Jazz Jackrabbit on iPhone?

A mysterious twitter message talks about an iPhone port of Jazz Jackrabbit:

Awesome (on NL Game Veterans day): Killzone’s Arjan Brussee talks enthusiastically about his iPhone port of Jazz Jackrabbit

What exactly this means we can only guess. Shadow and FQuist tried to get more out of this rebelalfons guy, but got no more information, so whether this really means a port of Jazz Jackrabbit to Apple’s mobilophonoconsole is in the works remains a matter of speculation.

On the one hand, a game so tied to Microsoft (Epic) and Sony (Guerilla) appearing on an Apple device seems unlikely… on the other hand stranger things have happened (like the Monkey Island remake being announced today). We’ve seen statements like this leading to nothing earlier (remember CliffyB’s “I’m talking about something with Noogy, but it’s superearly” from a few years back)? Anyway, either way it’s Jazz-related news, so there you go ;)

working on it…

I know someone who had this. No idea where or how they got it and such.

Basically, its openjazz run through and iphone PSP emulator.

Stijn on 2 Jun 2009 at 09:49

This isn’t about OpenJazz, this is about an “official” port (as opposed to emulation) of the game.

Meh. I wish it would be ported to the Xbox 360.

Schuldig.

W00t! I’d buy that within a minute of it being uploaded to the app store.

Also, for the record, the iPhone can’t run a PSP emulator, or especially a PSP emulator playing homebrew. ‘Tis impossible (or at the very least, no such emulator exists).

Right now I’m more interested in the totally-not-made-up Jazz Jackrabbit revival in 3D that the real CliffyB mentioned at E3.

FQuist on 3 Jun 2009 at 23:22

You mean the one in the interview in the current twitter link? because that seemed fake. Did CliffyB really mention anything?

Violet CLM on 3 Jun 2009 at 23:57

Well, this is fake.

But it has to be real! Did you see the promotional screenshot?

Though seriously, I wouldn’t support a 3D JJ3 unless it has marketability and offers something original in terms of gameplay. I can almost see CliffyB talking like that in an interview though.
