this makes you only talk in team chat)
4. Lost Flag (You can get some points using a flag)
You will be able to get those items from chests. Also I can show you some images of the gamemodes.

Well i for once think the plus team should focus on the Race gamemode. When you join as a spectator and watch a race, there is a countdown 3,2,1 even though you aren't playing, that should be fixed. Also, when you join to a race after it's started, the countdown is useless, since the other players can get somewhere while there is a countdown on your screen.
If you find a way to fix these problems, AND you implement 'em in some future plus update, then i think there should be a custom gamemode: Knockout race. Simple, in every lap, the last player that gets to the warp is out.

AngelScript isn't that difficult, really. There's an extensive manual for it and you can look at existing levels to try and figure out how stuff works. Sure, there's a bit of a learning curve, but once you learn how to use it you can do a lot of cool stuff, including implementation of the ideas you've described in this thread.
I understand the sentiment of "I don't know how to program, so what is JJ2+ doing for me?". But on the other hand, the JJ2+ team only has limited time and motivation. Spending it on features that allow other people to implement whatever game mode or game feature they have in mind is in my opinion the best way to go, rather than (for example) focusing on adding a few specific game modes which would mean other features would never get added at all.

There's a huge difference between programming and drawing a tileset. No one will be up to give you a hand in making a custom gamemode map, even if he/she likes the idea.
Well, I don't see the big difference to be honest. The one is good at drawing, the other at coding, the other at level designing. And ofcourse someone would give you a hand if they have time, Foly once helped me with angel script a year ago, and now I'm much better at it. And I like the idea of for example KnockOut Race, and have already coded a bit of it :D . And also try to learn something about programming or drawing yourself, if that's what you need to make something, it's impossible to always rely on others, because they also have to do the things they need to do. But I haven't really seen you directly ask for help, just asking people to do it for you, which is a totally different thing, if you need help in programming, just ask for that, or look at the many scripts to learn from.

Thus things like giving out or requesting for any illegal software is viable for punishment. These versions of Jazz Jackrabbit may not be given out: JJ1, JJ2, JJ2: TSF, JJ3 Demo. These can be given out because they are shareware: JJ1 Demo, Holiday Hare '94, Holiday Hare '95, JJ2 Demo, and JJ2: TSF Demo. Furthermore behaving according to the law means no racism. Racism is not allowed according to US law (in which this site's server resides).
Hah, didn't ask for any of these! JJ1, JJ2, JJ2: TSF, etc... I clearly asked for JJ2 v1.00g, which isn't the regular JJ2. Perhaps suggesting adding this version on the list would fix the problem, so I can get banned already? ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I'd draw myself if I was talented..
The majority of artists don't start off that great, unless you're a savant, which is very rare. The sheer majority of "talent" is dedicated learning and practice. That dedicated learning is finding out is looking within the details of what makes art appealing, then trying it out yourself, which will take some practice.
Many artists have a thing where they keep removing old art out of self-consciousness, further adhering to the unrealistic illusion that the majority of people suddenly get talent. I'm tired of it.

You just don't want to see my awful sketches. Well, since I was a kid I wished to be an artist. I had a friend who was really really talented (I was like 6, he was like 9) and whenever he finished a drawing he used to give it to me. Now I just draw silly stuff on my notebooks whenever I am bored as school, you know, stuff such as Pokemon, monsters, awful attemps to draw Jazz's head, etc. Art is just not for me, even if I wish to draw nicely.

Well, I totally disagree with you on this. But if you really don't want to try it, then don't, and don't keep acting like "You won't help me anyway". Since we give you enough of idea's on how you could actually achieve what you want, by telling you that you can learn Angel Script easily, or telling you where to look for code snippets and examples etc. And it surely doesn't help to keep telling what you can't do, and therefore we should do instead. But it doesn't work that way, even if we like the idea(there is a possibility we don't) then we don't all have the time to do it for you, just ways to help you and give you hints. And I agree that probably not everyone is gifted and naturally able to program anything, no. Do you think all of the programmers of JJ2+ and angelscripters are geniusses or have the savant syndrome or anything? No, just try not being lazy and expecting too much from people, try it yourself or don't complain. Guess you know that yourself.

Judging someones art ability from a very young age isn't a good analogy. I can't judge someones ability from words. I've seen parents/teachers rave about how good and "talented" some teens art is, but more often than not, they are mediocre in my eyes. Does that mean I think they can't improve? No, as long they are able to assess what they can improve on.
My art as a 6 year old was typical to other 6 year olds. Around when I was 11 is when I started taking the leap foward, learning shading. When I became 16, I developed the habit of the importance of having references and drawing more angular, and took a large leap in skills again. Doodles without references don't mean much, those are usually from only what you can remember. I think a lot of people who are bad artists simply don't know how to apply good practices, and/or won't bother to practice their weak points, as it is the boring part. Mastering the basics is the most important part to becoming a good artist.

Since we're talking about art, despite the fact that I'm not good at drawing, I can make nice stuff out of clay. There's a JCS parameter for anti gravity.
"By setting "Var" to 1, the event will turn on and off a reverse gravity mode instead of a no-firing mode"
245=No Fire Zone |+|Area |No Fire|Zone |Set To:2|Var:1
You will need to edit your JCS.ini if you haven't. Just copy and paste that in the 245 column, then find no fire zone in JCS, and change var to 1 and set to as 2.
It's in the plus readme, though. Ctrl + F anti-g then you will find it. So yeah, no AS needed.

Nah, that's just sleeping time I waste. Also, I had enough years of being told how bad I am programming, I don't want this anymore. Since I was 8, I used to go to some free programming courses. The first 2-3 years went pretty well, I think. I used to work on Borland Pascal. I could easily do a program which asks you stuff or asks you for two variables and then it substracts them or stuff like that. When stuff became harder I couldn't keep up with my friends, and after 6 almost pointless years going there I finally gave up. The last 3 years I only went to see my friends and since they were free courses no one cared I wasn't doing anything. Pascal? I failed. HTML? Heck no... I ended up making some crappy Scratch games, and one of them got me two diplomas and a medal. It wasn't even a good game, I don't know how this even happened! It's still online if anyone's curious what am I talking about, but don't expect too much from it...: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/3298477/ Anyways, all these years when I tried to keep up with my pals' programming were wasted years. As always, I went full off-topic. Going to sleep, good night.

It's not that bad. It's not amazing but from you described it sounded like as if it would be terrible. I was at a relatively similar stage when I was 11 (and my art wasn't that much better when I was 14), but it's truly about the dedication, not age. Primpy, all people are saying that even if you don't understand AngelScript now, surely you'll be able to learn it if you just start trying things out with it. Which I think in general is true and might also be true for you.
If you're convinced that it won't work out for you, well, okay. I agree with the others that probably you'd at least be able to make simple scripts if you tried (especially if you were able to do simple stuff in Pascal), but maybe you think otherwise, that's up to you. Can we leave it at that (this also @ others)? No need to get into inane discussions about whether drawing is harder than programming here.

word which is considered to mean "gay person" (Which is ironical since she's a girl).
what
It's not that easy, you know. How do you expect dumb people like me to script something? That's the reason we need more gamemodes.
So, I stand by my position that there's not a substantial difference between someone making you a feature in C++ vs. someone making you the same feature in AngelScript. Depending on the feature in question, one will be <em>easier</em> than the other, but it's still someone else doing the coding. You state your misgivings that anyone would write AS code for you (though I don't see why the same misgivings don't apply to C++), and that's understandable, but I do reiterate that there are various examples of collaborations in the downloads section, and the AngelScript Requests & Help thread has <a href="http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showpost.php?p=483373&postcount=137">cases</a> of code being provided for specific requests.
What I think you have to understand here is that people--on this forum, and also elsewhere--are more inclined to lend advice or other help to someone who's already gotten started. If you have an idea for something, it helps if you show you've already done some of the work, and it's just this specific issue or this specific bug or whatever that you could use help with. But conversation in this thread has gotten pretty heated on both sides, and without at least waiting for things to calm down a bit, this may not be the place for you to get that help right now.
But you posted a screenshot showing that you downloaded AngelScript from its website! That's awesome! It didn't happen to be the correct thing to do, but that's a mistake I've definitely made myself (with a different framework) and it shows a very admirable willingness to give it a try, especially after your past negative experiences with programming. Good try.
As it happens, though, getting started with JJ2+'s AS implementation is much simpler than that, and takes only a text editor. For instance, try creating a file named "Castle1.j2as". Paste the following into the file:
void onLevelLoad() {
jjPalette.load("Damn1.j2t");
jjPalette.apply();
}
Then run the level (in JJ2+). Does the specific result look good? Not especially. But that tiny bit of structure, that single <code>onLevelLoad</code> declaration, is all you need to get some code running, followed by any number of further additions. No massive additional downloads or anything like that.
If this forum environment isn't working for you, I'd be happy to chat with you over Skype or some other IM client of your choice and talk you through getting started until you feel more comfortable with the language. Even if you don't end up an AS master--and I completely understand that different people find different subjects difficult, e.g. I would never want to try making my own music, but other people find it much easier than stuff that I personally have no problem with--just being able to write <em>some</em> code will make other people that much more willing to help you out with <em>specific</em> questions.
So if you'd be interested in chatting, let me know. I've got nothing scheduled today. But the reality, unfortunate or not, is that features that <em>can</em> be implemented in AS are less likely to be implemented directly in JJ2+ at this point, because that's in part why we added AS in the first place. (Gamemodes are admittedly somewhere in-between, because there's not currently a working framework for true custom gamemodes in AS, but you can come pretty close... stuff like Bank Robbery and Assassination only took JCS, after all!)
(@Jelly Jam: Would you mind taking further questions to the Requests & Help thread instead? This thread here is broad enough it's hard to accuse it of getting exactly "off-topic," but that thread is <em>devoted</em> to AS questions, and people will visit it (or not) with that idea already in mind, and besides, posting in it makes other people more likely to remember that it exists, leading to more discourse, etc.!)

Should I give it a shot, even if I am 14? For me, even Scratch is hard, and isn't even a serious programming language! >:(
What if I tell you I am just 11 and go here on the snippets page of JJ2+: Snippets (http://www.jazz2online.com/snippets/). And you can see I made some snippets, most of the code I made by myself, I just got a little bit of help from my brother.

So, I stand by my position that there's not a substantial difference between someone making you a feature in C++ vs. someone making you the same feature in AngelScript. Thanks for the offer! However, the next 3-4 weeks I'll be busy because they're the last school days of this semester (or half-year, I dont know how you call it in English) and I will be pretty much busy everyday, even on weekends. Add me on Skype (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/sendmessage.php?do=im&type=skype&u=25603) so whenever I feel like asking you a question about anything I will. If I get some free time, I'll attemp programming something, or I don't know, at least to know how AngelScript works. I'm still wondering what's the purpose of that "delete.me" file.

Then you must be some kind of genius, because as I said in my previous posts I was (awfully) programming when I was 11 too. Or you could also be lying, and that "little bit of help" from your brother could be a slightly larger help. Lying or not, good for you.

The actual contents of the delete.me file:
This file is only here to guarantee that unpackers don't skip creating the /lib directory.
That's pretty much it. The /lib directory comes (otherwise) empty because users are expected to build a new angelscript.lib file into it themselves, but it's important that it exist already when that happens, so a junk file is included just in case. But again, <em>you need absolutely nothing from that download.</em> Delete it. That's only for if you want to rebuild plus.dll, which you don't. All <em>you</em> need is JJ2+ and a text editor for .j2as files—preferably Notepad++.

I am not lying.. I just read about 100 pages of a book for programming in C++. I learned a lot from that. I really didn't know what I was doing in AngelScript on Jazz 2 before on reading that 100 pages of the book, I think the book has about 400 pages.

The only way to learn something is to shut up and do it, anyone can do anything, there is always someone quicker or better, who cares just do it, you cant learn chinese not doing it, and I heard 3 years doing it.
Most of the time people just make a random excuse to do nothing... And thats weird, you dont need an excuse to do nothing. Being surrounded by these assholes gives the illusion you cant either. You need to tosh these people out of your life, there useless, dont always trust yourself either, just do things a couple of times before getting sure if something is to hard/easy/boring, silence that stupid voice inside telling you that... And you notice after a couple of months doing that things will stick. The hardest part is to shut up and do it.

Snippets are not specially defined units of any kind, they're just the bare minimum amount of code needed to fulfill one function or another. Say you're looking at Snippet A:
void onPlayer(jjPLAYER@ play) {
doSomething(); //abstraction; obviously there is no built-in function with this name, so it'd have to be defined elsewhere in the file
}
and Snippet B:
void onPlayer(jjPLAYER@ play) {
doSomethingElse();
}
then you "add more than one snippet" by writing:
void onPlayer(jjPLAYER@ play) {
doSomething();
doSomethingElse();
}

Ok, I obviously made a mistake, but I don't know where did I go wrong. I just tried to add the "Fall Damage" and "Wall Jumping" snippets. Argh, I don't even know how to modify two scripts.

jjPLAYER@ p = jjLocalPlayers[0];
p.ammo[2] = 3;
if (p.keyJump == true) {
jumpKey = jumpKey+1;
} else {
jumpKey = 0;
}
if (jjMaskedPixel(p.xPos + (p.direction * 13), p.yPos) && p.keyJump == true && jumpKey < 3) {
p.ySpeed = -10;
p.direction = p.direction * (-1);
p.xSpeed = p.direction * 5;
// && p.ySpeed < 0
}
if (jjMaskedPixel(p.xPos + 13, p.yPos) && p.ySpeed > 0 && p.keyRight == true) {
p.ySpeed = 1;
p.alreadyDoubleJumped = false;
}
if (jjMaskedPixel(p.xPos - 13, p.yPos) && p.ySpeed > 0 && p.keyLeft == true) {
p.ySpeed = 1;
p.alreadyDoubleJumped = false;
}
int fallTimer = 0;
const double maxFallTime = 4;
void onMain() {
if (!jjMaskedPixel(p.xPos, p.yPos + 32) && p.ySpeed > 0) {
fallTimer++;
} else if (jjMaskedPixel(p.xPos, p.yPos + 32)) {
int repeats = (fallTimer / 70) / maxFallTime;
if (fallTimer >= maxFallTime) {
for (int i = 0; i < (fallTimer / 70) / maxFallTime; i++) {
p.health = p.health - 1;
if (p.health < 0) p.health = 0;
}
}
fallTimer = 0;
}
if (p.health == 0) {
fallTimer = 0;

}
AngelScript reminds me a little bit about LUA, but LUA was slightly easier, or at least on Roblox. Don't judge the Roblox players, it takes a lot of time to do a decent game and you need to know both modeling and programming...

One question: seeing as morphing into birds has been improved, would it be possible to also use some animations such as that of the standing bird (when you're not flying) and its corresponding idle frames?
On that note, as you already know, there are also unused animations for bees, Lori, or even Eva jumping when someone scores in CTF (and so on). I'm sure there are bigger priorities right now, but I'm just curious as to whether it would actually be possible to restore them to the way they were meant to be used.

You're right, a standing animation for Hip Hop would be a great thing, since it's kinda odd to see it flapping its wings at 1 cm away from the ground. I don't think Lori has more than one unused animation, but it's not that important and doesn't look really good. Unused animations for bees? Are you talking about the smaller bee which wasn't added in-game or there are some animations of the actual bee that weren't used? And yeah, jumping Eva would look nice in CTF. It's not nice to see her standing there bored...

There is a frame that's missing in the crouch animation for lori. Also when Lori crouches to give the other player a boost, her animation is a few tiles right, this was in the original TSF, however. So plus didn't break this.
And by unused animations for bees, I think he didn't mean those small ones. I think he meant the animations of big bees turning around.
Also, a general question: I swear I saw once Jazz shooting upwards while using the helicopter ears. How? :confused:
I once saw this too. Lemme explain.
If you sit down at the main menu for 10 seconds there's a demo of the game. In that demo, the animations are broken (but in the original version this is fine, did jj2+ break this?) and i remember seeing an animation of jazz shooting up while in the air as the replacement of the copter special move. If this isn't what you saw, please explain!
EDIT: Primpy it's also weird too see the bird flying left and right while above the ground 1cm. there's no animation of the bird walking, therefore, it would look kinda odd if it was on it's feet only if it stood perfectly STILL. So i think the bird flying while standing should be kept :p.

The Eva scoring animation got added to 5.0, though the missing Lori crouch frames are yet to be implemented. Those probably won't come until the next version of plus, but I'm not sure if the trivial ones will be fixed (like the swinging and the idling where she's supposed to pop out her gun)
No, I swear I saw Jazz using helicopter ears and shooting upwards with an animation, not with the normal one. I don't know, maybe I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure I saw that happening...
I've looked in Jazz Sprite Dynamite, both 1.23 TSF and found no sprites of Jazz using copter ears shooting upwards. There is an unused sprite of Jazz shooting upwards in midair without copter ears in 1.23, however.
So you'll have to show to prove me otherwise. "I swear I saw it!" doesn't suffice as an argument. Sometimes people see something that isn't actually there.
If you don't mean that, then it's either messed up sprites or mouse aim is on.

I'm not sure. It just looks like the FPS got lowered so it appears choppier. Theres also a small chance it'll go as fast as the one in JSD (which is hard to check since it's so rare). Her default idle animation also has a slower FPS. Though you can speed up her default idle animation by going to an edge.
But the one where she's meant to pop out a gun is broken for sure.
Would be nice if there was a better J2A viewer/editor than JSD, where you could also adjust the FPS. It would more easily show whether it's actual missing frames or just slowed down.
Also, what i said about the lori animation being a few tiles right, it's only one tile right.
Almost, but not quite. If it was completely one tile right, going beside a wall to the right would make her appear as if she's completely stuck inside a tile.

As I expected, it's just a mess of sprites. He's not coptering while shooting up. That first one is actually the shooting up while on vine sprite.
I can't believe you actually thought that. There is no copter ears displayed above his head nor actual ammo coming out (I know he's using copter ears, but like I said the sprites are bugged), and all other sprites displayed were incorrect, so what would make the first one correct?
I put the macros from 1.23 into my TSF. EDIT: It happens in vanilla TSF (and maybe in older versions of plus), but the sprites are displayed correctly in TSF plus (or 5.0, at least).

There's nothing wrong with macros[citation needed] other than incompatibility between JJ2 versions that contain different numbers of player animations, reasons for which I thought would be obvious. TSF was originally distributed with the same j2m files as 1.23 and it's nowhere near a recent discovery that they show wrong animations. Macros should be recorded and replayed in the same version of JJ2 to avoid experiencing problems brought up in the recent posts. There's nothing JJ2+ changed about macros. It would be possible for JJ2+ to implement compatibility between different versions of macros but it's of low priority.

Pretty good? The map is terrible, too much chat, chameleons suck, carrot grenades - are you kidding me?, the jumping is bad, there is fall damage and so on. It's terrible compared to JJ1 or JJ2.

I didn't say it was a good Jazz game, I said it was a pretty good GBA platformer. As in, for a GBA platformer, it's pretty fun. Apparently.
Anyway, I haven't played it(Well, maybe once a long time ago), so this is just based off of what I've heard.

For god's sake. I didn't say he's shooting up while coptering. I just said he uses that sprite WHILE coptering.

Which is pure coincidence, as the sprites don't correspond to the movements. TSF shows macros recorded in 1.23 with the wrong sprites, and this just happened to display while Jazz was coptering.
It's the sprite for shooting up while hanging on a vine, by the way. There's no copter ears in there. Nothing to see here really :)
I liked Jazz GBA, by the way. It's a fairly grating departure from Jazz's signature style and its story, but as a standalone game it's not bad. I found carrot grenades to be a lot of fun especially.

You didn't understand. I didn't say there's copter ears in that sprite, i just thought that was the sprite of jazz shooting up while falling. It can be found in the 1.23 library.

This sounds easy to misinterpret;
he USES the heliopter ears with the shoot up animation
And yes, I know the shooting up while falling sprites can be found in the 1.23 library, as I said that in an earlier post;
There is an unused sprite of Jazz shooting upwards in midair without copter ears in 1.23, however.
From what SE said, it appears the 5.0 animation fix was indirect (or Violet fixed it and no one noticed).
Anyway, lets move onto something else. There's nothing new to say about it anymore.

"How dare you" is non-content? It's a pretty accurate answer. This is the reason J2O needs a chatbox!
Anyway, what don't you find fascinating about this map? The map ambient looks great, the colors are matching and the tileset is done very well. Also, the flying shoes are something new I'm really curious about.

Uh? Do you mean this level is already done by you? "just realised" - How can you look at the picture of your level and not recognize that is your level? Anyway, maybe Violet is trying to "plusify" it or something like that?

Treylina posted a link to both the tileset and the specific level. You may have better results if you try running the level yourselves and see how it looks different from in that screenshot.

Due to low content of the current discussion and people constantly going off-topic I'm closing this thread until there's proper JJ2+ news to talk about.
For AngelScript questions (and only AngelScript questions), use this thread (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=19503). For other JJ2+-related questions, feel free to open a new one.
Well done, all!

JJ2+ version 5.0 is coming soon. I know we keep saying that, but the thing is, it gets a little more true every time! So I'm tentatively—tentatively!— reopening this thread and we'll all see what happens, shall we?
Here's a new baffling teaser screenshot for you to enjoy in the meantime:

You of course always hide something when hovering with the cursor over the picture. And it says Super Toaster.
EDIT: Also I smell something interesting about this pic. Maybe... ummm... Angelscript on Tileset?

Is the Super Toaster supposed to be an upgraded version of the upgraded Toaster (like an upgrade of an upgrade/like a Pokemon's mega evolution)? Also, what's up with the upgraded Freezer ammo in this pic? Is it related to the Super Toaster or just a coincidence that it was in its shooting range?

Unfortunate coincidence. I noticed after the picture was taken that the ammo was there and looked fairly similar to the toaster (thanks, sprite palette), but successive attempts to take screenshots in other areas didn't end up with such a perfect toaster spread, so eventually I gave up.

Well, it would've been ridiculous to shoot ice while shooting fire xP
Any other weapons have been changed in the next version?

Maybe Super Toaster = Upgraded Toaster + Upgraded Ice
Combined weapons :)

Oh damn, I never thought of mixing two weapons! That would be just damn awesome! Also, if that would be real, the Super Toaster would match perfectly with "Hell Freezes Over" level.
I think this can be done with AngelScript. I think.
