As a (slightly belated) gift to the community for Jazz’s 20th anniversary, our household composer DoubleGJ and his band have released a delicious small remix album: Ballistic Bunny.

It is a remix EP consisting of remixes of (you guessed it) the Ballistic Bunny planets from Jazz 1: Letni, Technoir, and Orbitus. With a bonus track, even!

(…) there’s 4 tracks. The EP includes an original composition “in the style of” – a song for a mockup of a planet, a robot assembly compound hidden on a highly unstable volcanic planet which I dubbed Lavalon.

Sorry because this is not related, but I have 2 questions:
1. I want to play JJ2 with friends via Hamachi. How can I do that? FAQ doesn’t help at all.

2. JJ franchise will never be back? Man, it just hurts me to think that my favorite childhood game is dead!

Love & Thunder on 4 Sep 2014 at 22:00

1. Use the local network TCP mode.

2. There’s always the chance of it coming back, but it’s on ice for now.

Anyway, as I said in the forum thread, this is a really good remix EP. :D

Yeah, the remix is awesome!
There’s always the chance of it coming back? That means it’s not permanently dead? :D

What happened to Epic Megagames (Or now, Epicgames)?

Roobar on 5 Sep 2014 at 18:14

This is hardly a remix. I can’t even recognize the tracks.

Primpy, nothing really big has happened to Epic for a while; it’s mostly just loads of little things, except for recently when Cliff Bleszinski(Creator of Jazz) retired from Epic and formed a new studio with Arjan Brussee(Lead programmer of both Jazz games) called Boss Key.

Ultimately, I like to think that it’s only a matter of time before Epic decide to bring Jazz back(Although I tend to be very optimistic about these things).

Primpy on 8 Sep 2014 at 20:02

I thought that another company bought the rights for Jazz Jackrabbit. Am I wrong?

And if those two have got a new studio, why don’t they just buy the rights for the game and create a new one, since I bet Epic doesn’t even remember about it?

How are you optimistic? It’s been over 10 years since Epic didn’t say anything about it. You’re one amazing person.

And why JJ Revival was taken down? Wasn’t it a fanmade game? Ahh, so many questions…

You’re wrong. The rights for Jazz Jackrabbit remain at Epic.

And if those two have got a new studio, why don’t they just buy the rights for the game and create a new one, since I bet Epic doesn’t even remember about it?

The rights are not for sale, and Epic remembers.

And why JJ Revival was taken down? Wasn’t it a fanmade game?

It’s illegal to make a game using the intellectual property without the owner’s consent. The “revival” project was taken down on Epic’s request, see here.

Primpy, about my optimism: As you said, Epic have been silent about the future of the franchise since the failure of Jazz Advanced, therefore, optimism(Unless that’s not what you meant; no offense, but your wording is a little confusing).

Primpy on 9 Sep 2014 at 10:04

So why doesn’t Epic sell the rights for it? That means they’re going to create another JJ game? Otherwise, I don’t understand why they don’t sell them.

I still don’t understand why was it taken down. As an example, there are TONS of Pokemon related games and none of them was taken down for copyright isusses.

And Robo, I still don’t know why you’re optimistic about another JJ game. Right now I feel like there’s never going to be another game. So disappointed.

DoubleGJ on 9 Sep 2014 at 10:21

So why doesn’t Epic sell the rights for it?

You’re talking about a property worth thousands of dollars. That’s a huge investment in something that doesn’t quite guarantee earning all that much back.

As an example, there are TONS of Pokemon related games and none of them was taken down for copyright isusses.

Nintendo is a Japanese developer, and the Japanese have a different copyright law than the US. It’s more permissive in general. Believe me when I say I’ve researched quite a lot on IP-related laws before beginning to release Two Games Joined songs.

Primpy on 9 Sep 2014 at 12:43

What do you have to do with Two Games Joined?

Also, what happened to JJ2+? No more updates?

Stijn on 9 Sep 2014 at 13:04

DoubleGJ = 2xGJ = 2 Games Joined = Two Games Joined

A JJ2+ update is coming soon™.

DoubleGJ on 9 Sep 2014 at 13:08

What do you have to do with Two Games Joined?

I’m the frontman, as the newspost states

Primpy on 9 Sep 2014 at 17:40

I sent to your Facebook page (Two Games Joined) an offer for advertising. However, Galek responded me. I apreciate that!

A JJ2+ update comming soon? How can you tell?

Sorry for the long comment spam, there should be a chat.

Love & Thunder on 9 Sep 2014 at 17:48

Primpy: I’m hopeful that Epic will talk to Boss Key at some point. It may not be for ten years or more, but it’ll probably be around when 90’s nostalgia becomes a bigger seller than ’80s nostalgia.

Primpy on 9 Sep 2014 at 18:04

So what are you saying is that Epic wait people to be more and more nostalgic and when their dreams of a new game are almost crushed, they will make another game?

Stijn on 9 Sep 2014 at 20:29

Really, no one knows. All you can do is hope.

I can tell a new JJ2+ update is coming because I know people are actively working on fixing bugs and adding new features. As for when it will be released, I don’t know.

Love & Thunder on 10 Sep 2014 at 09:07

Stijn’s right, I’m just being hopeful. And to be fair, I’m still holding out for an Earthworm Jim sequel.

Primpy on 10 Sep 2014 at 18:41

After this discussion I feel even less optimistic than before. I think we beat a record for the most comments on a post!

Stijn on 10 Sep 2014 at 20:03

Not quite, that would be this one, followed by this and this.

Primpy on 11 Sep 2014 at 07:56

Then we’re getting close!

DoubleGJ on 11 Sep 2014 at 12:24

Even if it’s not that much on-topic, it’s nice that there’s so much discussion under the newspost on something I had my part in :)
